Abstract

Unhealthy eating behaviors represent a significant issue among university students, particularly those experiencing academic and psychological pressures. These conditions can lead to stress and anxiety, which may escalate into depression. Furthermore, the adverse effects of unhealthy eating behaviors driven by depression can severely impact students' health, often resulting in neglect of nutritional intake. This negligence contributes to nutritional problems such as malnutrition, overnutrition, and the onset of chronic diseases. This study aims to examine the relationship between depression and eating behaviors among final-year students at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Teuku Umar. Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional approach, the study involved a population of 223 final-year students, with a sample size of 70 selected in 2023/2024. Conducted in June 2024, the research employed questionnaires for primary data collection. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. Results revealed a significant association between depression and eating behaviors (p = 0.001, CI 95% = 1.899–15.902). Among the participants, 64.3% exhibited depressive symptoms, and 61.4% demonstrated unhealthy eating behaviors. The analysis indicated that students with depression were 1.94 times more likely to engage in unhealthy eating behaviors. This study concludes that depression significantly increases the risk of unhealthy eating behaviors among final-year students.

Abstract

Anemia remains a significant global health concern, with the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting a prevalence of 29.9% in 2023. Among pregnant women aged 15–49, anemia affects over half a billion individuals, potentially leading to complications such as preterm birth, low birth weight, and developmental disorders due to inadequate iron reserves in newborns. Despite efforts at the Johan Pahlawan Health Center to distribute Fe tablets to 921 pregnant women, cases of low hemoglobin (Hb) levels persist. This study aims to examine the relationship between compliance with Fe tablet consumption and Hb levels in pregnant women. Using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach, data were collected from 48 pregnant women in May 2024. Chi-Square statistical analysis revealed a significant association between Fe tablet adherence and Hb levels, with a p-value of 0.024. These findings indicate that adherence to Fe tablet consumption correlates with improved Hb levels among pregnant women in the Johan Pahlawan Health Center's working area. Future studies are encouraged to explore the impact of high-iron dietary intake on maternal weight gain during pregnancy to provide a comprehensive understanding of maternal nutrition.

Abstract

The participation of mothers with toddlers in Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Post) activities is essential for monitoring children's growth, health, and nutrition through regular weighing with the Towards Health Card (KMS). In 2020, only 43.3% of toddlers in West Aceh were weighed, with Puskesmas Johan Pahlawan recording just 13.9% in 2023, and Gampa Village showing only 0.15% from July to September. This study aimed to identify factors influencing mothers' visits to Posyandu in Gampa Village, West Aceh District. Using a descriptive correlation method with a cross-sectional design, 125 mothers with toddlers were selected from a population of 358 through accidental sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Significant relationships were found between Posyandu visits and education (p = 0.046), knowledge (p = 0.041), and family support (p = 0.003), while no significant relationships were observed for occupation (p = 0.337) and distance to Posyandu (p = 0.773). Strengthening counseling and socialization efforts is recommended to improve maternal awareness of the importance of regular Posyandu attendance for children's growth and development monitoring.

Abstract

Breast milk is recognized as the optimal source of nutrition for infants, particularly during the early stages of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, followed by complementary feeding while continuing breastfeeding for up to two years. The Johan Pahlawan Health Center reported one of the lowest rates of exclusive breastfeeding coverage in West Aceh District in 2020, at 24.7%. This study aims to identify factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding practices among mothers in Gampa Village, Johan Pahlawan District, West Aceh Regency. Employing a cross-sectional research design with a quantitative approach, data for dependent and independent variables were collected simultaneously. A purposive sampling method was used, and statistical analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of ?=0.05. The findings revealed that among 34 respondents, 30 mothers (88.2%) provided exclusive breastfeeding, while 4 mothers (11.8%) did not. The study concluded that variables such as education, occupation, and knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding are significantly related to breastfeeding practices, whereas age showed no significant relationship with exclusive breastfeeding in the study population.

Abstract

Malnutrition is a public health problem in developing countries, with 50% of the 10-11 million children under five each year dying from preventable causes. West Aceh regency is known as the wealthiest district, but the wealth cannot necessarily overcome the problems of its people. This is indicated by discovering cases of malnutrition and malnutrition in the West Aceh Regency. Various efforts have addressed the nutritional issue, but the pain rate is still high. Purpose: This study aims to find out the relationship between environmental sanitation and infectious diseases with the nutritional status of toddlers in Meureubo Subdistrict, West Aceh Regency. Method: The type of research used is analytical survey research with a cross-sectional design. The sample was toddlers aged 0-59 months. The number of study samples of 95 people was taken by proportional random sampling method. Environmental sanitation variables were obtained from interviews with respondents using questionnaires and direct observations. Infectious disease variables were obtained from interviews with respondents. Variables bound to nutritional status are determined based on anthropometric measurements using the Weight/age indicator. The bivariate analysis uses chi-square and multivariate tests using logistic regression. Results: Statistical test results show that toddlers who do not have latrines will result in wasting in toddlers (95%CI:1.19-6.45), who do not have access to clean water (95% CI: 0.82-4.38), have a history of infectious diseases for the last three months (95% CI: 1.5- 8.5). From these results, we can conclude that the most significant influence on wasting is a child with a history of infectious diseases.
