Abstract

Abstract

Kata kunci: Aktivitas listrik jantung, EKG, latihan fisik aerobik, henti latih    AbstractBackground: Aerobic training have long been known to give a good impact to body, aerobic training if been done routinely and with long period of time will make remodeling process to the heart. This remodeling process is not only occur in structure but also in heart electrical activity, several study reveal that this electrical activity may cause many form of aritmia, there also evidence that structural remodeling that also cause electrical changes is a persistent process, if structural remodeling persistent process, what will happen to heart electrical activity of this persistent structural remodeling after detraining is still less known. Methods: Electrocardiogram (ECG) is conducted in male Wistar rat that have completed 4 weeks, 12 weeks aerobic training, 4 weeks and 12 weeks aerobic training with 4 weeks detraining. The speed that been use is 20 m/minute with 20 minute training duration and 90 second intermitten resting interval for every 5 minute training. Results: There is no difference for P wave voltage and duration in all groups. R wave voltage is increase in 4, 12 weeks aerobic training group (p < 0.05). There is no significant difference for R wave voltage in detraining group. PR segment and interval is prolonged in 4, 12 weeks aerobic training group (especially in 4 weeks aerobic training group, p < 0.05). There is no significant difference for PR segment and interval in detraining group. Ventricular repolarization time (T wave duration, QT interval) is prolonged in 4, 12 weeks aerobic training group (especially in 4 weeks aerobic training group, p < 0.05). There is no significant difference for T wave duration and QT interval in detraining group. Resting heart rate is lower in 4, 12 weeks aerobic training group (especially in 4 weeks aerobic training group, p<0.05). There is no significant difference for resting heart rate in detraining group. Conclusion: Male Wistar rat heart electrical activity (QT interval, PR interval, T wave duration time and R wave voltage) and resting heart rate change after 4 weeks and 12 weeks aerobic training. Detraining restore that changes. Keywords: Heart electrical activity, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Aerobic training, Detraining Keywords: Heart electrical activity, ECG, Aerobic training, Detraining

Abstract

Background: Consumers have the right to consume safe and healthy fresh milk. One of the factors that affect the productivity and quality of milk is the altitude of the location and environmental conditions around the farm. Objective: This research aimed to determine the differences in microbial quality and the somatic cell count (SCC) in milk between farms in the highlands (Cijeruk Farm, Bogor) and lowlands (Pondok Ranggon Farm, East Jakarta). Methods: This study observed the total plate count (TPC), the number of Staphylococcus aureus, and SCC. Microbial testing was carried out using the plate count method and the somatic cells count used the Breed method. The data were analyzed statistically using Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square. Results: The results showed that TPC, S. aureus, and SCC of milk from Pondok Ranggon located in the lowlands were higher than those of milk from Cijeruk located in the highlands. The average of TPC, S. aureus, and SCC in milk from Cijeruk were 1.6×104 ± 1.5×104 CFU/mL, 1.3×103 ± 4.2×103 CFU/mL, and 1,795,000 ± 1,838,791 cells/mL, respectively. The average of TPC, S. aureus, and SCC in milk from the Pondok Ranggon were 3.5×105 ± 1.0×106 CFU/mL, 1.7×105 ± 6.3×104 CFU/mL and 3,032,222 ± 4,348,654 cells/mL, respectively. This research showed that the location of the rearing area has relationship with S. aureus in milk (P<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that microbial status and the somatic cell count are influenced by differences in livestock areas.

Abstract

Circadian rhythm is the adaptation response of animals against light alteration that affects various behavioral and physiological responses. Bright light is a danger signal for nocturnal animals because it exposes them more to predators. This research aimed to study the changes in the behavior of rats during the partial solar eclipse (PSE) period. The PSE period occurred across Bogor, Indonesia, on 9 March 2016. The PSE started at 06.19 AM, peaked at 07.21 AM, and ended at 08.30 AM. The light level decreased since the early solar eclipse, then dropped significantly at the peak period. The activities of six mature male Sprague Dawley rats were measured using Opto-Varimex-5 Auto Track System during the PSE period. The measurements were repeated one day after the PSE period as the non-PSE period. There were significant differences (P<0.05) in stereotypic time, burst of stereotypic movement, and horizontal count in the early, peak, and end periods of the PSE period compared with the values at the same time of the non-PSE period. The activities of rats changed during the PSE period. Rats did not rest as in their normal nocturnal behavior during darkness but were more active and stressed because of the rapid change in light level during the PSE period.

