Abstract

Learning strategy has an important role in English reading comprehension learning process. To comprehend the text, reading strategy focuses on students’ critical learning. The aims of the study to get teachers’ perception of SQ4R implementation in English reading comprehension learning through zoom application. The method of study used descriptive qualitative. Process of collecting data used observation and questionnaire. The data is taken from the teacher that taught English Reading Comprehension subject in semester two at English Department UIN Mataram. The data analysis used data reduction, data display, and concluding drawing. The result of finding shows that 80% showed a positive attitude towards the implementation of the SQ4R strategy in the English reading comprehension class. This can be seen also from the increase in students' reading comprehension skills. The study results have implications for the suitability of the SQ4R strategy in the reading class through online learning such as zoom

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the implementation online reading strategy on English reading comprehension learning. This strategy gave the different ways to student in understanding of the text. Because each student has been influenced by many factors in English reading comprehension learning. This study used exploratory qualitative case study. It investigated the students’ English reading comprehension skills using online reading strategy that had used both of at school and home. The technique of collecting data used interview, observation, assignment of reading report, and test. The validity of data used credibility, transferability, dependability, and conformability. The result of study found that online reading strategy gave a positive impact on students’ pattern in English reading comprehension learning both of school and home. They had a different context and collaboration in reading learning. Online reading strategy is be appropriate media to support English reading comprehension learning using internet facilitate, for example using World Wide Web. Online reading strategies improve students' understanding of the text because the reading process is done at any time through online texts that are accessed at any time.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to know the culture and religion value contains in an English textbook for junior high school. Culture and religion have integrated into each utterance that is in the textbook. The study used the qualitative approach through a content analysis method. The procedure value analysis used Byram’s theory. Data were taken from an utterance in each chapter. The result of the data analysis found that belief and behaviour have 22,8%, socialization and life cycle has 60%, stereotypes and national identity has 11,4%, and Social and political institution has 5,8%. The value that dominates in the textbook is socialization and life cycle. The material in the textbook concern to a local and simple concept.

Abstract

In general, most of the students of seventh grade have difficulties in comprehending texts. The objective of this research is to investigate whether the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC), can improve the students’ reading comprehension at a junior high school in East Lombok Regency. The participants of this research were 25 students. This research was classroom action research which was done in two cycles. The data of this research were collected by conducting observation, test, and documentation, with the criteria of minimum mastery (KKM) of 75. There were two kinds of activities observed namely the teacher’s activity and the students’ activity. The students’ ability was measured by using comprehension test. The result showed that the students successfully met the criteria of minimum mastery. It was indicated from the improvement of the students’ mean score from 67 in Cycle 1 to 81 in Cycle 2. Moreover, the teaching activities improve from 74 in cycle 1 to 94 in cycle 2. Furthermore, the students’ activity also improves from 47 in cycle 1 to 84 in cycle 2. In conclusion, CIRC method was found beneficial to improve the students’ reading comprehension, and to enhance the teaching learning process of reading.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the literary reading program on students’ reading abilities. This study also focused on improving reading skills in inferential and critical context aspects. An experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design was used in the study. 100 student from the fourth semester of the Extensive Reading Online Class was used as a sample. The researchers used a purposeful sampling method in choosing the sample in this research. This research was held at UIN Mataram's English Department from March to June 2022. Three types of data were collected during the data collection process: 1) documents, 2) observations, and 3) reading tests. The technique of analyzing data used a t-test with two samples paired. The findings of this study showed that the t-stat value is the calculated t-value, which is 7,886. While the value of P(T=t) one tail is the p-value which is 2.099 and the critical one-tail t is the t-table value which is 1.66. It means that t-stat (7.886) t table (1.66), then Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. It concluded that the literary reading program had a positive effect on the reading skills of English students. The findings show that literary works can be used as authentic teaching materials in learning to read English, allowing students to understand the meaning of reading not only at the literal level but also at a deeper level based on context.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini menggambarkan efektifitas pembelajaran berbasis daring terhadap kemampuan mahasiswa dalam memahami teks berbahasa Inggris. Pembelajaran daring yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pembelajaran yang memanfaatkan penggunaan web blog. Paparan pada artikel ini adalah bagian dari laporan penelitian tindakan kelas yang fokus utamanya adalah melihat efektivitas pembelajaran berbasis daring yang ditinjau dari dua pendekatan, yaitu perbandingan distribusi data dan uji-t pada data sebelum tindakan (pretest) dan setalah tindakan (posttest). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan kemampuan pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap teks berbahasa Inggris antara sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan web blog. Dalam hal ini, pembelajaran daring berbantuan web blog tersebut memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap peningkatan kemampuan membaca bahasa Inggris mahasiswa. Abstract: This study describes the effectiveness of online-based learning on the students’ ability to understand English-language texts. The online learning used in this study is learning that utilizes the use of web blogs. This article is a part of the report of a classroom action research which focuses on identifying the effectiveness of the online-based learning viewed from two approaches, namely the comparison of data distribution and t-test on the data before the treatments (pretest) and after the treatments (posttest). The results of the study show that there are differences in students' ability to understand English texts before and after the use of the web blogs. In this case, online learning assisted by the web blog has a positive influence on improving students' English reading skills.

