Abstract

One area in Indonesia that is prone to disasters is the Flores Sea area, which has the potential for earthquakes to trigger tsunamis. This is due to the location of Flores, which is in a subduction zone that originates from the collision of the Indo-Australian (South) and Eurasian plates. Inaccuracies in earthquake locations are influenced by differences in residual travel time values, mathematical solutions to location problems, and inaccuracies in the seismic velocity model used. The accuracy of determining the hypocenter of an earthquake influences the location of the earthquake source, which will later be used as a reference in appropriate earthquake disaster mitigation planning. Based on this, an analysis of earthquake hypocenter data is needed, so it is important to carry out research. This research aims to relocate the hypocenter using ObsPy with a single station. The results obtained show that the Python package, namely ObsPy, can carry out data retrieval commands through filtering, detrending, normalisation, and determining data request parameters, such as the start and end times of the desired data, location, network, and data type. This research contributes to the field of seismology because the process of determining the hypocenter requires a relatively short time. Apart from that, the accuracy obtained also provides accurate values.

Abstract

This research discusses an analytical approach to suspension bridge accidents focusing on eigenvalue characteristics. This research uses eigenvalue analysis to explore patterns that may contribute to bridge structural failure. The analysis steps include reducing the model to an uncoupled and linear system, as well as determining homogeneous and non-homogeneous solutions, which helps identify accident-prone patterns. The analysis results also reveal significant differences in dynamic characteristics between safe bridges and those that experience accidents. This research highlights the importance of a deep understanding of eigenvalues in designing, maintaining, and managing suspension bridges. The implication of this research is the development of more effective prevention strategies to improve suspension bridge safety in the future. By analyzing eigenvalues, this research provides deep insight into the factors that influence the stability of suspension bridges. These findings provide a strong foundation for developing recommendations for more effective design, maintenance, and management of suspension bridges. The conclusions of this research can help improve the safety and reliability of suspension bridges worldwide and contribute to civil engineering and infrastructure security.

Abstract

Pollutants in the air have a detrimental effect on both human existence and the environment. Because it is closely linked to climate change and the effects of global warming, research on air quality is currently receiving attention from a variety of disciplines. The science of forecasting air quality has evolved over time, and the actions of different gases (hazardous elements) and other components directly affect the health of the ecosystem. This study aims to present the development of a prediction system based on artificial intelligence models using a database of air quality sensors. This study develops a prediction model using machine learning (ML) and a Decision Tree (DT) algorithm that can enable decision harmonization across different industries with high accuracy. Based on pollutant levels and the classification outcomes from each cluster's analysis, statistical forecasting findings with a model accuracy of 0.95 have been achieved. This may act as a guiding factor in the development of air quality policies that address global consequences, international rescue efforts, and the preservation of the gap in air quality index standardization.

Abstract

This study seeks to determine whether the clustering method can be used to analyze Flores Sea earthquake activity. In this investigation, the BMKG Repo serves as the source for real earthquake vibration data collection. The stages of this research include preparing the data in CSV format and then preparing the data to eliminate useless data by identifying missing data. On the basis of the research data, it was determined that the K-Means and DBSCAN methods are used to determine the clustering method for analyzing earthquake activity. In addition, the data is depicted using a graphical Elbow method so that we can determine the number of clusters of aftershocks in the Flores Sea. The results of the visualization of aftershocks that followed earthquakes in the Flores Sea between 2019 and 2022 revealed three distinct groups of earthquake source depths: 33 to 70 kilometers, 150 to 300 kilometers, and 500 to 800 kilometers. In terms of the shilhoute index parameter, the K-Means algorithm is preferable to the DBSCAN algorithm when clustering results are used to analyze earthquake activity.

Abstract

This study seeks to investigate the shape of the surface of tsunami waves using the finite difference method and the effect of the damping function on the simulation of tsunami wave propagation using Matlab-based visualisation. The effect of attenuation on the propagation of tsunami waves is measured by the variation in energy. The results of the investigation indicate that tsunami waves have a transverse wave form, with waves propagating in a perpendicular direction. In the meantime, the analysis of the damping function reveals a decrease in the value of energy; this indicates that if the damping function is provided, it will have the effect of reducing the wave energy and propagation speed of tsunami waves. This modelling clearly and realistically illustrates the results of wave movement visualisation and provides insight for disaster mitigation and coastal protection.