Abstract

Ultrasonography is a non-invasive diagnostic tool which potential for examining carcasses periodically, cheap, easy, and accurate to demonstrate carcass characteristics, quantity and quality of meat. This study aims to predict the quality of live carcass in swamp buffaloes and river buffaloes based on age and breed by ultrasonography. Ultrasound imaging was carried out with a longitudinal and transverse point of view using a convex transducer with a frequency of 5 MHz and a depth of 180 mm. There were 10 swamp buffaloes and 10 river buffaloes that were grouped into 1-3 years (n = 5) and 3-6 years (n = 5). The result of ultrasound images appears as anechoic images of muscle and hyperechoic images of fat and bone. Carcass analysis used AUSMEAT with the regression y = 0.4546+0.1697 x with R2 of 0.9833 for marbling score and the regression y = - 0.03003+0.4217 x with R2 of 0.9933 for percentage of intramuscular fat showed that swamp buffaloes and river buffaloes aged 3-6 years had the Longissimus dorsi muscle thickness, rump muscle thickness, backfat thickness, rump fat thickness, marbling score and percentage of intramuscular fat were higher than aged 1-3 years (P<0.05). However, analysis of ultrasound images based on breed showed that swamp buffaloes and river buffaloes had the same carcass quality (P>0.05).

Abstract

Poultry especially Japanese quails are susceptible to the environmental threat that induced glucocorticoid hormone secretion. Glucocorticoids stimulate oxidative stress and a decrease in the immune system. The purpose of this research is to study the potential of silkworm extract (Bombyx mori) to overcome oxidative stress and reduced the immune system in quails that were induced with dexamethasone as glucocorticoid. Thirty-two adult quails were used and were given dexamethasone. Those quails were divided into 4 groups, four groups were given 0 mg, 0.16 mg/kg, 0.32 mg/kg, and 0.64 mg/kg of silkworm extract for each quail. The parameters that were observed are total leucocyte count, differential leucocyte count, and heterophil/lymphocyte ratio. The results are not significant compared to the groups that were not given any supplements. This study shows that the administration of silkworm extract is not effective for recovery purposes. Keywords: antioxidant, quail, Bombyx mori, dexamethasone

Abstract

Excessive energi consumption play a role in increasing blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia), due to the inability of the hormone insulin to compensate the high blood glucose levels. Blood glucose receptor found in the hypothalamus of VMH (Ventro Medial Hypothalamus) and LH (the Lateral Hypothalamus) is able to detect and change the settings for the feeding activity. The aim of this study was to obtain the relationship between high sucrose feeding on male Wistar rats of behavior and activity. This method uses Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) as an animal model. Sixteen rats were grouped into 4 treatment groups. The first group was given additional feed 20% sucrose, the second group was given additional feed 40% sucrose, a third group was given additional feed 60% sucrose, and the last as a control group. This feed given continuously for 70 days.Observation of activities conducted using Opto-varimex® auto-track system ver.4.31. The results showed an corellation between activity based doses of sucrose.

Abstract

Lombok Wildlife Park is a conservation institution located in Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat, and with specialization for wild animals including snake. This paper reports the treatment of spectacular dysecdysis in a Boa constrictor snake. The snake Boly, approximately 1.5 years old with a body weight of 8 ounces, experienced stuck eye caps or spectacular dysecdysis after an incomplete moulting process. There was swelling of the tissue in both eyes, and the boa lost appetite. Treatment was carried out by administering antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs for the first 3 days and continued with supporting supplements in the form of iron and intramuscular vitamin B12 for the next 3 days. The swollen tissue in the left eye burst and caused damage to the eye organs, whereas the dried tissue in the right eye was peeled off manually. The snake's appetite has improved again, and it wants to eat on its own.

Abstract

Elephant is Thailand’s national animal which represents three aspects: loyalty, longevity, and strength. Thai elephants are often used for deforestation and tourist activities, such as elephants, riding, and showering. This case report highlights a traumatic wound in the left foreleg nail of a showering Thai elephant. Nail wounds undergo infection and tissue necrosis. A bone fragment suspected to be part of the distal phalanges was found and confirmed by X-ray examination. However, a surgical approach is not recommended because of the high risk of sedation in elephants. Routine wound cleaning with antiseptics and topical antibiotics was performed on the traumatic wounds. The bone fragment was removed after necrosis of the surrounding tissues. The prognosis for this case was considered good based on the location and wound condition.
