Abstract

This study aims to determine to what extent, the role of monochromatic light then being fed turmeric additives has an impact on the blood profile and body weight gain of Pitalah ducks. The material used was 100 Pitalah ducklings. The method used was an experiment with the Split Plot method arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatment started on day 15 and the duration of the study was 10 weeks. The treatment given is the main plot factor is monochromatic lighting consisting of yellow light as a control, blue, red, green. Subplot factor, namely turmeric consisting of B1: 18 gr and B2: 16 gr. The experimental results showed that the interaction between factor A (light) and factor B (turmeric) had no significant effect (P>0.05) on blood profile and body weight gain in Pitalah ducks. The conclusion of this study is that the administration of monochromatic light (yellow, blue, red, green) with turmeric levels (18 gr and 16 gr) has no interaction on blood profile (leukocytes & erythrocytes) and body weight gain in pitalah ducks. In this condition, leukocyte values ​​ranged from 18.39 to 73.51 (103 /mm-3 ) and erythrocyte values ​​from 18.39 to 73.5 (103 /mm-3 ), both of these values ​​were in a less normal range so that it can be indicated that the health condition of the ducks is not prime. Subsequently, body weight gain was obtained 63.58 - 78.16 grams/tails/week. Keywords: Monochromatic light, turmeric, blood profile, body weight gain and Pitalah ducks

Abstract

The community engagement team of the Animal Science Faculty of Andalas University conducted community services in the Animal Feed Ration Business group in Jorong Batang Sarik, Nagari Katapiang, Batang Anai District, Padang Pariaman Regency. The problems in the target group were 1) the business group still needs to get a permit to do business, and 2) it still needs to gain skills in processing feed for cattle based on agricultural waste. The activity aimed to assist business groups in obtaining Business Permit Numbers (BPN) and transferring agricultural waste-based feed technology for beef cattle. The transfer of knowledge and technology in service activities was carried out by mentoring, demonstration, and training methods regularly and continuously. The action resulted that the target group having a business permit in the form of BPN and the business group having knowledge and skills in producing feed for beef cattle in the form of Complete Ration Silage (CRS) based on corn straw.

Abstract

Itik Bayang merupakan salah satu plasma nutfah ternak unggas yang dikembangkan di daerah Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan. Ternak itik ini sudah dimasukkan dalam rumpun ternak melalui Keputusan Menteri Pertanian No.2835/Kpts/Lb,430. Sulitnya memeproleh bibit merupakan kendala dalam pengembangan itik Bayang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh sistem pemeliharaan ekstensif dan semi intensif terhadap fertilitas dan daya tetas telur itik Bayang. Total 960 butir telur itik Bayang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola split plot dengan 3 x 2 dengan 4 ulangan. Penetasan menggunakan tiga mesin tetas (A1, A2, A3) sebagai main plot dan 2 kelompok system pemeliharaan (B1, B2). Uji lanjut yang digunakan adalah Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Peubah yang diamati adalah fertilitas, daya tetas, bobot tetas dan daya hidup. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa system pemeliharaan ekstensif dan semi intensif memberikan pengaruh yang sangay nyata (P<0.01) terhadap fertilitas dan daya tetas telur itik Bayang, namun tidak menununjukkan pengaruh (P>0.05) terhadap bobot tetas dan daya hidup selama satu minggu. Pada pemeliharaan ekstensif fertilitas telur itik Bayang 88.33%, daya tetas berdasarkan telur yang masuk 48.80% dan berdasarkan telur yang fertil 54.82%. Rataan bobot tetas DOD dan daya hidup selama satu minggu pada kedua sistem pemeliharaan adalah 42.17 gr dan 96.60%.

