Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teks acak sebagai variasi pengajaran membaca dan juga melihat perbedaan antara siswa yang tidak diajar dengan menggunakan teks acak. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen. Peneliti menggunakan purposive sampling dalam menentukan sampel di mana kelas-kelas yang diajar oleh guru yang sama sebagai pertimbangan. Dari sini, X1 digunakan sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan X2 digunakan sebagai kelompok kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes pemahaman bacaan yang terdiri dari 20 item. Tes awal diberikan kepada kedua kelompok sebelum perawatan dan tes akhir diberikan setelah perawatan. Namun, perawatan hanya diberikan kepada kelompok eksperimen sedangkan kelompok kontrol diperlakukan dengan menggunakan cara yang sama seperti yang diajarkan guru mereka. Proses analisis data dilakukan melalui SPSS untuk menghindari kesalahan manusia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teks acak berpengaruh terhadap pemahaman bacaan siswa. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil uji-t dimana t-diperoleh lebih besar dari t-tabel (8,774>1,711) atau nilai sig. lebih kecil dari alpha (0,000 < 0,05). Kemudian, kelompok eksperimen, yang menerima perlakuan teks acak, memiliki pemahaman bacaan yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol juga dibuktikan dengan hasil uji-t (3,158>1,711) dan skor rata-rata juga lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol (61,8> 50,8). Temuan penelitian ini memberikan bukti bahwa teks acak dapat menjadi alat yang berharga untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan. Hasil penelitian ini memiliki implikasi yang signifikan bagi para pendidik yang mencari cara inovatif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan.

Abstract

Teori Multiple Intelligences terdiri dari delapan kecerdasan dan menyimpulkan semua aspek manusia. Setiap individu memiliki tingkat yang berbeda dari delapan kecerdasan ini, namun kedelapan kecerdasan ini mendukung perkembangan seseorang secara keseluruhan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis kecerdasan majemuk yang dominan pada mahasiswa pendidikan bahasa inggris dan bagaimana area kecerdasan dominan mahasiswa mempengaruhi proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris mereka. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dan dilakukan di Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Universitas Islam Negeri Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester sembilan jurusan Bahasa Inggris. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 86 mahasiswa jurusan pendidikan bahasa Inggris. Inggris. Kuesioner terdiri dari 80 butir pertanyaan, dan masing-masing kecerdasan terdiri dari sepuluh pertanyaan. Kuesioner didistribusikan melalui Google Forms. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris memiliki preferensi yang kuat terhadap kegiatan yang selaras dengan kecerdasan linguistik, dengan persentase tertinggi sebesar 37,29%. Meskipun siswa dengan kecerdasan linguistik tinggi umumnya pandai dalam kemampuan berbahasa, durasi studi mereka tidak hanya ditentukan oleh kecerdasan yang mereka miliki. Beberapa mahasiswa membutuhkan waktu 5 tahun 9 bulan untuk lulus karena berbagai aspek, seperti gaya belajar yang tidak efektif, motivasi yang rendah, kurangnya minat terhadap mata kuliah, kendala ekonomi, dan tuntutan non-akademik. Dengan demikian, kesuksesan akademik dan durasi studi merupakan hasil dari interaksi yang kompleks antara kecerdasan individu dan berbagai pengaruh.

Abstract

The vocabulary mastery of English students at the 2nd grade of SMP N 1 Harau was often constrained by the problem of the lack of students’ ability to remember vocabulary. Students had little vocabulary and they thought English was difficult to learn. The researcher tries to offer a strategy for teaching vocabulary by using "observe and remember" games.This research was conducted to know whether there was an effect of using the observe and remember game as a strategy in teaching vocabulary to improve students' vocabulary mastery. The research used a quantitative approach with a research design used a quasi-experimental. In this study, the researcher used 2 classes as the sample class, which consisted of the experimental class and the control class. The results showed that there was a significant effect of using the observe and remember game in mastering vocabulary. The researcher found the mean score of the post-test was 68,00. It was higher than the pre-test was 34,06 and obtained that the t-calculatedwas 14,46 bigger than the t-table was 2.042. It means that the Ha was accepted. In addition, there was a significant difference between the students who were taught by using the observe and remember game (68,00) and the students who were taught without using the observe and remember game (51,58). The observe and remember game was effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery in the 2nd grade students of SMP N 1 Harau.

