Abstract

Stretch marks manifest as hyperpigmented dermal lesions that commonly occur during pregnancy. These cutaneous changes frequently cause physical discomfort and psychological distress among postpartum women, leading to diminished self-esteem and social withdrawal. Nonpharmacological interventions, particularly olive oil application, are potentially effective management approaches. This study evaluated the efficacy of topical olive oil in reducing stretch mark visibility among postpartum women in the Karang Mulya Community Health Center service area in 2024. This quantitative investigation employed a quasi-experimental design with pre- and posttest assessments. The participants included 45 postpartum women on postpartum day 6 residing within the Karang Mulya Health Center catchment area in March 2024. A total sampling technique was used, and data collection relied on standardized observational assessment tools. Statistical analysis was performed via the Mann‒Whitney test (p<0.05). The baseline assessment revealed a mean stretch mark severity score of 3.87 (SD=1.407) before olive oil application, which decreased significantly to 1.07 (SD=0.799) after the intervention. The experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant improvement compared with the control group (p<0.001), confirming marked differences in the visibility of stretch marks following olive oil treatment. Topical olive oil application significantly reduces stretch mark visibility in postpartum women. These findings support the implementation of this technique as a safe and accessible nonpharmacological intervention in postpartum care protocols for stretch mark management.

Abstract

UNICEF reports that every year, 2.6 million infants worldwide die within their first month of life. One of the determining factors is exclusive breastfeeding. WHO emphasizes the importance of exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months of age without additional food and drink. In Indonesia, the coverage of infants receiving exclusive breastfeeding reached 67.74%, but exclusive breastfeeding is only given to one in two infants under 6 months. Lack of exclusive breastfeeding means infants are not getting adequate nutrition. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the SPEOS (Stimulation of Endorphin, Oxytocin and Suggestive Massage) method in increasing exclusive breast milk production in postpartum mothers. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a sample of 30 postpartum mothers who were divided into two groups: (1) experimental group that received SPEOS massage method for 10 minutes, and (2) control group that did not receive the intervention. The dependent variable was breast milk production, while the independent variable was massage using the SPEOS method. Data were collected by measuring breast milk volume (ml) and analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the SPEOS method was effective in increasing exclusive breast milk production (p<0.001). The SPEOS method proved to be an effective way to increase exclusive breast milk production in postpartum mothers. The SPEOS method can increase breast milk production, so it needs to be socialized to postpartum mothers by health workers to increase the achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in infants.

Abstract

Nutritional problems in toddlers including stunting, remain a health challenge in the community, particularly due to insufficient intake of nutrients from complementary foods (MPASI). One of the causes is low vegetable consumption among children, even though local vegetables such as moringa leaves and red spinach contain vitamins, minerals, plant-based protein, and antioxidants that are highly beneficial for children's growth and development. This activity aims to educate mothers of infants in Sepanjang Jaya Village, Bekasi City, about the importance of nutritious complementary foods through the KEMORI food innovation (nuggets made from moringa leaves and red spinach). The implementation methods include nutrition education sessions, screening of a video on nugget production, distribution of informational leaflets, and a product tasting session. The results of the activity, attended by 25 participants, showed an increase in knowledge about the nutritional content of local vegetables and the skills to process them into more appealing nuggets for children. In conclusion, the KEMORI innovation can serve as a healthy, practical, and nutritious alternative to complementary foods, while also promoting the use of local food ingredients for stunting prevention and improving the nutritional resilience of infants.
