Abstract

This study aimed to examine the process of teaching and learning English listening using English movies, identify the challenges encountered by both teachers and students, and determine whether movies can enhance students’ listening skills. This mixed-method research was conducted at Junior High School Tasikmalaya and involved 25 ninth-grade students and one English teacher. Data were collected through document analysis, classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews, and pretest-posttest assessments. The intervention was implemented over four weeks and consisted of three instructional meetings. The findings revealed that the teacher followed the Merdeka Curriculum format and delivered listening instruction in three structured stages: pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening. Students faced several challenges, including unfamiliar vocabulary, rapid speech, listening anxiety, limited contextual understanding, passive viewing, and minimal exposure to authentic English outside the classroom. The teacher also experienced difficulties related to students' varying proficiency levels, technical and equipment issues, material selection, classroom management, and institutional constraints. The quantitative results indicated a significant improvement in students’ listening skills, with the mean pretest score increasing from 74.24 to 85.00 in the posttest. A paired sample t-test confirmed that this improvement was statistically significant (p < 0.001), demonstrating the effectiveness of English movies in enhancing listening comprehension in the EFL classroom.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the quality of education and skills at PKBM Budi Ilmu in Balen District through training programs in literacy, numeracy, educational technology, and vocational skills. The implementation methods included needs assessment surveys, training sessions, workshops, and evaluations. The results indicate significant improvements in institutional management, learners’ literacy and numeracy skills, the use of technology in learning, and entrepreneurial competencies. Furthermore, the program received positive responses from the community. It is concluded that ongoing support from various stakeholders is essential to sustain and expand the impact of this program.

Abstract

Pelatihan Pojok Cerdas Remaja Bersinar merupakan program pemberdayaan masyarakat yang bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan warga Desa Kalianyar dalam mengelola potensi lokal secara kreatif dan berkelanjutan. Kegiatan ini berfokus pada pemanfaatan limbah ampas tahu sebagai pakan alternatif bagi ikan lele serta penggunaan galon bekas sebagai wadah sistem budidaya akuaponik skala kecil. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi persiapan kegiatan, pelaksanaan kegiatan, dan evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta, diiringi dengan keberhasilan mengolah ampas tahu menjadi pakan bernilai gizi tinggi yang mampu menekan biaya budidaya hingga 30%. Selain memberikan manfaat ekonomi, kegiatan ini juga berkontribusi dalam pengurangan limbah organik dan penguatan kerja sama antarwarga. Melalui kegiatan dengan manfaat ekonomi, sosial, dan lingkungan, Pelatihan Pojok Cerdas Remaja Bersinar membuktikan bahwa inovasi sederhana berbasis potensi lokal dapat memberikan dampak positif yang luas dan berkelanjutan bagi masyarakat.

Abstract

Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) is one of the most serious environmental impacts of mining activities, especially coal mining. It is characterized by low pH and high concentrations of heavy metals such as Fe, Mn, and Cr. This study aims to analyze a phytoremediation-based AMD management system using local plants. The research methods include a literature review and system modeling using the IDEF0 approach to illustrate the AMD management flow. A SWOT analysis was also conducted. The results show that phytoremediation can reduce heavy metal content by more than 90% and raise the pH of the acidic water from below 4 to near neutral (pH 6–7) within a certain period. From an industrial engineering perspective, this system is efficient because it utilizes local resources, reduces operational costs compared to chemical methods, and supports Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) based on circular economy principles. The integration of phytoremediation into the mining green supply chain provides added value in terms of environmental sustainability, regulatory compliance, and corporate image enhancement.

Abstract

This study explores the reflections of in-service teachers on the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in the Teacher Professional Education Program (TPEP). With the increasing demand for 21st-century teaching skills, PBL has emerged as an effective instructional method to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and student engagement. Using a qualitative approach, this research collected data from three in-service teachers through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and reflective journals. The findings highlight the benefits of PBL, including enhanced student motivation, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of learning materials. However, challenges such as time constraints, technical difficulties, and student adaptation to PBL were also identified. Teachers implemented solutions such as structured time management, technology integration, and active monitoring of student participation. Follow-up plans emphasize continuous reflection, evaluation, and adaptation to optimize the effectiveness of PBL in the classroom. The study underscores the importance of professional development in equipping teachers with the necessary skills to implement innovative teaching approaches. By addressing the challenges of PBL through strategic planning and ongoing support, teachers can enhance student learning outcomes and improve the overall teaching process.

