Abstract

Background: Rabies is a zoonotic disease transmitted through the bite of an animal infected with the rabies virus. It has a fatality rate of nearly 100% and can potentially cause death in both humans and animals. Currently, there is no effective treatment, making post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) vaccination the only life-saving measure. Purpose: To increase knowledge and behavior regarding rabies prevention through religious-based education for religious leaders and the community. Method: Community service activities were carried out on September 12, 2025, at the Kolisia Village Office, Magepanda District, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, targeting 50 dog-owning families who had given informed consent. This intervention was designed as religious-based education to improve rabies prevention behavior, with an approach adapted to the social and cultural characteristics of the local community. Education was provided through a lecture method for ± 15 minutes using powerpoint media and modules, followed by discussion and questions and answers for ± 10 minutes to deepen understanding including religious-based rabies prevention behavior. Measurement of the level of knowledge and understanding of participants using a questionnaire before the educational activity (pre-test) and after the educational activity (post-test). As an evaluation of the level of knowledge, attitudes, and rabies prevention behavior by comparing the pre-test and post-test scores. Results: The pre-test showed that community behavior regarding rabies prevention was generally in the adequate category, with knowledge at 72%, attitudes at 78%, and actions at 90%. After 30 minutes of education and discussion, the post-test results showed an increase, with knowledge in the good category at 42%, attitudes at 30%, and actions at 30%. Conclusion: Religious-based education has proven effective in improving rabies prevention behavior in communities in endemic areas, and therefore can be a promotive and preventive strategy for rabies control in the community. Suggestion: It is hoped that religious-based rabies prevention education activities can be implemented sustainably and expanded in scope by involving more religious leaders, health workers, and relevant cross-sectors.

Abstract

Abstract

Food care is a practice for individuals with normal or high blood sugar levels, performed regularly to maintain personal hygiene, especially to kill or inhibit the growth of germs/ bacteria on the skin and other body tissues. Proper food care aims to educate diabetes Mellitus patients about the risk factors for diabetic wounds and reduce the incidence of complications among high-risk patients. Objective to examine and implement independent foot care for patients with type II diabetes mellitus. This study employed a case study design with a single respondent. Data were collected using interview sheets to evaluate the outcomes. The findings indicate that implementing independent foot care is highly effective. According to the researcher’s observations, this intervention helps prevent complications such as gangrene. Post-treatment results showed significant improvements: the respondent’s feet appeared clean and moisturized, nails were neatly trimmed, calluses were reduced, and overall foot health was enhanced.

Abstract

The family serves as the foundational unit of society, playing a critical role in maintaining the physical, mental, and social well-being of its members. This includes responsibilities for caregiving, particularly for children, parents, and members requiring special attention. Families are tasked with meeting physical, emotional, and social needs while ensuring access to appropriate health services. Additionally, they provide a safe and nurturing environment, fostering the holistic development of children. Families act as the first line of defense against harm, violence, and abuse and are especially vital in protecting vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly. According to data from the Sikka Regency Health Office, there are 106,627 families in the region, including 118 families in Bola Hamlet. Objective to examine the functions of families in Bola Hamlet. This quantitative research employs a descriptive design aimed at understanding and outlining current conditions within a community. The study involved a population of 168 families and utilized an incidental sampling technique for data collection, with questionnaires as the primary instrument. Baik > 75 – 100%, cukup 50 – 74 %, kurang < 49 % The findings reveal that the most prominent family function is the socialization function, with 60 respondents (50%) categorized as sufficient. This is followed by the affective function, with 50 respondents (42%) in the sufficient category; the religious function, with 48 respondents (41%); the economic function, with 58 respondents (49%); and, lastly, the family care function, which showed the lowest performance, with only 33 respondents (27%) categorized as sufficient. This study provides an overview of family functions, including affective, socialization, economic, religious, and family care functions, concerning demographic factors such as age, gender, education, and occupation.
