Abstract

This community service program in Sungai Kapih Village, Samarinda City, was implemented to strengthen the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the development of functional food innovations based on oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) fortified with pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius). The program was motivated by the limited product diversification and underutilization of local ingredients as sources of functional food. A participatory approach was applied, consisting of needs assessment, socialization on the concept of functional food, technical training, production and packaging assistance, as well as monitoring and evaluation. The results showed significant improvements in participants’ knowledge of functional foods and technical skills in producing oyster mushroom–pandan fortified products, such as noodles and nuggets. Pre-test and post-test evaluations revealed an increase in processing skills from 40% to 80%, and a rise in positive attitudes toward innovation from 35% to 85%. The developed products demonstrated higher nutritional value and better sensory attributes, offering strong market potential and enhancing MSME competitiveness. Beyond economic benefits, this innovation also contributes to public health, as oyster mushrooms provide protein, fiber, and bioactive compounds, while pandan leaves enrich antioxidant properties and sensory appeal. The program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 on Good Health and Well-Being, while simultaneously supporting local food security and sustainable community empowerment

Abstract

Vaccines are very susceptible to damage, so vaccine management requires special handling. Vaccines if handled not according to the provisions can cause damage to the vaccine so that it reduces or eliminates the potential, and can even cause post-immunization adverse events when administered. The objective of this study is to assess the compliance of immunization vaccine storage and distribution at Samarinda Pharmacy Installation with the Good Distribution Practices (GDP) Guidelines of 2020 and Guidelines for Vaccine Management in Healthcare Facilities of 2021 for the period December 2024. This research approach is qualitative research. Qualitative research is presented in descriptive form. Data collection was carried out by observation using a checklist, document observation in 2024 and interviews with the pharmacist in charge. The population in this study were all immunization vaccines stored at the Samarinda Pharmacy Installation. The results obtained will be compared with the guidelines of good distribution practice and the guidelines for vaccine management in health facilities. Based on the results of the study conducted at Samarinda Pharmacy Installation, the compliance of vaccine storage was 67% based on the GDPN Guidelines of 2020 and 94% based on the Guidelines for Vaccine Management in Healthcare Facilities of 2021. The compliance rate of vaccine distribution was 83% based on the GDP Guidelines of 2020 and 100% based on the Guidelines for Vaccine Management in Healthcare Facilities of 2021.

Abstract

Abstract

Antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) against Staphylococcus haemolyticus. Background highlights the growing concern over antibiotic resistance, which poses significant health risks at both the individual and societal levels. This study aims to explore natural alternatives to antibiotic treatment, leveraging the traditional use of natural ingredients in medicine. This study will employ a systematic approach, including the extraction of active compounds from the leaves using a maceration method with 96% ethanol as a solvent. The study will also assess the presence of bioactive compounds such as triterpenoids, known for their pharmacological properties, including antibacterial effects. The research question focuses on determining the antibacterial efficacy of the extract and categorizing the degree of inhibition based on varying concentrations. These findings are expected to contribute to the understanding of natural remedies in combating bacterial infections and may pave the way for future drug development based on plant-derived compounds. This proposal examines the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) against Staphylococcus haemolyticus as a natural alternative to address antibiotic resistance. The maceration method is used to extract bioactive compounds such as triterpenoids. This study evaluated the antibacterial effectiveness at various concentrations and is expected to support the development of plant-based medicines.

Abstract

Soursop is a plant that grows in tropical areas and has long been widely used as a traditional medicine for various diseases such as cystitis, diabetes, headaches, flu, asthma, and insomnia. The use of soursop seeds is still limited because they are usually thrown away Soursop seeds have almost the same phytochemical content as the leaves, it was found that 96% ethanol extract of soursop seeds positively contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, and polyphenols. This study aims to determine the activity of ethanol extract of soursop seeds on the growth of Staphylococcus haemolyticus bacteria in vitro using the disc diffusion method with concentrations of 10%, 20 and 30%. The disc diffusion method measures the area of the clear zone formed around a paper disc, used to determine antimicrobial activity. The results showed that the ethanol extract of soursop seeds (Annona muricata L.) has antibacterial activity against the growth of Staphylococcus haemolyticus bacteria at concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. The average diameter of the inhibition zone for the ethanol extract of soursop seeds (Annona muricata L.) at concentrations of 10% (2,798 mm), 20% (4,392 mm), and 30% (5,741 mm), and the average for the positive control was 7.465 with a standard deviation of 2.49, categorized as very strong.
