Abstract

Macroalgae or known as seaweed is one of the potential resources and is responsible for primary productivity in marine waters. Macroalgae plays an important role in marine ecosystems, provides food, oxygen, and habitat for several types of marine biota. Moreover, macroalgae have been reported as renewable resources in marine environment and widely used in various fields. The biodiversity and abundance of macroalgae are strongly influenced by aquatic environmental factors. Lemukutan Island is the largest inhabited island located in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan and has the potential natural resources, including macroalgae. This Island can become a center for producing macroalgae that can be used to meet food needs both locally and domestically. The main objective of this study were to determine the community structure of macroalgae and the condition of the environmental physico-chemical parameters. The sampling locations were carried out in-situ at three stations and the determination of the sampling site was done by purposive random sampling method, by selecting an area based on the presence of macroalgae. The sampling of macroalgae was carried out using a quadratic transect with size of 10x10 m2 and the water quality parameters were measured using the AZ 8603 of WQC instrument. The study found 6 genera of macroalgae, such as Caulerpa, Halimeda, Padina, Turbinaria, Sargassum, and Gracillaria. Among the identified macroalgae, Phaeophyceae have the highest per cent contribution (50%), and Padina had the highest abundance (29.84 ind/m2). Lemukutan Island waters had a moderate level of diversity, high macroalgae uniformity, and dominance index in the low category. The aquaatic environmental factors influenced the abundance of macroalgae in Lemukutan Island waters.

Abstract

Complementary foods for breast milk (MPASI) are additional foods given to babies at the age of 6 months. The still high prevalence of stunting cases in Indonesia is a strong warning to always try to promote prevention efforts. The aim of this community service activity (PKM) is to educate residents of the Southeast Pontianak Subdistrict, Pontianak City in processing MPASI porridge so that toddlers have adequate sources of protein, carbohydrates and fat and are free from cases of stunting. The activity was attended by 30 participants consisting of housewives and young women. Delivery of activity material by means of an educational lecture followed by a demonstration of making MPASI porridge in a participant participatory manner. The results of the activity evaluation showed that there was an increase in the ability of activity participants in cooking MPASI porridge as well as an increase in understanding regarding stunting including the causal factors and prevention efforts

Abstract

Sargassum sp. adalah salah satu anggota makroalga coklat yang belum banyak dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat pesisir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan aktivitas sitotoksik dan antibakteri ekstrak metanol Sargassum sp. asal perairan pulau Kabung. Aktivitas sitotoksik dilakukan menggunakan metode brine shrimp lethality test, sedangkan aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi, menggunakan 2 bakteri yaitu Echerichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak metanol tidak bersifat sitotoksik, dengan hasil pengujian sitotoksik (IC50) diperoleh sebesar > 1000 ppm. Ekstrak metanol Sargassum sp dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri E. coli tetapi tidak menghambat bakteri uji S. aureus. Zona hambat ekstrak metanol Sargassum sp adalah sebesar 14,59 mm.

