Abstract

Pariaman Utara District has the most extensive mangrove forest, which is 16.5 ha, in Apar Village the amount (6.0 ha). The purpose of this study was to determine the type and density of mangrove forests and to determine the condition of mangrove forests by determining the percentage of canopy cover in Apar Village. The method used in this research is a survey method, where the data collected is data obtained directly from the field which is then analyzed the data. The research procedure consisted of several stages, namely, collecting density data at 3 stations. Each station consisted of 3 straight line transects along 50 meters from the sea and estuary to land with a position perpendicular to the coast and having a distance between transect lines of 50 meters. In each transect line there are 3 plots arranged in a zigzag manner with a size of 10 m x 10 m for the tree category mangrove community structure. Retrieval of canopy cover photo data which was then analyzed by hemispherical photography. The results of measurements of water quality from the research location were temperature 29 - 30 ° C, salinity 4 - 5 ‰ and pH of the waters were 6-7. The composition of mangroves in the research locations were Sonneratia caseolaris, Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora mucronata, Nypa fructicans. Density at station I, 1700.00 trees/ha, station II 1311.11 trees/ha and station III 1888.89 trees/ha. Canopy cover at station I, 80.65%, station II, 58.46% and station III, 83.21%.

Abstract

Contact with child protection systems are a key site of the expression of social inequalities, yet research into the size and nature of this relationship remains sparse in Jakarta system context. This article reports on a study of the relationships between child protection system contact and small area-level deprivation. Using a national linked dataset including all children with system contact in 2013–14, (n =13,851 children) it found there is a marked relationship between deprivation and system contact, and significant differences between regions for all three outcomes of interest. Compared to children living in the least deprived quintile of small areas, children in the most deprived quintile had, on average, 13 times the rate of substantiation, 18 times the rate of a family group conference, and 6 times their chance of placement in foster care. There was limited evidence for the ‘inverse intervention law’ that proposes that children in similarly deprived small areas have higher rates of child protection system contact if they live in less deprived regions (larger areas). The pattern of placements showed the strongest support for this law, with children in similarly deprived small areas having, on average, almost twice the rate of placement if they lived in less deprived regions compared to more deprived regions. These findings have implications for policy, as they suggest a need to apply an inequalities perspective to child protection similarly to health inequities. Specifically, action is needed to address the causes of deprivation, provide services that respond to families living in poverty, address biases, and undertake further research to examine the interactions between demand and supply of services between similar deprivation levels.

Abstract

The use of wood requires wood conditions with low air content (KA) according to the environment. Its position can influence wood properties in the trunk. The objectives of this research are a) to analyze the natural drying properties, namely the drying rate in the radial direction of tumeh wood, and b) to analyze natural drying defects. The method used refers to Hidayat and Karnasudirdja 1987. The parameters measured are natural drying properties (drying rate) and drying defects. Statistical analysis used t test. The results show that the natural drying rate pattern is greater near the liver than near the bark. The location in the radial direction of the wood (near the bark and the heart) has no significant effect to the natural drying of tumeh wood. The natural drying defect found were surface check and end check. Further research into the natural drying properties of tumeh wood in different diameters is necessary to utilize the wood effectively and efficiently.

Abstract

The shrinkage of wood and the dimensions of wood fibers in the radial positions of stem are two important factors in the use of wood. An understanding of the dimension of wood fiber and the shrunkage of the wood in the radial direction can guide the optimum use of timber. The purpose of this study is to determine the shrinkage and changes in the dimensions of the timber (Combretocarpus rotundatus Dans) in the radial direction. The method used refers to the British and IAWA standards. The parameters measured are the radial and tangential shrinkage of wood as well as the dimensions of the fiber. The t test is used to test statistically. The results obtained showed that the position in the radial direction of the stem had a significant influence on the tangential shrinkage of fresh-oven dry and the fiber dimensions of Tumeh wood. The tangential shrinkage of the near pith is lower than that near the bark. The nearest pith part has a shorter fiber length; a thicker fiber wall is thinner than the near bark but still in the same quality class (Grade III) Keywords: tumeh, combretocarpus rotundatus, shrinkage, fiber dimension, radial positions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of smartphone use on the reading frequency of fifth-grade students at SDN Semangat Dalam 3. The method used is quantitative correlational with a population of 24 students. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed that the average smartphone usage score was in the medium-high category, while reading frequency was low. The correlation test showed a significant negative relationship (rₛ = −0.40, p = 0.05), which means that the higher the intensity of smartphone usage, the lower the students' reading frequency. These findings were supported by teacher interviews, which revealed that smartphones were used more for entertainment, thereby affecting reading interest. The study highlights the important role of teachers and parents in balancing technology use with literacy habits in order to increase children's reading interest.

Abstract

Purun waste and sawdust are generally thrown away, not used by the community. This study examines the utilization of purun waste and sawdust with polyurethane adhesive. Purun is mixed with ironwood sawdust in a ratio of 5% and 95%; 10% and 90%; 0% and 100%. The adhesive used is 10% of the material weight. The particleboard is hydraulically pressed at a temperature of 105oC with a pressure of 15 kg/cm2 for 15 minutes. Each treatment is repeated 3 times. The results show that particleboard made from purun waste and sawdust has physical properties (water content and density) and mechanics that meet the requirements of SNI. 03-2105-2006, except for the MoR value. The addition of purun in the composition of particleboard materials does not significantly affect the properties of particleboard so it can be used as an alternative raw material.
