Abstract

The study was to describe the ability of the eighth graders' mathematical connections to solve problems based on mathematical abilities. This type of research is a qualitative study. The subject of this study is the eighth grade 1 st student hammer with a high level, moderate ability and low capacity. The method of data collection with observation, tests and interviews through the technical data analysis phase that is the condensing of data, the presentation of data and the drawing of conclusions. The stability of mathematical connections is defined by the mathematical problem of the cube that contains the indicator of the ability of mathematics: 1) connections between mathematical concepts, 2) connections between mathematics and other disciplines, 3) connections connecting and applying mathematics in everyday life. Research shows that high-performing students are able to meet the indicator of mathematical connection capability, the gifted student only meets a portion of the mathematical competence and the underprivileged student is not yet able to meet the indicator of mathematical connection.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to profile the mathematical connection ability of students who have high mathematical abilities in the sub-topic of trigonometric equations. The research design uses a qualitative approach. The study was conducted on students of St. Andreas Palu Catholic High School. The instruments used are written assignments and interview guidelines. The results of this study show that the connection ability  of students with high mathematical ability in solving equation problems in each category includes: 1) In  the modeling connection  category, students know the information in the problem completely and precisely this is characterized by  recognize the relationship between time and trigonometry so that students can use the formulas they know to determine when the right time is so that the ship can enter the port based on known equations. 2)  In the concept connection category, students understand the concept of trigonometric equations and trigonometric comparisons in solving trigonometric equation problems. However, the subject did not understand well the interrelationship of the concept of cosine trigonometric equations with the given question so that an incorrect final answer was obtained.  3) In the category of procedure connections, students relate concepts through appropriate procedures so that they can solve trigonometric equation problems.

(2) Completion of students with high mathematical abilities in solving perpendicular line problems, namely determining the coordinate points on both lines and using the gradient formula of the line. Then connect the gradient value of the line obtained with the condition that the two lines are mutually perpendicular. After that, show the image of two lines that are perpendicular to each other. (3) Completion of low math ability students in solving parallel line problems, namely determining the coordinate points on both lines and using the gradient formula of the line. (4) Completion of students with low a mathematical ability in solving perpendicular line problems by determining coordinate points on both lines and using the gradient formula of the line.

Then solving the questions for students with moderate mathematical abilities: (1) still wrong in solving problem number 1, students do not know the correct nature of the form of dividing numbers with rank. (2) in questions number 2 and 3 the student was right in solving the problem, but the student only finished up to a simple rank. . As well as students with low mathematical abilities: (1) in question number 1 students do not use the properties in the exponential form. (2) in questions number 2 and 3 students are still wrong in solving because students do not know the properties of exponential number forms.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of solving problems of derivatives of algebraic functions. This type of research is a qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive approach based on the problem solving stages of Polya. The determination of the research subject was based on the results of daily mathematics tests for the 2021/2022 school year and recommendations from the mathematics teacher. Data collection was carried out by giving assignments and interviews. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the stages of understanding the problems of students with high, medium and low mathematical abilities are identifying problem information, namely things that are known and asked through statements and command sentences correctly. 2) the stage of making a problem-solving plan for students with high mathematical abilities uses the concept of derivatives of algebraic functions to correctly determine the speed and acceleration, students with moderate mathematical abilities are right to the wrong speed and acceleration, while students with low mathematical ability to determine the correct speed and acceleration are wrong. 3) the stage of carrying out the problem-solving plan for students with high mathematical abilities carrying out the problem-solving plan correctly, students with mathematical abilities carrying out the problem-solving plan at the right speed but not the right acceleration, while students with low mathematical ability carrying out the problem-solving plan incorrectly. 4) the stage of re-examining the problem solving of students with high mathematical abilities checked again correctly, students with medium and low mathematical abilities did not re-check their answers.