Abstract

This study aims to explore students' perceptions of the integration of Case-Based Learning (CBL) and information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching speaking skills in the English for Business course. Using a qualitative approach, the study was conducted at STIE Semarang involving 25 undergraduate students taking the course. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and reflective journals to understand how students experience, interpret and evaluate the use of real business cases supported by digital technology in their speaking activities. The results showed that the majority of students perceived the ICT-based CBL approach as an interesting, contextualized method that helped improve their confidence and communicative skills. In addition, the use of ICT was considered to facilitate collaboration, provide authentic materials, and enable more flexible learning. However, challenges were also found, such as limited digital literacy and unequal participation in group work. The study concludes that the integration of CBL and ICT can create a dynamic and contextualized ESP learning environment that supports language development and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini membahas pengembangan dan implementasi media pembelajaran berupa miniatur kincir air untuk mengajarkan konsep energi terbarukan kepada siswa tingkat SD. Pengabdian dilakukan dengan metode pendampingan di SDN Bintoro 01, Kecamatan Patrang, Jember, dan melibatkan siswa kelas IV. Hasil Pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan miniatur kincir air meningkatkan pemahaman siswa terhadap konsep energi terbarukan, terlihat dari interaksi aktif dan kemampuan siswa dalam menguraikan kembali konsep yang telah dipelajari. Metode yang dilakukan yaitu berupa pendampingan pembuatan media miniatur kincir air bersama wali kelas di sekolah. Hasil dari pengabdian ini yaitu, media pembelajaran ini efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan praktis siswa, serta memberikan dampak positif pada metode pengajaran di sekolah. Setelah mendapatkan hasil kegiatan maka akan dilakukan evaluasi pada siswa melalui kegiatan tanya jawab. Adapun luaran dari kegiatan ini yaitu media pembelajaran miniatur kincir air, Lembar Kerja Pesesrta Didik (LKPD), buklet mengenai fungsi bagian kincir air, video kegiatan, dan pembuatan artikel nasional.

Abstract

Discourse markers provide writers with signaling devices to connect ideas and guide readers in grasping the connection of ideas in the texts. An introductory section of a journal article represents a unique text which should be written with clear and interconnected arguments. This paper aims to reveal how discourse markers play vital roles in realizing the development of the arguments in this knotty text.  To achieve this, introductory sections of articles published in a nationally accredited journal were examined. Using Fraser's (2009) functional classes of discourse markers, 22 introduction sections were analyzed employing text analysis to determine the usage of these markers. It was found that despite employing all types of discourse markers, not all of them were applied appropriately. Their uses may not be in line with their functional classification. Among others, there are three functional classes of discourse markers proposed by Fraser (2009), they are contrastive markers, elaborative markers, and inferential markers. Elaborative markers were the most used type among the different types, followed by contrastive and inferential markers. This implies that authors tended to develop ideas more often, whereas contrastive and inferential markers were used less frequently but were crucial for indicating differences and making conclusions within the texts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: Bentuk-Bentuk Interferensi Morfologi Bahasa Madura terhadap Percakapan Bahasa Arab Santri Syu’bah al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyah (SLA) daerah Lubangsa Putri Pondok Pesantren Annuqayah Guluk-guluk Sumenep Madura. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut peneliti menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang dilakukan adalah: Observasi, Wawancara, Rekam Audio, dan Dokumentasi. Sedangkan metode analisis data ini menggunakan metode reduksi data, penyajian data dan menarik kesimpulan pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada tiga jenis interferensi morfologi: yang berupa; Bahasa Arab yang diArabkan, Pemajemukan dan penghilangan Reduplikasi. Faktor yang berkontribusi pada interferensi morfologi ini terjadi seorang penutur dalam membentuk suatu bahasa menyerap afiks-afiks bahasa lain, baik itu bahasa daerah maupun bahasa asing atau dari bahasa ibunya.
