Abstract

The role of PKK members is crucial in promoting health at the family and community levels in Indonesia. This community service project aimed to strengthen the role of 17 PKK members in Jomblangan Village through structured health education and empowerment training. Utilizing a participatory action approach, the program focused on five thematic areas: balanced nutrition, stunting prevention, hygiene and sanitation, maternal and child health, and home-based first aid. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests, observation, and focus group discussions. The average knowledge score increased by 29%, and participants demonstrated behavioral changes such as improved dietary practices, regular growth monitoring, and proper hygiene habits. Qualitative data also revealed enhanced motivation and willingness to share knowledge within the community. The findings confirm that PKK members, when equipped with appropriate knowledge and skills, can become effective grassroots health promoters. The program proved effective, acceptable, and replicable, providing a scalable model for similar communities. Continuous mentoring and digital engagement are recommended for long-term sustainability.

Abstract

The low proficiency in the Indonesian language among residents of Kokoda Village serves as the primary background for this study, which is influenced by limited access to formal education and the complex socio-cultural context of the community. This research aims to measure the improvement in participants’ Indonesian language skills after engaging in a learning program designed with a contextual and participatory approach, as well as to understand the level of participant engagement throughout the program implementation. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, involving 45 participants as research subjects. Data were collected through tests assessing writing, reading, and speaking abilities in Indonesian. Data analysis was conducted in three stages: data processing, data management, and result interpretation, to provide a comprehensive overview of participants’ skill development. The findings reveal significant improvements across all language skill areas: reading ability increased to an average of 72%, writing ability reached 80%, and speaking ability reached 69%. Additionally, participant engagement was high, with 84% consistently attending at least 75% of the learning sessions, indicating strong motivation fostered through an interactive learning approach that integrates local content. The study’s implications highlight the importance of implementing learning programs that are sensitive to socio-cultural contexts and empower local facilitators to enhance functional literacy in remote areas. This approach not only improves learning outcomes but also supports program sustainability by strengthening social and cultural bonds within the community. The research provides recommendations for the development of more responsive educational programs that address the specific needs and characteristics of indigenous communities in future initiatives

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi praktik literasi digital dosen Bahasa Inggris Maritim di Politeknik Pelayaran Sorong. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh meningkatnya urgensi untuk mengintegrasikan perangkat digital dalam pengajaran English for Specific Purposes (ESP), khususnya dalam pendidikan kemaritiman. Meskipun urgensi tersebut tinggi, masih terdapat kesenjangan pemahaman mengenai bagaimana dosen memandang dan menerapkan literasi digital dalam konteks vokasional. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap pengalaman dosen dalam memilih perangkat digital, mengintegrasikannya ke dalam pedagogi, serta menghadapi dukungan maupun keterbatasan institusional. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan empat dosen Bahasa Inggris Maritim yang secara aktif menggunakan media digital dalam pengajarannya. Analisis tematik dilakukan dengan menggunakan kerangka kerja DigCompEdu dan Instructional Digital Literacy Model sebagai acuan konseptual. Penelitian menemukan bahwa para dosen menunjukkan beragam interpretasi dan penerapan literasi digital. Sebagian dosen secara kritis mengintegrasikan perangkat yang relevan untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan mahasiswa, sementara yang lain menggunakan sumber daya digital yang lebih sederhana karena keterbatasan pelatihan atau infrastruktur. Tantangan umum meliputi konektivitas internet yang tidak stabil, keterbatasan panduan institusional, serta ketiadaan program pengembangan profesional yang terstruktur. Meskipun demikian, para dosen menunjukkan motivasi yang kuat serta kesadaran akan pentingnya kompetensi digital untuk menyelaraskan pembelajaran dengan kebutuhan industri maritim. Penelitian ini menekankan perlunya dukungan institusional yang lebih terarah, termasuk pelatihan kontekstual dan pengembangan lingkungan pengajaran kolaboratif. Keterbatasan penelitian mencakup ukuran sampel yang kecil dan lingkup hanya pada satu institusi, sehingga dapat memengaruhi generalisasi temuan. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat diperluas dengan melakukan analisis komparatif lintas institusi atau wilayah.
