Abstract

Kota Maksum is an elite area that was once the residence of the nobles of the Deli Sultanate since the royal family moved from the palace in Labuhan to the Maimun Palace in 1891. The development of Kota Maksum was inseparable from the collaboration between the kingdom and the Dutch colonialists at that time so that the buildings of the Sultanate Many Delis were built by Dutch architects, including the Kota Maksum area. One proof of the legacy of the residence of the Deli nobles in Maksum City today is the house of Sultan Amaluddin Tengku Khalijah's wife. This house is the residence of Tengku Khalijah, the wife of Sultan Amaluddin Sani Perkasa Alamsyah, located in Maksum City. What's unique is that this house still stands strong today, even though it looks like the house is not very well maintained. In this way, the author immediately plunged into the field to see the house. This research aims to reveal the architectural style and ornaments used in the house of Sultan Amaluddin Tengku Khalijah's wife in Maksum City. The research method used in this research is a historical approach using data collection techniques through field observations, direct interviews with Tengku Khalijah's descendants, and literature study. The findings from this research show that Tengku Khalijah's house is structurally styled using Dutch colonial architecture which can be seen in elements such as stiles, doors, windows, dormer roofs, roof peak decoration and the use of the dominant color white in the house which is generally also used. on Other Colonial houses. Several typical Malay ornaments with floral motifs are also used in this house.

Abstract

This research examines the "Dynamics of the Marpangir Tradition within the North Padang Lawas Regency Community" with a primary focus on its historical emergence and evolving dynamics during the period from 1990 to 2000. Employing qualitative methods, including an anthropological approach and ethnographic data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation, this study draws from seven informants representing diverse backgrounds, such as community leaders, tradition practitioners, and local authorities. The findings highlight the Marpangir Tradition as a customary practice in North Padang Lawas Regency, serving as a purification ritual preceding Ramadan fasting. Despite its long-standing presence in local culture, significant transformations have occurred between 1990 and 2000, including the adoption of practical alternatives like shampoo and soap due to challenges in sourcing traditional ingredients. Furthermore, a shift in community engagement is observed, with more young individuals utilizing the tradition for social interactions and even dating, offering valuable insights into the adaptability of cultural traditions in response to changing societal values.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the architectural dynamics inherited by the Bedagai Kingdom through cultural acculturation, focusing on the Jamik Ismailiyah Mosque. The mosque was founded in 1880 by Prince Ismailiyah and underwent dynamic changes in form while still maintaining its historical existence. This research uses the historical method which includes heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography to explore the problem in depth. Observations were made using architectural theory and diachronic theory to provide a complete picture of the architectural dynamics of the Jamik Ismailiyah Mosque in Tanjung Beringin District, Serdang Bedagai. The results showed that since the establishment of the mosque in 1880 until 1982, there were various architectural acculturations that mostly still dominated traditional Malay architectural patterns. This research reveals the dynamics and development of the mosque's architectural concept based on history and acculturation findings, including changes in the layout and additions to the mosque building, providing a complete picture of the dynamic development during the period 1937-1982.
