Abstract

Background: Buerger Allen Exercise (BAE) and Self-Thai Foot Massage (STFM) are strongly recommended ameliorating Diabetes Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) symptoms. Nevertheless, there is lack of evidence on the combination of both on alleviating DPN symptoms and Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI). Aims: This study aimed to examine the combination effect of BAE and STFM on symptoms of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and ABI among individuals with DPN. Methods: The research design used an experimental one-group with pre-test and post-test design. In total, 36 eligible individuals with DPN with a seven-day received combination of BAE and STFM implementing ankle exercise and foot massage. DPN scores were measured using the Michigan Screening Instrument (MNSI) questionnaire and foot perfusion was measured using the ABI. An analysis of the research data was conducted using the Paired t-test and effect size with Cohen’s d with a significance threshold of p >0.05. Results: There are a significant finding combination of BAE and STFM on MNSI subjective (mean diff=-2.78, p=>.001, d=0.71), MNSI objective (mean diff=-1.60, p=>.001, d=0.38), ABI left (mean diff= 0.01, p=>.001, d=0.51), and ABI right (mean diff=0.07, p=>.001, d=0.59). Conclusion: The finding of this study indicates that a combination of BAE and STFM is a feasible alternative therapy for ABI and MNSI in patients with DPN.

Abstract

Gender differences and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)-associated inflammatory biomarkers are correlated with high levels of anxiety. However, no study has investigated gender differences and high level of white blood cells (WBC) on anxiety among participants with T2DM in Indonesia. We examined the roles of gender and WBCs on anxiety symptoms in T2DM. A cross-sectional study was performed on 294 patients with T2DM recruited from five community clinics with multistage cluster sampling. Depression, anxiety and Stress-21 (DASS-21) a standardized questionnaire was used to measure anxiety and WBCs was determined using an XP-100 automated haematology analyzer. The adjusted coefficients beta (coefficient Beta) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were performed using a multiple linear regression model. Statistical analyses were calculated using SPSS version 25.0, with a p-value of less than 0.05 set as statistically significant. Females exhibited significantly higher levels of anxiety (Beta=0.26, 95% CI=0.07–0.94) than male respondents. Notably, respondents with WBCs of ³7.576 had significantly higher anxiety (Beta=2.04, 95% CI=1.12–3.71) than patients with WBCs of less than7.576. There was high prevalence of axienty symptoms in this Indonesian sample of respondents. Female and high level of WBCs exist on increasing susceptibility to anxiety symptoms among individuals with T2DM.Abstrak: Perbedaan jenis kelamin dan biomarker inflamasi terkait diabetes mellitus tipe 2 (T2DM) berkorelasi dengan tingkat kecemasan yang tinggi.

Abstract

Evaluating a male nursing student's satisfaction with their educational major is an effective preventive measure to prevent them from dropping out or transferring to another major. However, there is limited research that focuses on identifying major satisfaction risks among male nursing students. This study aims to investigate the major satisfaction of male nursing students, specifically focusing on gender role stereotypes, patriarchal beliefs, and spirituality. A cross-sectional study was conducted with male nursing students (n = 113). The researchers used the Gender Role Stereotypes Inventory, the Patriarchal Belief Scale, the Brief RCOPE, and the Academic Major Satisfaction Scale. The adjusted coefficients beta (coef. β) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were estimated using multiple linear regression, Pearson correlation and independent t-test were performed. This study demonstrated that gender role stereotypes (β = -0.05; -0.08 to -0.02), patriarchal beliefs (β = -0.05; -0.08 to -0.01), and spirituality (β = 0.11; 0.06 to 0.15) significantly correlated with major satisfaction. Spirituality was found to increase major satisfaction. Meanwhile, gender role stereotypes and patriarchal beliefs reduced the participants’ major satisfaction. Future interventions should incorporate strategies to modify detrimental gender norms and patriarchal beliefs and enhance the spiritual resources of male nursing students to improve major satisfaction.