Abstract

The failure of the suspension bridge has been known since the beginning of the bridge collapse. Most of these failures form the basis of current engineering knowledge. One of the factors of failure is human-made factors related to the calculation of the bridge estimate. This paper presents an indirect estimation method using numerical simulation using finite elements by analyzing the Fokker-Planck model when dynamic excitation is associated with bridge loads. The results show that the Fokker-Planck model's homogeneous form can take into account the solution for the bridge analysis approach. It leads to a stable state when giving mass variations to the model. The indirect estimation method using finite elements can estimate the cable tension with controllable weak damping. It can be concluded that the method in this study is more accurate and convenient for the application technique.

Abstract

The earthquake catalog notes that there have been earthquakes with Mw > 7 that hit the Flores area, three of which occurred in the Flores Sea in 1992, 2015, and 2021. Revealed that the seismic activity of Eastern Indonesia is thought to be influenced by the isolated thrust fault segment of the island of Flores and the island of Wetar. The study of the rising fault segment on Flores Island and Wetar Island helps in further understanding the fault behavior, earthquake pattern, and seismic risk in the Flores Sea region. In earthquakes with giant magneto, an aftershock can occur due to the interaction of ground movements. This research analyzes and compares the data from the evaluation of the classification algorithm and the regression algorithm. The initial stages of this research include requesting IRIS DMC Web Service data. The data is then subjected to a cleaning process to obtain the expected feature extraction. The next stage is to perform the clustering process. This stage is carried out to label dependent data by adding new features as data clusters. The following procedure divides the validation value, which consists of training and test data. The estimation results show that the classification algorithm's evaluation value is better than that of the regression algorithm. The evaluation value of several algorithms indicates this, with an accuracy rate between 80% and 100%.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze seismic data, which is then made into an infographic to map the level of tsunami hazard in the Sikka District. The research was carried out in Sikka District, East Nusa Tenggara, located between 121°55'40''-122°41'30'' east longitude and 08°22'-08°50' south latitude. The data source comes from the IRIS Earthquake Browser, and the analysis stage was carried out in two phases. The first analysis used seismic data analysis, and EQ Energy used IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) data. Meanwhile, the second analysis maps the tsunami risk by determining the tsunami hazard in areas with the potential for a tsunami. Based on the analysis of seismicity data showed that Sikka District has the potential for an earthquake accompanied by a tsunami. In contrast, the results of the EQ Energy analysis caused by the December 14, 2021 earthquake were known as the value of Ehf = 6.46 × 1014 J  and EBB = 5.48 × 1015 J. The analysis of the level of tsunami susceptibility based on the tsunami run-up height in Sikka District showed that the northern coastal area of Flores had various potentials, where the highest vulnerability level was in the Alok subdistrict and parts of Talibura. Meanwhile, the area with the lowest potential was the Kewapante subdistrict.

Abstract

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki since December 2023, the eruption status has increased, with a substantial increase in November 2024. This led to modifications in the distribution of temperature, the patterns of volcanic material flow, and the morphology of the land. The objective of this research was to examine the relationship between the elevation profiles and temperature fluctuations that occurred during the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. This investigation illustrates the considerable impact of volcanic activity on the environment by employing satellite data-based methodologies, digital elevation models (DEMs), and thermal analysis. The results suggest that volcanic activity has a significant impact on the distribution of temperature and the alteration of geological structures. The observed temperature increase, which extends from the crater to the slopes and lowlands, has an impact on local ecosystems and atmospheric conditions. The precipitous elevation profile significantly impacts the flow pattern of volcanic material, such as lava and lahars, which can pose a disaster risk to settlements and community activities in the vicinity. This research underscores the necessity of ongoing monitoring for risk mitigation and community preparedness in volcanic disasters.
