Abstract

This study examined the relationships among teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), professional competence, students’ 21st-century skills, and career interest in automotive vocational education.  Using a quantitative explanatory survey design, data were collected from 174 students enrolled in nine vocational schools in Indonesia. The proposed model was tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to evaluate direct and indirect relationships among the variables. The findings revealed that both TPACK (β = 0.43, p < 0.001) and teachers’ professional competence (β = 0.35, p < 0.001) significantly enhanced students’ 21st-century skills. However, neither TPACK (β = 0.06, p = 0.47) nor professional competence (β = 0.08, p = 0.34) had a significant direct effect on students’ career interest. In contrast, 21st-century skills exerted a strong positive influence on career interest (β = 0.48, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis further demonstrated that 21st-century skills serve as a significant intermediary mechanism linking teacher competence to students’ career aspirations. The results suggest that teacher competence contributes to career development primarily through fostering transferable competencies such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and digital literacy. The study’s novelty lies in integrating TPACK, teachers’ professional competence, 21st-century skills, and Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) into a unified explanatory model. Unlike previous studies that examined these variables separately, this research identifies 21st-century skills as the key pathway through which teacher competence influences career interest. The findings offer practical implications for vocational education by highlighting the importance of strengthening teacher competence, technology-integrated pedagogy, and the systematic integration of 21st-century skills into vocational curricula to better prepare students for future workforce demands.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and model best practices for partnerships between schools and the Business and Industry (DUDI) in improving graduate competencies at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Salam, Magelang. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that the partnership is implemented systematically and integratedly through curriculum synchronization, industry involvement in competency assessment, implementation of industrial work practices (prakerin), on-the-job training (OJT) for teachers, graduate recruitment, and funding and facility support. The findings indicate that the effectiveness of the partnership is not determined by the number of programs, but rather by the level of integration between planning, implementation, evaluation, and graduate transition to the workforce. Curriculum synchronization increases the relevance of learning, while industry involvement in evaluation strengthens the validity of competencies. Experiential learning through prakerin and OJT contributes significantly to strengthening technical skills and work attitudes. This study produces an integrative partnership model that connects the curriculum, industry-based learning, and graduate absorption pathways, so that it can serve as a reference in the development of more relevant and sustainable vocational education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Islamic culture-based character education management in addressing the moral crisis among students at SDIT Alam Nurul Islam in Yogyakarta. This moral crisis, characterized by a decline in discipline, responsibility, and manners, poses a major challenge in elementary education. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects include the school principal, teachers, educational staff, students, and parents, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Data analysis utilizes an interactive model comprising data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research findings indicate that: (1) character education planning is conducted integrally based on the values of the Qur’an and Sunnah; (2) organization is carried out collaboratively through a clear structure and a dual-teacher system; (3) the implementation of character education is conducted through religious habit formation and experiential learning; (4) monitoring is conducted through authentic behavior-based evaluation; and (5) success is influenced by synergy between schools and parents, while obstacles stem from the family environment and digital media. These findings confirm that integrated and collaborative Islamic culture-based character education management is effective in responding to students’ moral crises in a systemic and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an industry-based Merdeka curriculum management model (MKBI) to foster entrepreneurial interest among vocational school students, while addressing the challenges of low graduate employability and limited curriculum integration with industry needs. The research method employs the Research and Development (R&D) model by Richey and Klein, comprising three main stages: (1) needs analysis through three Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving vocational high school teachers, industry practitioners, and the Education Department; (2) conceptual design of the MKBI model incorporating four core competencies (technical, marketing, financial, and human relations) along with supporting infrastructure and technology; and (3) model validation by curriculum experts and industry practitioners using a scale-based feasibility questionnaire. The research results indicate that, conceptually, 100% of experts stated that the model has a strong theoretical foundation, is relevant to industry and education needs, and can enhance students' interest in entrepreneurship. In terms of benefits, 100% of experts assessed that the model makes a real contribution to improving entrepreneurial understanding and skills and can be applied in various vocational school departments. In terms of practical feasibility, 67% of experts assessed that the implementation guidelines are clear, while 33% assessed that improvements are needed to facilitate implementation in schools with limited resources. The implications of this research are the need for continuous adaptation to technological developments and industry needs, strengthening school-industry partnerships, and providing measurable evaluation systems such as indicators of the number of students who start businesses after graduation or participate in entrepreneurship projects during their studies. The MKBI model developed has the potential to serve as a national benchmark for enhancing the relevance of vocational education, reducing unemployment among SMK graduates, and cultivating a competent and entrepreneurial-ready younger generation.

Abstract

The rapid development of electric vehicle (EV) technology has created an urgent need for vocational students to master the concepts and practical knowledge of electric power systems in automotive applications. However, the lack of appropriate learning media and limited access to real EV components have made it difficult for students to understand the relationship between theoretical knowledge and its practical application. This study aims to implement an Electric Vehicle Kit (EV-KIT) as an innovative learning medium to improve students’ understanding of electric vehicle components and working systems in the Pendidikan Vokasional Teknologi Otomotif (PVTO) Program at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. The research used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product was validated by three experts and tested through two trials involving 6 students in a limited trial and 19 students in an expanded implementation. Data were collected using observation sheets, questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test instruments, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test. The validation results showed that the EV-KIT achieved a feasibility level of 88.4%, categorized as “very feasible.” The average N-Gain score of 0.65 indicated a moderate to high improvement in students’ knowledge of EV components and their functions. Furthermore, students’ responses reached 86.7%, categorized as “very good,” showing that the EV-KIT is practical, safe, and effective in supporting active and project-based learning. The implementation of EV-KIT not only improved students’ conceptual understanding but also enhanced their motivation and readiness to face the transition toward electric vehicle technology in the automotive industry. Therefore, the EV-KIT is recommended as an alternative instructional media for vocational and higher education to strengthen competence in electric vehicle systems.
