Abstract

Nowadays, waste production in Indonesia is increasing, one of which is organic waste. The utilization of BSF (Black Slodier Fly) larvae as an organic waste reducer is an alternative to reducing waste in Indonesia. This journal uses a qualitative descriptive method with a type of literature study (research study), namely collecting information through scientific articles related to the utilization of BSF larvae as organic waste reducers. This study aims to determine the effect of different types of organic waste reduced by BSF larvae on larval growth and organic waste reduction speed. BSF larvae can reduce various types of organic waste such as fruit waste, vegetable waste, animal meat, and even decomposing waste. The humidity and temperature of the larval growth medium is one of the factors that influence the speed of the organic waste reduction process by BSF larvae.

Abstract

Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae are one type of insect that has the potential to help reduce organic waste because they can act as decomposers by converting organic waste biomass into high-quality protein. In their utilization, adult BSF larvae are often used as a component in fish and livestock feed, and the leftover maggots can be utilized as a substitute material for NPK fertilizers. The nutrient content and quality of adult BSF larvae, however, depend on the treatment received during their development, including their feeding media. This study aims to investigate the effect of different feeding media on the protein content of BSF larvae, with the goal of identifying the best treatment for BSF cultivation. The review is conducted by analyzing data from literature related to maggot feed and its nutrient content. The highest protein content, based on the collected data, is found in BSF larvae fed with a combination of 30% leftover food and 70% fruit waste, with a protein percentage of 59.25%.

Abstract

Increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions cause global warming. The importance of collecting data on emissions generation, including methane gas emissions (CH4) for GHG inventory. This research aims to provide a more accurate estimate of the production potential for methane gas (CH4) emissions at the solid waste disposal site in Selopuro, Ngawi Regency. Analysis of the generation of methane gas (CH4) emissions from waste landfill activities at SWDS was carried out using the IPCC Waste Model as stated in the guidelines for national greenhouse gas inventories published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2006. Methane emissions produced by organic waste were 12.22 tonsCH4/month, paper waste 6.60 tonsCH4/month, wood waste 2.61 tonsCH4/month, textile waste 0.88 tonsCH4/month, and rubber and leather waste 2.3 tonsCH4/month. If the CH4 emissions from each type of waste are added up, the resulting estimated CH4 emissions are 24.61 tonsCH4/month. Waste management activities at the integrated waste management site, compost processing and waste reduction by scavengers can reduce methane gas generation by 11.5% so that the potential for methane gas generation drops to 21.79 tonsCH4/month or 0.73 tonsCH4/day. The reduction in CH4 emissions can be increased by optimizing waste reduction or utilizing methane gas in landfills.

Abstract

The commitment to provide clean water and proper sanitation is one of the goals of the Sustainable Development Programs (SDGs). The government of each region needs to strive for clean water for the community. Efforts to fulfill clean water can be realized with the Water Supply System. Water Supply System sustainability indicators need to fulfill three aspects of quality, quantity, and continuity. The aim of this research is to assess the sustainability of the ‘Sugio’ Water Supply System in Lamongan Regency which serves three villages, namely Sugio, Lebakadi, and Sekarbagus. The aspect of water quality, seen from the results of the analysis of the quality of production water, shows that it meets the quality standards as raw water for drinking water. The aspect of water quantity is calculated to meet water needs for the next 20 years. The calculations results show that the daily average debit requirement is 17 L/s and the daily maximum debit is 19 L/s, while the existing debit is 15 L/s. The aspect of water continuity is calculated from the ability to distribute water during an emergency. The calculation results show that the distribution of clean water when there is no source of electrical energy can only be carried out in a maximum of 1 hour 13 minutes 48 seconds. The conclusion obtained is that the sustainability of the ‘Sugio’ Water Supply System from the aspect of water quantity and continuity still needs to be improved.

Abstract

The waste piles in the landfill pose a higher environmental hazard compared to the waste at its source due to the potential formation of leachate and air emissions. Consequently, waste management from the source is essential to minimize the amount of waste in the landfill. The waste management methods at each location typically vary based on the composition, characteristics, and quantity of waste present in that specific area. In this study, an analysis of waste piles at facility X was conducted through the process of sorting and weighing the waste during October 2023, with the objective of providing research findings that can be utilized to determine suitable waste management options for the location. The research revealed that the dominating composition of the waste consists of organic waste, with garden waste accounting for 55.95% and food residue comprising 10.75%. Composting was selected as the recommended alternative for waste treatment in the area. Garden waste, primarily composed of dry leaves, is suggested to be treated using the pile composting method, while food residue is suggested to be treated through a combination of Black Soldier Fly larvae biotechnology and Takakura composting.
