Abstract

Abstract. Communicable diseases and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus (DM), and Tuberculosis require a family medicine approach. Hypertension, often referred to as the silent killer, remains a major public health challenge due to its high prevalence among adults. More than half (59%) of adults aged 30 and above living with diabetes did not take medication for their condition in 2022. The lowest coverage of diabetes treatment is found in low- and middle-income countries. Ending the Tuberculosis (TB) epidemic by 2030 is one of the health targets in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This community service activity was conducted at the Ahmad Dahlan Building, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. Through this activity, it is expected that prolanis participants gain knowledge about DM, TB, and hypertension, as well as their preventive measures. The activity consisted of direct counseling regarding DM, TB, and hypertension. The participants’ knowledge level was measured using pre-test and post-test questionnaires related to the counseling material, involving 36 participants. The results showed an increase in knowledge from 54.8% to 65.2%. Participants were enthusiastic and actively engaged during the discussion sessions. All participants attended the counseling and demonstration sessions until completion. This community service activity can improve public knowledge and awareness regarding DM, hypertension, and TB. Abstrak. Abstract

The presence of fatigue among workers in the commercial house construction industry presents substantial obstacles to both the personal welfare of individuals and the overall efficiency of construction projects. The objective of this study is to investigate how individual factors, namely nutritional status, affect degrees of fatigue in this specific occupational group. Data was gathered from 45 construction workers in November 2023 using a cross-sectional methodology. Total sampling approaches were employed, and persons with pre-existing health issues were excluded. Analyzed were the univariate and bivariate data, which uncovered a noteworthy correlation between nutritional status and tiredness level (p-value=0,028). Although there were no significant correlations between age and sleep quality, the results emphasize the significance of dietary determinants in influencing tiredness levels among construction workers. Implications arise from the necessity of implementing specific interventions for example wellness and occupational diet program to encourage adequate nutrition and improve the well-being and productivity of workers in the construction sector. These findings enhance the progress of occupational health research and offer potential applicability for guiding standard of procedure and practical methods to prevent fatigue-related hazards especially in construction environments.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) and hypertension remain major public health burdens in Indonesia, contributing to the country’s persistent double burden of disease. Community-based health promotion programs serve as a strategic approach to enhance awareness and preventive behaviors. This research aim to evaluate the effect of educational interventions on knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors related to tuberculosis and hypertension under the Kelurahan Binaan. A pre–post interventional study was conducted among 83 adult participants selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria. Interventions included health education on TB and hypertension and dietary counseling delivered through lecture-based methods. Data on knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors were collected using validated questionnaires. Wilcoxon Signed Rank and McNemar tests were applied for analysis. Significant improvements were observed in knowledge of tuberculosis (Z = –6.050; p 0.001) and hypertension (Z = –4.735; p 0.001). Attitudes toward TB (p = 0.012) and hypertension (p 0.001) also increased significantly. Preventive behavior significantly improved for both TB (Z = –3.632; p 0.001) and hypertension (p 0.001). Correlation analysis revealed significant associations between knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors. Educational and dietary interventions effectively improved community knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors toward tuberculosis and hypertension. Sustainable and continuous education programs are recommended to maintain these improvements.

The program applied structured health education methods, including audio-visual presentations, live demonstrations, and guided practice. This intervention aimed to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases associated with poor hand hygiene behavior. Evaluation using pre-test and post-test assessments showed a measurable improvement in students’ knowledge, with a mean post-test score increase of 0.47 points compared to the pre-test. These findings indicate that structured HWWS education effectively improves hand hygiene awareness among elementary school students and supports school-based health promotion programs as a sustainable community health intervention model. It is essential for teachers and school authorities to integrate handwashing hygiene habits into daily routines, such as before meals. Keywords: Clean and Healthy Living Behavior, Handwashing Hygiene, Health Education, Helminthiasis.

Abstract

Purpose: Adolescents are very vulnerable to depression because adolescence is a period of psychological development. Research on family function in adolescents experiencing depression is still limited. This study aims to determine the association of family assessment tools with depression in adolescents. Methods: This study was an observational, cross-sectional analysis conducted from October to December 2024. The population of this study was all high school students at SMAN 4 Palembang, and the sample was all 3rd-grade students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 177 respondents were included. The independent variable studied was the family assessment tools, and the dependent variable was depression. The Family function examination is assessed using the APGAR score, which consists of adaptation, partnership, growth, affection, and resolve. In contrast, the SCREEM consists of social, cultural, religious, economic, educational, and medical. Adolescent mental health was measured using the Children's Depression Inventory Questionnaire. The data were then analyzed using the chi-square test, and the Fisher test if the chi-square test did not meet its assumptions. Results: There were significant relationships between APGAR score (p-value=0.000), social (p-value=0.001), culture (p-value=0.003), religion (p-value=0.000), and education (p-value=0.003) and adolescent depression. There is no relationship between the economy (p-value 0.387) and access to health (p-value=0.797) in depression in adolescents. Conclusion: APGAR scores can be integrated into family folders within health services to facilitate practitioners' involvement of families in depression management. Families are expected to play a greater role, especially in the social, cultural, religious, and educational spheres.
