Abstract

ARTICLE HIGLIGHTS- Calcium nitrate is utilized to enhance the growth and chlorophyll quality of Arthrospira platensis Gomont, aiming to maximize its potential as a biotransducer molecule.- Biomass productivity was monitored every three days during a 15-day cultivation period, with specific attention to biomass accumulation and specific growth rates during the stationary phase.- Chlorophyll concentrations (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll) were measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at wavelengths of 648 nm and 664 nm.- Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was performed on chlorophyll extracts to assess molecular binding capacity, reinforcing Arthrospira platensis Gomont’s potential as a biotransducer.- A concentration of 4.5 g/L of calcium nitrate, in combination with 35 ppt salinity, was found to be optimal for enhancing chlorophyll production during cultivation.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study is to investigate the potential of calcium nitrate as a specific nutrient capable of enhancing the chlorophyll content and optimizating the biotransducer characterization in Arthrospira platensis Gomont. The experimental design employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with Two Factors, consisting of 12 treatments and 3 replications. Each research group was conditioned with varying salinity levels: 15 ppt (S15), 25 ppt (S25), and 35 ppt (S35). In the treatment groups, calcium nitrate was added at different concentrations: 2.5 g/L (P1), 3.5 g/L (P2), and 4.5 g/L (P3). Biomass accumulation and specific growth rate were monitored and data were collected throughout the experiment. At the end of the treatment period, chlorophyll was extracted and its concentration was measured using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry and FTIR analysis. The results indicated that the addition of calcium nitrate 4.5 g/L combined with 35 ppt salinity increased the average biomass productivity over 15 days by 5.1 g/L, with a specific growth rate in the stationary phase of 0.12 per day. Supplementation of calcium nitrate 4.5 g/L in 35 ppt salinity was found to increase total chlorophyll concentration to 70.15 μg/mL, further supporting its potential as a supplementary nutrient to enhance the biotransducer properties with five key functional groups for the stability and binding affinity of analyte molecules in SPR application.

Abstract

Efforts to prevent stunting at the village level require contextual and innovative strategies, particularly by involving community empowerment in improving children's nutritional quality. This community service program was implemented in Tanjung Seumantoh Village, Karang Baru Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang Regency, in response to the high percentage of families at risk of stunting (19.96%) and the low consumption of nutritious food caused by limited nutritional knowledge, high milk prices, and cases of lactose intolerance. The main objectives of this program were: (1) to enhance PKK mothers’ knowledge of balanced nutrition and the importance of adequate nutrient intake in preventing stunting, (2) to develop their skills in producing yogurt fortified with mung bean flour as a nutritious food product, and (3) to encourage the utilization of local food sources at the household level to support children's growth and development. The methods included an initial community assessment, nutrition education sessions, yogurt production training, post-activity evaluation through questionnaires, and follow-up mentoring. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with 84% of respondents demonstrating improved understanding of the nutritional benefits of mung beans as a fortifying ingredient in milk-based products. Additionally, a portion of respondents showed greater awareness of the relationship between child nutrition and stunting prevention (scale 5; 4.52±0.51), and most participants agreed that they were able to independently follow the steps of milk processing after the training (scale 4; 4.12±0.83). Furthermore, household-level food diversification increased, and 52% of participants were motivated to continue producing fortified yogurt independently. These findings indicate that fortifying UHT milk with mung bean flour through the active involvement of PKK mothers can serve as an effective, sustainable, and community-based strategy for stunting prevention while simultaneously contributing to family economic empowerment.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion or action. This condition remains a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality and is closely associated with various metabolic complications and cancer risk. This study aimed to identify potential molecular targets and hormonal regulatory mechanisms involved in diabetes management. A systematic review was conducted by searching indexed scientific articles in databases such as ScienceDirect and Google Scholar using the keywords “diabetes,” “molecular targets,” “insulin sensitivity,” and “hormonal regulation.” The analysis identified six major molecular mechanisms contributing to improved insulin action and glucose homeostasis, involving targets such as human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP), ?-glucosidase, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2), glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) translocation, RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), and key enzymatic pathways associated with glucose metabolism. The development of therapeutic approaches directed toward these pathways could significantly enhance diabetes control, improve insulin sensitivity, and prevent long-term complications.
