Abstract

The Gospel of salvation must be conveyed to all people so that they believe and accept Jesus as the only savior. To carry out this mission, a contextual way of theology is needed, including using the culture of the prospective recipient of the Gospel. Within the Toraja community in the province of South Sulawesi, some still adhere to the Aluk To Dolo belief. They have a mythology about creation and humanity's fall into sin, similar to similar stories in the Bible. This research wants to know whether this mythology can be a medium to preach the Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ to Aluk To Dolo adherents. The research method used is a literature study. The data is taken from various literature; mainly the research results on the mythology of Aluk To Dolo. The research results obtained from a comparison between the Aluk To Dolo mythology and the Bible story about the creation and fall of humans show that the human intermediary with God in the Aluk To Dolo mythology failed to save humans, but Jesus succeeded. Therefore, Jesus is the only savior for humanity. Everyone who believes in Jesus will return to God. Thus, the Aluk To Dolo mythology about the creation and fall of humans into sin can be an effective medium for preaching the Gospel of salvation to Aluk To Dolo adherents.

Abstract

The gotilon feast is an ancient tradition that has been observed both before and after the introduction of Christianity and has undergone a transformation in meaning after being incorporated into the church liturgy in the HKBP Manado. This research aims to analyze the gotilon feast in the context of the Toba Batak diaspora in Manado by examining how this practice is carried out in HKBP Manado as a space for an encounter between religious identity and Toba Batak cultural expression. Using a light qualitative-ethnographic approach, as well as Pierre Bourdieu's theoretical framework - specifically the concepts of habitus, field, and doxa; this research shows that this tradition is the result of symbolic practices that are continuously reproduced, not solely because of theological dogma, but as a result of the social and historical structures that shape it. Within the diasporic social field, the gotilon feast occupies a strategic position as a mechanism for maintaining collective identity. However, it also presents a tension between religious particularism and culture and the demands of multiculturalism within the church. As a spiritual and social glue, this practice makes an important contribution to the conceptualization of contextual theology, the sociology of religion, and the dynamics of Toba Batak diaspora traditional practices.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the church's involvement in the Tomohon International Flower Festival (TIFF) as an eco-theological action. TIFF 2022 is an annual festival organized by the Tomohon City Government to increase the ecological sensitivity of the church through nature conservation, flower preservation, and improving public welfare. Tomohon City is known as the city of flowers. Therefore, this festival is carried out by the government and supported by the church, and the community to make it a national and international tourist destination. TIFF strategies and impacts have been written about, but what is unique about the findings in this article is that none of the studies describe church involvement through ecotheological studies at TIFF. The use of digital religious practices such as social media or digital apps by churches can increase ecological awareness. This article uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews, and literature studies. The conclusion of the study is that TIFF 2022 is an appeal to the church to preserve, preserve and be responsible for this nature. The church responded well to TIFF's activities by actively participating in planting flowers both in the yard and in the garden. On the other hand, it needs attention from the younger generation and various parties to plant flowers as an effort to green local wisdom. The TIFF 2022 study uses various fields of contextual theological ecotheology and the discipline of sociology of religion. This research needs to be followed up in the study of environmental ethics, economics, eco-pastoral, environmental education with a broader context to help readers understand TIFF.
