Abstract

The harvest area of soybeans tends to fluctuate since 2000-2015. The decrease in soybean harvest area caused by competitiveness or soybean price that less profitable than other food commodities. It is caused by declining interest of farmers to plant soybeans, it can be seen from the decline in the number of harvest area that steadily decreasing from year to year (BPS Province of Jambi, 2015). This research aims to determine the factors that influence the soybean area response in the Province of Jambi and elasticity in the short term and long term. The data used in this research is secondary data time series for 16 years (2000-2015). The problems in this research were analyzed by quantitative descriptive method using multiple linear regression analysis model. Elasticity calculated in the long term and short term. Based on the results of this research has known factors that influence the harvest area, that is the price of soybean in the previous year, the price of rice in the previous year, the price of corn in the previous year and harvested area in the previous year. In the short term and long term the soybean acreage is quite responsive to price changes, although in the short term not more responsive than the long term. It shows that the effect of price changes more responded by farmers to expand the acreage (extensification) than by increasing productivity (intensification).

Abstract

This research is aimed to: 1) determine the development of pepper export from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia in ASEAN market from 2000-2015, 2) analyze export competitiveness of pepper from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia in ASEAN market from 2000-2015, 3) analyze the difference of pepper export competitiveness from Indonesia and Vietnam in ASEAN market from 2000-2015, and 4) analyze the difference of pepper export competitiveness from Indonesia and Malaysia in ASEAN market from 2000-2015. Type of research used is descriptive quantitative. The research data are total export value and pepper export value from world to ASEAN, pepper export and import value of Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia, and total export value of Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia in 2000-2015. The data used are obtained from the official website of Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations Commodity Trade, Central Statistics Agency, and Directorate General of Estate Crops. The results of the comparison competitiveness of Indonesia and Vietnam pepper exports showed that significant result from RCA (0.73), ECI (0.88), CMS (Commodity Composite Effect) (0.62), CMS (Market Distribution Effect) (0.55), and CMS (Competitiveness Effect) (0.59) is greater than the value of α (0.05). Based on these calculations, it can be seen that there is no difference in comparative competitiveness, competitive competitiveness, commodity composition effect, market distribution effect, and competitiveness effect between Indonesia and Vietnam. However, the significant result of ISP (0.02) is smaller than the value of α (0.05) which means that difference in the position of competitiveness from Indonesia greater than Vietnam. The same is true for the comparison competitiveness of Indonesia and Malaysia pepper exports, but the value of significant is different from the comparations of Indonesia and Vietnam.

Abstract

Smallholder plantations play an important role in oil palm development in Jambi Province with a contribution of 70.47 percent to the total area and 57.10 to total palm oil production. Most of the smallholder plantations are self-managed which do not get technical guidance from both the government and the private sector. Therefore various problems are found in independent smallholders, one of which is the discrimination of the price of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) produced by independent smallholders. Price discrimination does not only occur between independent smallholders and plasma farmers, but also occurs between independent smallholders. Data were collected from 240 respondents spread across 12 villages in 3 districts of palm oil production centers. Data were analyzed by quantitative descriptive method and using multiple linear regression analysis models. The results of the study concluded that there were differences in prices around Rp. 300 to Rp. 500 per kg of FFB between prices received by independent smallholders and prices received by plasma farmers and among independent smallholders. The price difference is significantly influenced by the quality factor of the seeds used, the amount of fertilizer use, the experience of farmers in farming and the marketing channels used.
