Abstract

Creatinine and urea are metabolic waste substances excreted by the kidneys. Kidneys excrete metabolic waste substances. Renal dysfunction is associated with the increased level of creatinine and urea in the blood. The ethanolic extract of avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) contains flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and steroids which act as antioxidants and antihypertensive. It is known to reduce creatinine and urea levels in the blood. The animal model was divided into five groups: normal control, negative control (CMC - Na 0.5 %), and avocado leaves ethanolic extract group with doses of 75, 150, and 250 mg/kg BW rats. All groups except the normal control group were induced by oral administration of NaCl solution 2 % and prednisone suspension 1.5 mg/kg BW rats for 21 days and following treatment by oral administration for 7 days based on its group. Flavonoid compounds of avocado leave ethanolic extract identified as 5,7-di-OH-dihydroflavonol. Results show Kruskal - Wallis test between groups (p < 0.05) is significantly different. Concluded that administration of avocado leaves ethanol extract at doses of 75, 150, and 250 mg/kg BW rats might reduce creatinine levels, while avocado leaves ethanol extract at a dose of 250 mg/kg BW rats could reduce urea levels.

Abstract

Hypertension impacts the quantity of free radicals within the body. This study aimed to investigate the effect of antihypertension based on free radical levels in the predni-sone-induced rats, focusing on evaluating specific anti-hypertensive fraction of avoca-do leaves. The study's methods conducting GC-MS, anti-hypertensive, and assessing malondialdehyde levels and catalase enzyme. Systolic blood pressure measurements indicated that the positive control (131 ± 3 mmHg) and ethyl acetate fraction (136 ± 4 mmHg) were statistically similar, significantly different from the negative control group. Diastolic blood pressure measurements showed a blood pressure decreasing in posi-tive control (105 ± 7) that similar statistically with ethyl acetate fraction (104 ± 6), and significantly difference with negative control group. Malondialdehyde levels were nota-bly elevated in both the positive control (37.79 ± 5.47) and ethyl acetate fraction (38.01 ± 5.47) compared to the negative control (-9.07 ± 10.10), indicating increased free rad-ical. Catalase activity demonstrated significant differences, with the positive control (44.06 ± 5.44) and ethyl acetate fraction (44.05 ± 5.45) showing similar levels, both substantially higher than the negative control (13.90 ± 21.50). In summary, this study indentificates several flavonoid compounds that promising anti-hypertension effect from ethyl acetate fraction of avocado leaves extract.

Abstract

Free radicals can cause various diseases in the body if not treated immediately. Large levels of free radicals may trigger damage to normally functioning tissues, lipid layers, blood vessels, DNA synthesis disturbances, and even destruction of cells. The objective is to evaluate the antioxidants potential of dayak onion extract and fractions. FTIR spectrophotometers, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and an antioxidants multimode reader are some of the research methods. The outcomes of this research are identifying plants that showed the dayak onion extract of the species Eleutherine Americana Merr. It contains compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. In addition, the components found in the extract, water fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and n-hexane fraction are octadecanoic acid 298 m/z, 9-octadecanoic acid 282 m/z, undecanoic acid 214 m/z, hexadecanoic acid 368 m/z, and nonadecanoic acid 326 m/z. Therefore, the antioxidants test using the DPPH method showed that the best IC50 value is for ethyl acetate with IC50 20.56 ppm.

Abstract

This study examines the theme of love and loss in Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights through a psychoanalytic and Gothic perspective. The novel portrays an extreme emotional relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, in which love functions not merely as a romantic experience but as a psychological force that shapes identity, trauma, and emotional destruction. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method supported by thematic analysis to explore the construction of love, the causes of loss, and their psychological consequences for the characters. The data were collected through close reading of dialogues, narrative descriptions, and character interactions. The findings reveal that love in the novel is formed through childhood emotional bonding and identity fusion, while loss is generated by rigid social class structures, Catherine’s decision to marry Edgar Linton, and her death, which leads Heathcliff into a state of melancholia. This unresolved loss results in obsession, psychological suffering, and acts of revenge. Furthermore, Gothic elements reinforce the depiction of love that transcends death through spiritual and supernatural dimensions. The study concludes that Brontë represents love as an existential and destructive force, in which love and loss are inseparably intertwined and function as the central emotional conflict of the novel.
