Abstract

In the context of family life, parents are considered a very important factor in creating and maintaining blessings for their children. The piety or righteousness of parents becomes the cause of Allah's mercy and protection not only for themselves but also for their descendants. Therefore, this article discusses the significance of parental righteousness, which has a profound impact on Allah's protection of their offspring, through the perspective of exegeses on Surah Al-Kahfi, verse 82. This article adopts a thematic tafsir approach by comparing the explanations of classical and contemporary scholars, namely Ibn Kathir and Wahbah Az-Zuhaili, on the key study of Surah Al-Kahfi, verse 82. The first part of this discussion introduces brief biographies of the two scholars, their tafsir writing systems, and the approaches to interpretation they employed. It then presents their respective interpretations before comparing the two. The findings of this research show that parental righteousness is highly relevant in safeguarding the blessings for their descendants. Both tafsirs agree that parental piety plays a key role in determining blessings, both in material aspects (such as protection of wealth) and spiritual aspects (such as divine guidance and the safety of children in this life and the hereafter).

Abstract

Religion is often characterized by gender inequality. Gender equality has always been a subject of controversy, especially in explaining, interpreting, and determining the law between women and men. At-Thabari and Buya Hamka have similarities and differences in interpreting surah an-Nisa': 34. This research aims to find out the interpretation of surah an-Nisa': 34 according to the classic and contemporary interpreters At-Thabari and Buya Hamka, looking for similarities and differences in the interpretations of At-Thabari and Buya Hamka, and knowing the relevance of gender equality in the perspective of surah an-Nisa': 34. This type of research uses library research. Then it is analyzed with a comparative descriptive method, carried out by analyzing, comparing, and checking data validity techniques to obtain research results in accordance with the objectives. The results of this study indicate that At-Thabari and Buya Hamka's thoughts on gender equality have similarities in interpreting surah an-Nisa': 34 regarding male authority over women, and there are differences in thinking based on surah An-Nisa: 34 regarding interpretative views. Differences in time, conditions, situations, and civilizations that influence them. Based on this research, it can also be concluded that surah an- Nisa': 34 emphasizes that Islam on several occasions exalts the position of men over women. Gender equality is part of Islamic values that apply universally.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of khilafah in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 30 through a comparative analysis of Tafsir Fii Zhilalil Qur’an by Sayyid Qutb and Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka. Sayyid Qutb interprets khilafah as the implementation of Allah’s sovereignty on earth, emphasizing the application of Islamic law in all aspects of life, both individual and collective. His perspective is influenced by the socio-political conditions of 20th-century Egypt, marked by struggles for an Islamic governance system. In contrast, Buya Hamka views khilafah as a divine mandate that is not limited to political leadership but also encompasses human relationships with God, fellow beings, and nature. He highlights the importance of moral and spiritual values, as well as social responsibility in maintaining justice and balance. His approach is more inclusive, adapting to the pluralistic society and modernization dynamics in Indonesia. Through thematic and comparative analysis, this study finds that the differences in interpretation between the two scholars are significantly influenced by their social and ideological backgrounds. The findings indicate that khilafah is not only a political concept but also carries ethical and spiritual dimensions relevant to building a just and sustainable civilization. Thus, Surah Al-Baqarah verse 30 provides a philosophical foundation for humanity in fulfilling the mandate of khilafah in accordance with the demands of the times.

Abstract

This comparative study analyzes the relevance of the methodology of the interpretation of two Kalimantan scholars, Sheikh Muhammad Arsyad al-Banjari (pre-modern) and Muhammad Basiuni Imran(transitional era), with the framework of muhammadiyah interpretation (modern), focusing on two problem formulations: (1) the intellectual relationship and methodological relevance between the three, and (2) the relevance of their interpretation methods to the development of religion in Kalimantan. With a qualitative method based on literature studies and content analysis, this study finds that there is an intellectual common thread in the spirit of tajdid, the use of rationality, and contextualization, but with fundamental differences in the institutional model in which Muhammadiyah has succeeded in building a sustainable collective model, in contrast to the individual model of the two ulama. The implications of this research offer a historical perspective for the development of a contextual and moderate Indonesian Islamic discourse, as well as conclude that the thoughts of the two scholars have a deep compatibility with Muhammadiyah, whose excellence lies in the ability to institutionalize the intellectual heritage adaptively.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the phonological relationship between Qur'anic readings (qirā'āt) and modern Arabic dialects by examining how variations in the recitations reflect the diversity of Arabic pronunciation from the early Islamic period to the present. Grounded in historical linguistics and sociolinguistic theory, the research views the qirā'āt as linguistic evidence of early Arabic dialectal diversity and as a foundation for understanding the development of spoken Arabic. It draws upon classical works such as Ibn Mujāhid's Al-Sab'ah fī al-Qirā'āt and Ibn al-Jazarī's Al-Nashr fī al-Qirā'āt al-'Ashr, alongside the contributions of modern linguists such as Tammam Hassan and Ahmed Mukhtar Omar, who have highlighted the linguistic significance of the qirā'āt, noting that few studies have directly compared these phonological features with those of contemporary dialects. Employing a descriptive, analytical, and comparative linguistic approach, the study examines phonetic phenomena such as imālah (vowel fronting), tashīl al-hamz (glottal easing), idghām (assimilation), and ibdāl (substitution) across Qur'anic readings and modern dialects. The findings reveal direct correspondences between certain phonetic traits in present-day dialects-such as the softening of the glottal stop and vowel fronting-and patterns documented in the qirā'āt. This connection underscores the historical continuity of the Arabic language and provides valuable linguistic insights for Qur'anic and phonological studies. The novelty of this research lies in its unique integration of Qur'anic phonology and modern dialectology, demonstrating that the qirā'āt preserve ancient dialectal features that remain alive in contemporary spoken Arabic.

Abstract

Humans know time in every life, with the passage of time, humans encounter many experiences in the surrounding environment that can be used as material for thinking to improve their future. In explaining the concept of time management and its implementation in Surah al-'Ashr with the tahlili method which explores the meaning of each vocabulary referring to Arabic rules, such as nahwu Sharaf, balaghah, and semantics. In addition, it will discuss the interpretation of the scholars. Then continued to explore the aspects of maqashidi, education, and wisdom. With the explanation of the concept of time in Surah Al-'Ashr, humans can take lessons to make the best use of time. This is so that humans avoid losses both in this world and in the hereafter. Scholars differ in their interpretation of time, the first opinion says that time includes the steps and movements contained in it, the second opinion says that time is the time when the Asar prayer is carried out, the third opinion says that time is the presence of the Prophet Muhammad in this life. The word of Allah SWT in Surah Al-'Ashr illustrates that the condition of human beings is really at a disadvantage except for those who believe, those who do good deeds, and those who advise each other in truth and patience. To realize the implementation of the best time in life in the world, humans must maximize their efforts and prayers so that every time is guided by Allah SWT, the Lord of the Universe.