Abstract

Teluk Bengkolan (Kabupaten Kubu Raya, Kalimantan Barat) merupakan kawasan laut semi tertutup (estuaria) serta memiliki kondisi ekosistem mangrove sangat baik dan memiliki potensi ekonomi yang sangat tinggi. Meskipun demikian, terdapat dilema yang membebani usaha peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat pesisir Teluk Bengkolan. Peran Program Studi Ilmu Kelautan Universitas Tanjungpura (PSIK Untan) menjadi sangat penting dalam mengatasi dilema ini. Dan untuk mengakomodir tridharma tersebut, PSIK Untan membuat program inovasi wisata pendidikan bertajuk Pelayaran Estuari Kubu Raya (Estuary Kubu Raya Cruise) yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan ekonomi masyarakat melalui wisata dan upaya konservasi melalui penyadartahuan khalayak. Kegiatan Pelayaran Pendidikan ini dilakukan dengan melibatkan berbagai pihak dan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 13 – 15 Oktober 2023 di Estuari Teluk Bengkolan, Kabupaten Kubu Raya, Provinsi Kalimantan Barat. Pihak yang terlibat dalam kegiatan ini, yaitu dosen dan mahasiswa PSIK Untan, Yayasan Webe Konservasi Ketapang, Lembaga Pengelola Hutan Desa Sugai Nibung, Pemerintah Kabupaten Kubu Raya, dan KM Arif Azam Jaya. Pelayaran yang berlangsung selama 3 hari 2 malam memberikan pengamalan belajar bagi peserta pelayaran. Manfaat dari kegiatan ini tidak hanya diperoleh peserta namun juga masyarakat Desa Sungai Nibung. Pelayaran memberi dampak pada peningkatan minat peserta dan masyarakat untuk menjaga dan mengelola lingkungan berkelanjutan serta membuka peluang peningkatan ekonomi bagi masyarakat.

Abstract

Sampah plastik yang terdapat di perairan bukan hanya diproduksi oleh aktivitas rumah tangga di pesisir. Aktivitas di darat yang menghasilkan plastik sebagai buangan atau limbah dalam jangka waktu yang lama, dapat terbawa oleh ombak atau angin, dan limbah tersebut masuk ke badan perairan sungai serta akhirnya bermuara di tepi pantai. Tingginya jumlah sampah plastik yang masuk ke perairan memiliki dampak buruk pada biota perairan, yang secara signifikan akan menurunkan kualitas lingkungan perairan serta produktivitas hasil perikanan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya untuk meminimalkan pembuangan limbah plastik ke perairan, salah satunya melalui pengedukasian siswa atau pelajar sekolah dasar secara dini melalui kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM). Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan kualitas lingkungan perairan dengan mensosialisasikan slogan "Jaga Laut Kita dari Sampah Plastik". Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk menanamkan sikap bertanggung jawab terhadap kebersihan dan kesehatan lingkungan, mengurangi penggunaan kemasan sekali pakai, menggunakan wadah kemasan isi ulang, memisahkan sampah plastik (anorganik) dari sampah organik yang cenderung basah atau lembab, dan berupaya mendaur ulang limbah plastik yang sudah dikumpulkan. Mitra dalam kegiatan ini adalah Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN) No 13 Jeruju Besar, yang terdiri dari 26 anak siswa kelas 3. Kegiatan PKM berjalan lancar, dan evaluasi dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan peserta antara sebelum dan setelah kegiatan, seperti yang terindikasi dari hasil penilaian kuesioner yang diisi oleh peserta. Promotion to Quality Improvement of the Aquatic Environment through the program of Save Our Sea from Plastic Waste Plastic waste found in waters is not only produced by household activities on the coast. Activities on land that produce plastic as waste or waste for a long time, can be carried away by waves or wind, and the waste enters river water bodies and eventually ends up on the beach. The high amount of plastic waste that enters the waters has a negative impact on aquatic biota, which will significantly reduce the quality of the aquatic environment and the productivity of fishery products. Therefore, efforts are needed to minimize the disposal of plastic waste into waters, one of which is through educating students or elementary school students early through community service activities (PKM). The aim of this activity is to improve the quality of the aquatic environment by socializing the slogan "Keep Our Sea from Plastic Waste". This activity aims to instill a responsible attitude towards cleanliness and environmental health, reduce the use of single-use packaging, use refillable packaging containers, separate plastic (inorganic) waste from organic waste which tends to be wet or damp, and attempt to recycle the plastic waste that has been collected. . The partners in this activity were Public Elementary School (SDN) No. 13 Jeruju Besar, which consisted of 26 grade 3 students. The PKM activities ran smoothly, and the evaluation of this activity showed an increase in the participants' abilities between before and after the activity, as indicated by the results assessment of the questionnaire filled out by the participants.
