Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that mostly affects people of productive age and the elderly today. Hypertension is called the silent killer because it is often without complaints, so the patient does not know he has hypertension, and prevention efforts cannot be carried out as early as possible with the causative factors of hypertension caused by several risk factors, one of which is based on the host/human. This study aims to determine the relationship of family history of hypertension, physical activity, obesity, and smoking to the incidence of hypertension in the Work Area of the Rapak Mahang Health Center. This type of research is analytic with a cross-sectional approach and the sampling technique is purposive sampling. Collecting data using a questionnaire with a number of respondents as many as 128 people. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of data analysis showed the frequency of hypertension sufferers among as many as 99 people (77.3%). The bivariate test showed statistically significant results between the variables of family history of hypertension (p-value = 0.003), obesity (p-value = 0.000), and physical activity (p-value = 0.019) with the incidence of hypertension. The smoking variable (p-value = 0.361) statistically showed no relationship with the incidence of hypertension. There is a relationship between a family history of hypertension, obesity, and physical activity with the incidence of hypertension and there is no relationship between smoking and the incidence of hypertension.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This article discusses issues related to measles-rubella vaccination from the perspective of epidemiology, immunology, and ethical challenges faced. Measles and rubella are infectious diseases that have the potential to cause extraordinary events (KLB) throughout the world, including Indonesia. Although measles-rubella vaccination has been proven effective in reducing the incidence of the disease, challenges such as low vaccination coverage due to the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine hesitancy, and ethical issues related to parental consent and equal access to vaccines are significant obstacles. Research shows that to achieve effective community immunity, a vaccination coverage of at least 95% is required. This article also describes the immunological processes involved in the response to measles and rubella infection and the importance of public health efforts in increasing awareness and access to vaccines. With a comprehensive and inclusive approach, it is hoped that existing challenges can be overcome and community participation in vaccination programs can be increased. Collaboration between the government, health institutions, and the community is essential to create a healthier and safer environment, ultimately supporting the goal of eliminating measles and rubella in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

Nutritional challenges during early childhood remain a pressing global concern that significantly influence a country’s Human Development Index. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and risk of undernutrition-related health problems among toddlers in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province. Using a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach, data were collected from four integrated community health post (Posyandu) located across three sub-districts. The study population comprised toddlers attending Posyandu in West Balikpapan, Central Balikpapan, and South Balikpapan. A purposive sampling technique was applied based on predefined criteria, yielding a sample size of 78 toddlers. Findings revealed that from 78 toddlers, 11,5% toddlers were at risk of malnutrition, 20,5% toddlers were at risk of undernutrition, and 2,6% toddlers were at risk of stunting. These findings highlight the urgent need for targeted preventive interventions to address undernutrition risks in early childhood and offer valuable evidence to support regional health policy development. Prenatal interventions, including maternal supplementation and antenatal care are crucial. Exclusive breastfeeding remains essential but should be supported by broader strategies addressing complementary feeding and maternal conditions. Longitudinal studies are recommended to establish causal pathways.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of preventive health protocols, especially for high-contact occupations, such as online motorcycle taxi riders. However, adherence among these riders is inconsistent, particularly in economically constrained regions, such as Samarinda, a buffer zone for Indonesia's new capital. This study examined the influence of supporting and hindering factors on COVID-19 protocol compliance. A cross-sectional design was employed with 87 riders selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation to assess the relationships between influencing factors and compliance levels. Economic barriers, especially high personal protective equipment (PPE) costs (46%), hindered protocol adherence, whereas supporting factors such as leadership and workplace-provided PPE showed no statistically impact on compliance. This finding suggested that financial constraints were the primary barrier, outweighing institutional support. Therefore, targeted financial assistance and strengthened public health policies are recommended to improve compliance. Enhancing community-level awareness and providing PPE subsidies could reinforce adherence and reduce transmission risk in high-contact occupations.