Abstract

This activity aims to provide training and technology packages for improving the maintenance system, knowledge of feed ingredients, technology for producing duck feed based on local feed, restricted feeding. The ultimate goal of this activity is to increase egg production, productivity, feed cost efficiency in the context of developing and increasing farmers' income while forming / developing economically independent partner groups. This activity was carried out in Tanjung Haro Selatan, Luak District, 50 Kota Regency, West Sumatra. The partner involved in this activity is the "Duck Farmer Group "Usaha Baru" which reared egg and meat ducks. The methods used in this service program are counseling, demonstration, training, coaching and provision of technology packages, as well as observation and evaluation and data collection to measure the success parameters of the program being carried out. Based on the implementation of the community service, farmers were very enthusiastic in participating in this activity, almost 80% percent of farmers understand feeding management according to the needs of duck feed based on age level both in quality and quantity. the quality of the rations prepared by the farmer is not sufficient for the nutritional needs of ducks. Increasing egg production can be done by preparing duck rations by increasing animal protein and mineral levels in the ration. Increasing the income of duck farmers can be done by reducing production costs with rations prepared by farmers themselves sourced from local feed ingredients at a price of Rp. 6000, -.

Abstract

Itik Kamang memiliki bobot hidup dengan keragaman tinggi, sehingga perlunya dilakukan penelitian terhadap itik lokal di Sumatera Barat, yaitu itik Kamang, berupa keragaman pertambahan dan bobot hidup itik sampai umur 10 minggu dalam upaya pengambilan dasar keputusan pengembangan itik lokal di Sumatera Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan itik Kamang sebanyak 200 ekor, yang terdiri atas 100 ekor itik jantan dan 100 ekor itik betina, yang dipelihara mulai dari umur 1 hari sampai 10 minggu. Parameter yang diamati, yaitu pertambahan dan bobot hidup setiap minggu. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik deskriptif berupa nilai rata-rata, simpangan baku, dan koefisien keragaman. Nilai koefisien keragaman pertambahan dan bobot hidup itik Kamang termasuk dalam kategori tinggi, yaitu bernilai di atas 15%. Sehingga perlunya dilakukannya seleksi pada Itik Kamang terhadap performa pertambahan dan bobot sebagai upaya pembentukan itik pedaging lokal unggul di Sumatera Barat. Itik Kamang memiliki bobot hidup dengan keragaman tinggi, sehingga perlunya dilakukan penelitian terhadap itik lokal di Sumatera Barat, yaitu itik Kamang, berupa keragaman pertambahan dan bobot hidup itik sampai umur 10 minggu dalam upaya pengambilan dasar keputusan pengembangan itik lokal di Sumatera Barat. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman pertambahan dan bobot hidup itik Bayang sebagai itik pedaging lokal di Sumatera Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan 205 ekor Itik Bayang yang terdiri dari 106 jantan dan 99 betina yang dipelihara dari umur 1 hari hingga 10 minggu. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan metode observasi dengan hasil pengamatan berupa pertumbuhan dan bobot hidup setiap minggunya. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan keragaman pertambahan dan bobot hidup itik Bayang sangat tinggi (koefisien keragaman di atas15%). Sehingga dapat disimpulkan perlunya dilakukan seleksi untuk meningkatkan potensi itik lokal unggul di Sumatera Barat.