Abstract

This research is triggered by students' speaking performance problems. The first problem is related to the fact the srudents still cannot  speak fluently and accurately. Secondly, students still have low confidence in practicing speaking skills. Thirdly, students did not have an English mastery strategy. This study aimes as finding do not significant effect of the round robin technique to improve students' speaking performance in terms of their fluency and accuracy in practicing interpersonal dialogue. This research was an experimental research. In collecting data researcher used pretest-posttest control control  design. The  experimental group was VIII.A (23 students ) and control group that was VIII.B (23 Students). The sample was selected by using total sampling technique. The data was got through pre-test and post-test to experimental and control groups. The research findings indicates that,the result of post-test in experimental class has t-obtained (59.25) was higher than t-table (1.6802) with degree of freedom (df) = 0.05. Thus, the alternative hypothesis (ha) was accepted which means that there was significant effect of using Round Robin Technique toward students speaking performance. Thus, it can be concluded that the intire hypothesis was accepted. It was proved that Round Robin Technique could help students in improving and enggaging their speaking and Round Robin Technique is recomended to be lesed by english lesson in teaching speaking. Abstrak Latar belakang penelitian ini dipicu oleh masalah kinerja berbicara siswa. Masalah pertama adalah siswa tidak dapat berbicara  dengan lancar  , kedua  siswa masih memiliki kepercayaan yang  rendah dalam melatih kemampuan berbicara, yang ketiga siswa tidak memiliki strategi penguasaan bahasa inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pengaruh yang signifikan dari teknik Round Robin untuk meningkatkan kinerja berbicara siswa dalam kefasihan dan ketepatan mereka dalam mempraktikan dialog interpersonal. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian eksperimen. Dalam pengumpulan data peneliti menggunakan pretest-posttest control design. Terdapat kelompok eksperimen VIII.A (23 siswa) dan kelompok kontrol yaitu VIII.B (23 siswa). Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Data diperoleh melalui pre-test dan post-test pada kelompok eksperimen dan control. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari nilai pre-test dan post-test kelas eksperimen, t-hitung (59,25) lebih besar dari t-tabel (1,6802) dengan derajat kebebasan (df) = 0,05. Oleh karena itu, hipotesis alternatif (ha) diterima yang berarti bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari Teknik Round Robin terhadap kinerja berbicara siswa. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa hipotesis inti diterima. Terbukti bahwa Teknik Round Robin dapat membantu siswa meningkatkan dan melibatkan berbicara mereka dan Teknik Round Robin lebih baik daripada Teknik konvensional.

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to describe the implementation of discovery learning in English language learning at SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. Several problems were found that were not consistent in following the steps of discovery learning. There are even discovery learning steps that are missed in practice, this is due to the limited availability of time for learning. The aim of this research is to analyze how discovery learning is implemented in English language learning in first grade at SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. The research method uses qualitative descriptive research with the research question how to apply discovery learning in English language learning in first grade at SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. The data collection process used interview techniques and checklist observations with informants in the form of students and English teachers at SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. The findings from this research are that teachers have implemented discovery learning in teaching English. such as: stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization. Although it was still found that several steps were not consistently implemented by teachers in several meetings. However, this does not affect the implementation of discovery learning steps in English at SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. Teachers should guide students to identify historical recounts and create temporary hypotheses. Meanwhile, researchers found that teachers directly directed students to look for information regarding the historical recount. The conclusion is that by implementing discovery learning used by teachers, they are able to increase good grades and students become active in the learning process. Abstrak Tujuan dari artikel untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi dari discovery learning dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris di SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. Beberapa persoalan ditemukan bahwa belum konsisten dalam mengikuti langkah dari discovery learning. Bahkan ada langkah discovery learning yang terlewatkan dalam prakteknya, ini disebabkan ketersediaan waktu yang terbatas dalam pembelajaran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis bagaimana pengimplementasian discovery learning dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggis di kelas satu di SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. Metode penelitian yang gunakan deskriptif kualitatif dengan pertanyaan penelitian bagaimana penerapan discovery learning dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris di kelas satu di SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. Proses pengumpulan data menggunakan teknis wawancara dan observasi checklist dengan informan berupa siswa dan guru bahasa Inggris SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. Temuan dari penelitian ini bahwa guru telah mengimplementasikan discovery learning dalam mengajar bahasa inggris. seperti: stimulation, problem statment, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization. Meskipun masih ada yang ditemukan beberapa langkah yang kurang konsisten dilaksanakan oleh guru di beberapa pertemuan. Namun hal ini tidak mempengaruhi dalam mengimplementasikan langkah-langkah discovery learning dalam bahasa inggris di SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. Seharusnya guru membimbing siswa untuk mengidenifikasi historycal recount dan membuat hipotesis sementara. Sedangkan peneliti menemukan guru langsung mengarahkan siswa untuk mencari informasi mengenai historycal recount tersebut. Kesimpulan, bahwa dengan pengimpelementasian discovery learning yang digunakan guru mampu meningkatkan nilai yang bagus dan siswa menjadi aktif dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

