Abstract

ABSTRACT The activity was carried out to determine the health status of qurban animals and the worthiness of the qurban meat during eid al-Adha in Manokwari Regency through antemortem and postmortem examinations along with the application of health protocols during the Covid-19 pandemic. Six hundred fifty-six beef cattle were examined. The antemortem examination includes the observation of the general condition, eye mucosa, anus, and fecal matter. The liver and rumen were examined through direct observation (inspection) of the presence of worm parasites. Covid-19 health protocol observations were carried out on butchers, meat officers, and the facilities around the activity. The data were analyzed descriptively and presented in percentages and figures. The average Body Condition Score (BCS) of the cattle was 3 to 4. The locomotion and skin turgor was normal. In general, the examined meat was fit for consumption. The eye mucosa color in the examined cows was pink. The anus condition of all the cows examined is clean and the stool consistency is soft. A total of 106 livers (16.16%) had fasciolosis and 89 rumens (13.57%) were positively infested with Paramphistomum sp. Most of the slaughter places have implemented health protocols with body temperature checks, washing their hands when entering the slaughtering area and most of the workers have to wear a mask. Abstract

Cuscus is an arboreal animal whose habitat is in the forest with the type of food consumed are fruits, leaf shoots, and agricultural plants. Animal manure can also be used as organic fertilizer for forage plants. This study aims to determine the growth response of Setaria grass (Setaria sphacelata) given a dose of cuscus manure fertilizer with banana and avocado consumption. The study was designed in a CRD with 3 treatments. The treatments were P0 = without fertilizer (100% soil), P1 = 40 g/polybag of cuscus manure with banana consumption, and P2 = 40 g/polybag of cuscus manure with avocado consumption. Planting is done by pols on polybags measuring 30 x 25 cm. The results showed that the highest plant height of Setaria grass was found in P2 with an average of 101.70, then P1 was 101.47 and P0 was 71.16 cm/week. The results were the same for the number of leaves and tillers, P2 showed significantly higher results (P<0.05), followed by P1 and control. The application of organic fertilizer of cuscus manure with the consumption of bananas and avocados can increase the growth of Setaria grass.

Abstract

Abstract  Animal slaughter house (RPH) are very important in maintaining food safety and play an important role in the supply chain for meat needs. There are several stages in the slaughtering process at the abattoir that are often ignored or do not pay attention to the rules of animal welfare and also animal welfare before slaughtering will have an impact on the quality of the meat produced. The purpose of this study was to assess the application of animal welfare at the Manokwari abattoir, especially in slaughtering bali cattle. This study used a purposive sampling method with a total sample of 50 bali cattle which were observed from animals unloaded from trucks to the shelter and 100 cows were observed during the slaughtering process. The results of the data obtained from the inspection of the stages starting from the cow being unloaded from the blank car to being slaughtered, then the results were recorded in a questionnaire sheet. The results showed that 63.63% of the process of dropping animals from trucks to herding had met the requirements for animal welfare. Meanwhile, the process of preparation for slaughter until the assessment of animal death (separation of the animal's head and legs) meets the animal welfare requirements of 38.87%. The results of this study concluded that most of the principles of animal welfare have not been maximally implemented by the Manokwari abattoir for several processes of slaughtering cattle. Key words: Animal Welfare; Bali Cattle; Manokwari; Slaughterhouse   Abstrak  Rumah Pemotongan Hewan (RPH) sangat penting dalam menjaga keamanan pangan sehingga memegang peranan penting dalam mata rantai pengadaan kebutuhan daging. Abstract

ABSTRACT The existing biogas has not been utilized by all group members due to several problems, including the clogging of the gas valve in the reactor, and the leaking of storage which has not been handled independently by the community. Livestock health management is an obstacle for farmers in Jandurauw. Inspection of biogas installations is carried out by directly observing the condition of the equipment and followed up with training to handle the problem. Animal health is carried out by observing the condition of livestock and handling through the provision of drugs and vitamins. In addition, counseling is also carried out to introduce the use of traditional medicines that can be given to livestock. Members of the Jandurau livestock group can handle the problem of damage to the biogas installation and also understand the use of traditional medicine in livestock  Keywords: Bali cattle; Biogas; Jandurauw village    ABSTRAK  Biogas yang ada belum dimanfaatkan oleh seluruh anggota kelompok, berbagai kendala seperti tersumbatnya kran gas pada reaktor biogas dan bocornya storage belum mampu ditangani secara mandiri oleh warga masyarakat. Abstract

The study aimed to descriptively capture livestock production and food waste and the suitability of border farms in the lowland Merauke region. Data were analyzed on livestock population structure (individual/ST), food crop waste production (dry weight, DW), capacity, and location quotient (LQ), and SWOT. Food crop waste production is 350 thousand tons of DW and so far only provided for ruminant cattle about 11%. Food crop straw waste is still dominated by rice straw (97%), followed by corn waste (2%), sweet potatoes, and peanuts. The capacity to increase the cattle population is close to 315 thousand ST. The LQ value of both livestock and food crops in Merauke is still in the range of 0 -<1 and is still a prospective sector to be optimized. The results of SWOT analysis conclude that the S-O strategy is the intensification and expansion of livestock commodities. Abstract

Abstract  This study aims to determine the process of supply and physical quality of pork in Manokwari. The research was conducted at places of slaughtering, pork selling places, and Animal Health Sub-Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, UNIPA. This research is an observational study with a qualitative exploratory survey method. Place of slaughtering and pork selling places are determined using accidental sampling technique, determination of pork samples by purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out descriptively, and qualitatively, data tabulation using the Microsoft Excel program. The results showed that there were 6 places where pigs were slaughtered which were carried out in pig pens, not in RPB (pork abattoir), where selling pork was carried out incidentally on the side of the main road, the slaughtering stages caused stress before slaughtering so that 33% of the pork experienced Dark Firm Dry and 16% of the pork experienced Pale Soft Exudative after cutting. Conclusion: pig slaughtering is not carried out in RPB, pork selling places are not in special locations, the process of slaughtering pigs creates stress and the stages of slaughter are different from the SOP in abattoirs. The quality of the pork is good but there is a change in the colour of the meat to DFD and PSE, pork is suitable for consumption but there is no guarantee of food safety because there is no antemortem and postmortem inspection so it is not certified. Keywords: DFD; Manowari; Physical Quality; Pork;PSE   Abstrak  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses penyediaan dan kualitas fisik daging babi di Manokwari.