Abstract

This study uses the sequencing method to determine the genetic diversity of the prolactin gene (PRL) in the exon four region in Bayang ducks. This study used 118 blood samples of Bayang ducks. Blood samples were isolated and then sequenced using a pair of primers L: 5'- GCA CAG TTG TTC TTA CTA GTT CG -3' and R: 5'- TCT GAG AAC TTT GCA GCT ATC T -3', which produced a 586 bp fragment in the Prolactin (PRL) gene exon 4. The amplification product was sequenced using First Base Singapore's services. The results showed that there were 16 polymorphisms in the exon four region and parts of introns 3 and 4 in the Bayang duck sample, namely two deletions at position -223C>del and -218A>del and 14 mutations at position -136G>A, 157G>A, +9T>G, +11G>A, +16T>C, +20A>C, +25T>C, +29A>C, +35T>A, +38A>G, +43C>A, +71G>A, +84G>A, +91T>A. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that the diversity of the prolactin gene (PRL) of Bayang ducks in the exon four region is polymorphic and can be used as a candidate for marker-assisted selection in Bayang ducks.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the polymorphism of quantitative traits of Bayang ducks raised with intensive and extensive system in Bayang District, West Sumatera. This study used 114 Bayang ducks consisting of 60 males and 54 females. Ducks are raised intensively and extensively or traditionally in Bayang District. This study used the observation method by calculating the mean, standar deviation, and coefficient of variation. Data were analyzed using the t-test to see the effect of sex and rearing system. The variables observed in this study were body weight (BW), chest circumference (CC), beak length (BL), wing bone length (WBL), shank length (SL), shank circumference (SC), femur length (FL), tibia length (TL), and Back Length (BAL). The results showed that sex had a significant effect (P<0.01) on FL and (P<0.05) on SL and CC. The rearing system had a significant effect (P<0.05) on SC and FL in male Bayang ducks. The coefficient of variation (CV) in male Bayang ducks was moderate (>5-15%) except for TL which was small (<5%). While in female Bayang ducks WBL and TL have CV classified as low, CC classified as high and other traits classified as medium. The conclusion of this study is that sex and rearing system affect the quantitative characteristics of Bayang ducks and the CV of Bayang ducks is low to high.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity and correlation of egg production performance in Sikumbang Jonti ducks as a basis for making selection decisions. The materials used were 47 female Sikumbang Jonti ducks. In the production phase, Sikumbang Jonti ducks were intensively reared in individual battery cages for 24 weeks. The observed variables were body weight (g), age at first laying (days), egg production (eggs), and egg weight (g). Data on body weight, age at first laying, total egg production, and egg weight were analyzed descriptively by calculating the mean value, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, minimum value, and maximum value. Furthermore, data on body weight, age at first laying, egg production, and egg weight were also analyzed for correlation to see the direction and relationship between variables. The results of this study were that Sikumbang Jonti ducks have an average body weight of 1299g, age at first egg laying of 170.19 days, average total egg production of 36.62 eggs, and average egg weight of 59.06g. The diversity of body weight, age at first egg laying, and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks are moderate, while the diversity of egg production is high. The diversity of body weight, age at first laying, and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks are included in moderate diversity. In contrast, the diversity of egg production is included in high diversity. Based on the correlation of body weight, age at first laying, egg production, and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks, age at first laying is the selection variable that can be used as a good predictor of egg production performance. In conclusion, the study results show that a longer age of first laying can be used as a selection variable to increase the production and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks.

Abstract

Kamang duck is a local poultry germ plasm of West Sumatra originating from Tilatang Kamang District. The number of 31 students from various faculties held in this program. This activity aims to provide a technology package of mating systems and management of hatcheries to improve the productivity of Kamang duck. in addition it also provides training for the processing of eggs and un productive Kamang duck to become innovation product like rendang egg and rendang suir, and feed processing technologies base on locally sourced. The final goal was to increase productivity, and efficiency of processing livestock feed costs for the development and preservation of germplasm Kamang duck well as an increase in the income of livestock in Koto Kanagarian Tangah District of Tilatang Kamang. The method used in this service program is counseling, demonstration, training, coaching and the provision of technological packages, as well as observation and evaluation and data collection to measure the parameters of the success of the programs. The implementation of KKN PPM starts from pre-KKN, survey and implementation in the field for 40 days, starting from 14th July until 14th August 2017. The result of activity got very positive response from society, government and related offices. KKN-PPM program activity was conducted on four region in Koto Tangah village Tilatang Kamang, Agam District of West Sumatra, namely "jorong Aua, jorong Baringin, Jorong Pandan dan Luak Tunggang Giriang-Giriang". Community service activities are carried out in farmer groups of got a good response from the village government and farmers in this village. Perternak urgently need practical knowledge that can support their farm businesses, such as hatcheries, processing of livestock products to increase the income of farmers. Hatchability of Kamang duck eggs about 75%, knowledge of selecting and hatching in Aur Mekar and Svarbnabhumi Livestock Group in Nagari Tilatang Kamang is needed because this group has the potential for producing livestock breed of Kamang duck if it can apply good farming techniques appropriate to the local environment.