This study explores the effect of the Quantum Learning method on vocabulary mastery among fifth-grade students at SDN 03 Pakan Labuah. The research used a quasi-experimental design, where an experimental group taught using Quantum Learning and a control group receiving traditional teaching methods. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests measuring students' vocabulary mastery. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the experimental group's vocabulary scores (p-value = 0.000), suggesting that the Quantum Learning method had a positive impact on vocabulary acquisition. However, no significant difference was found between the experimental and control groups when comparing overall vocabulary mastery scores (p-value = 0.242). Despite this, the experimental group outperformed the control group in post-test results, further supporting the effectiveness of the Quantum Learning method in enhancing vocabulary mastery. This study contributes to the growing body of research on innovative teaching methodologies, offering valuable insights into the application of Quantum Learning in language education. Future research should focus on exploring long-term effects and the role of contextual factors in the method's effectiveness.

Abstract

          This study aims to examine the effect of using authentic materials on the listening skills of tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Kamang Magek. The research was motivated by students’ difficulty in understanding spoken English due to limited exposure to the language used in real-life contexts. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two groups: an experimental class taught using authentic materials and a control class taught using conventional methods. Each group consisted of 27 students and underwent four instructional meetings. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, then analyzed using SPSS with the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The results revealed that the use of authentic materials significantly improved students' listening skills. This was evident from the higher post-test scores of the experimental group compared to the control group. The findings suggest that authentic materials not only enhance listening comprehension but also expose learners to real-life English usage, including accent, intonation, and contextual meaning. It is therefore recommended that teachers incorporate authentic materials into their teaching to better prepare students for real-world communication.

Abstract

        Many students in SMAN 8 Mandau faced difficulties in reading comprehension, particularly in identifying main ideas, locating specific information, and making inferences. Conventional teacher-centered methods, which relied heavily on explanation, limited student engagement and comprehension. To address this issue, this study investigated the effectiveness of the character quotes strategy in enhancing reading comprehension of narrative texts. A true-experimental design was employed with 11th-grade students (n = 395) across 11 classes. The experimental group received instruction using the character quotes strategy, while the control group was taught conventionally. A multiple-choice reading comprehension test served as the research instrument, and non-parametric tests (Wilcoxon Signed-Rank and Mann–Whitney U) were applied due to the data distribution. The findings revealed significant differences between the groups (Sig. [2-tailed] = 0.000 < 0.05), with the experimental group achieving higher post-test scores. These results suggest that integrating the character quotes strategy into reading instruction can significantly improve comprehension and foster greater learner engagement. The study highlights the pedagogical value of interactive strategies in EFL classrooms and provides implications for enhancing reading instruction in similar contexts.

Abstract

The research was conducted because, the researcher is interested in seeing how effectiveness of three step interview technique on students peaking skill during speaking learning. The method in this research is descriptive quantitative research. The data obtained from the results of documentation and interviews with a teacher who used three step interview technique in teaching speaking. The research used saturated sampling because all populations is sampled. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that Three-Step Interview technique was effective used when teaching speaking. This can be seen from the result of the researcher interview with a teacher who used three step interview and supported by an average students result during learning speaking which reacjed 77,27 %. In other word, the effevtiveness of three step intervoew technique was in effective.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan story face terhadap pemahaman siswa dalam membaca teks narrative di kelas 9 MTs Muhammadiyah Padang Panjang. Ada beberapa masalah pemahaman bacaan siswa yang peneliti temukan selama penelitian pendahuluan. Pertama, beberapa siswa tidak mampu memahami teks yang baru saja mereka baca. Tampaknya mereka dapat membacanya, tetapi mereka tidak dapat memahaminya. Kedua, kosa kata siswa tampaknya menjadi masalah. Mereka tidak dapat menjawab pertanyaan karena mereka tidak tahu harus berkata apa. Salah satu strategi membaca teks naratif yang baik adalah dengan menggunakan story face. Story face membantu siswa untuk menemukan ide utama, karakter utama, masalah, peristiwa, dan solusi dalam setiap cerita yang dibaca siswa. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian eksperimental. Sampel penelitian ini adalah IX B yang dipilih dengan menggunakan sampel purposive. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes yang diberikan sebagai pre-test dan post-test. Tes terdiri dari 20 item dan merupakan tes pilihan ganda. Selanjutnya hipotesis penelitian ini diuji dengan menggunakan uji-t yang diukur dengan menggunakan SPSS 20. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari wajah cerita terhadap pemahaman siswa dalam membaca teks naratif. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil analisis statistik dengan menggunakan uji-t sampel berpasangan dimana diperoleh t-hitung sebesar 8,376. Sedangkan t-tabel untuk df (N-2) 17 adalah 1,73. Artinya 8,376 > 1,73. Artinya ada pengaruh yang signifikan penggunaan story face terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa dalam membaca teks narrative.
