Abstract

Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri (SMKN) 2 Payakumbuh is one of the vocational high schools that offers various areas of expertise, one of which is Electrical Power Installation. This program aims to produce graduates who are ready to work and competent in the field of electrical power installation. SMKN 2 Payakumbuh is committed to conducting quality and optimal learning processes to achieve its goal of producing graduates who are well-prepared and skilled in their fields. However, there are some challenges in the learning process within the Electrical Power Installation expertise, particularly in the subject of Motor Installation. According to the latest curriculum, new material has been added to the motor installation subject, specifically motor control using a speed drive device. However, the school lacks sufficient laboratory equipment to support this practical material. Additionally, the teachers' competence in motor control using Variable Speed Drive (VSD) devices is still limited, which hinders the learning process from being fully effective. Several actions were taken to address this issue, including creating a motor control trainer based on VSD and conducting training to enhance teachers' competencies in motor control using VSD. This initiative was carried out in four stages: (1) Planning; (2) Preparation; (3) Implementation; and (4) Evaluation and reporting. As a result of these efforts, the teachers' competence in motor control using VSD has improved.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of learners' initial ability and interest on learning outcomes in project-based learning (PBL). With the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, it is a systematic research approach to identify, evaluate, and analyze literature or research relevant to a particular topic in an objective and structured manner. This study analyzed 35 journals that discussed the effect of initial ability and interest on student learning outcomes in project-based learning. The results show that higher initial ability makes it easier for students to absorb the material and develop practical skills such as problem solving. On the other hand, high interest encourages students' active engagement and motivation in the project, which contributes to improved learning outcomes. This study also identified that a mismatch between students' initial abilities and the PjBL approach can reduce the effectiveness of learning. These findings provide important insights for educators to design more effective learning that adapts to students' needs, and support more comprehensive curriculum planning. Project-based learning is expected to enhance 21st century skills such as creativity, collaboration and problem solving, which are relevant to prepare students for real-world challenges.

Abstract

Clean water is one of the most vital needs for a mosque. Clean water is generally taken from wells using electric water pumps. The use of water pumps is often a problem in areas where the electricity network is often off, as happened in the Raya Mosque of Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan District, Agam Regency. To overcome this problem, a solar automatic water pump is designed which is equipped with a battery as a backup power supply and one phase inverter to convert the solar panel voltage to alternating voltage according to the voltage of the water pump motor. The water pump automation is designed using a floating switch installed in a water tank. This solar water pump is implemented using a 300 wp solar panel, a 90 Ah battery and a 1200 Watt inverter. This solar water pump is also equipped with a solar charger for charging and discharging batteries. Field test results show that the automatic solar water pump proposed in this service program has been working properly according to the plan.