Abstract

[Bahasa]: Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Yusuf Abdusatar  memiliki program unggulan yaitu kelas khusus Al-Qur’an. Pengajar yang dimiliki juga merupakan para penghapal Al-Quran. Namun manajemen pengelolaan program kelas khusus ini belum terstruktur dengan baik. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pendampingan manajemen pada pelaksanaan program kelas khusus Al-Qur’an. Kegiatan pendampingan dilakukan melalui pelatihan dan praktek langsung. Metode pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah Participatory Rural Apraisal (PRA) melalui pola pelatihan dan praktik langsung dengan strategi model pemberdayaan masyarakat partisipatif. Mitra kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Yusuf Abdusatar dengan partisipan seluruh pengasuh/pembina dan santri di MI Yusuf Abdusatar. Hasil kegiatan menyimpulkan bahwa penyelenggaraan kegiatan pendampingan manajemen pada program kelas khusus Al-Qur’an memberikan dampak yang cukup signifikan pada para pengurus lembaga pendidikan dan pengasuh santri terkait pelaksanaan manajemen program. Selain itu, para pengurus dan pengasuh santri sebagai pelaksana program kelas khusus Al-Qur’an juga mampu melakukan kegiatan evaluasi program dan penyelesaian masalah yang dihadapi selama pelaksanaan program khusus ini. Bahkan para pengasuh santri mampu menentukan metode dan teknik bimbingan bagi para santri yang aktif, inovatif dan kreatif yang berdampak pada peningkatan mutu santri. Hasil kegiatan ini juga masih bisa dilanjutkan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi para pengurus dan pengasuh santri dalam membuat perencanaan program kelas khusus Al-Qur’an ataupun program lainnya. Selain itu, tim pengabdian masyarakat juga bisa fokus pada pengembangan kompetensi teknologi digital para pengurus dan pengasuh santri sehingga mereka bisa menerapkan kemampuan itu pada manajemen lembaga. Kata Kunci: Al-Qur’an, kelas khusus, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, manajemen [English]: Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Yusuf Abdustar has a superior program, namely the Al-Qur'an particular class. The teachers are also memorizers of the Al-Quran, but the management of this program is not well structured. Therefore, this community service program aims to assist management in implementing the Al-Qur'an particular class program. Assistance activities are carried out through training and hands-on practice. The method used Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) through training and hands-on practice with a participatory community empowerment model strategy. The partner for this program is Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Yusuf Abdusatar, with the participation of all caregivers/coaches and students at MI Yusuf Abdusatar. The results concluded that implementing management assistance activities in the Al-Qur'an particular class program had a significant impact on administrators of educational institutions and caregivers of students regarding the implementation of program management. In addition, administrators and caregivers of the students as executors of the Al-Qur'an particular class program can also conduct program evaluation activities and solve problems encountered during the implementation of this particular program. Even the caregivers of the santri can determine guidance methods and techniques for the santri, which are active, innovative and creative, which have an impact on improving the quality of the santri. The results of this activity can also be continued to improve the competence of administrators and caregivers of students in planning special Al-Qur'an class programs or other programs. In addition, the community service team can also focus on developing digital technology competencies for administrators and caregivers of students so that they can apply these skills to institutional management. Abstract

This research aims to obtain students' reading habits to strengthen their English reading skills. This research uses a desciptive qualitative approach. This research examines phenomena related to students' reading habits in strengthening and improving English reading skills. The sample was 100 fifth-semester students of the English Reading Class. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The data collection process uses three types of data: 1) observations obtained to observe students' reading habits during learning activities and 2) questionnaires given to students to find out their habits outside the classroom according to their point of view and the situations they experience. The data analysis technique uses three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this research conclude that students have good reading habits in the campus environment and read a lot of books to complete their coursework. Meanwhile, reading activity at home is very low and parental support in building reading habits is also non-existent because reading activities together are not carried out at home. The results of this research also have implications for teachers' understanding of how to motivate students to have high reading habits outside the classroom and also provide authentic teaching materials so that reading activities can be done more outside the classroom.

Abstract

The objective of the present research was to know how EFL students perceive blended learning by using LMS with Moodle in speaking class at State Islamic University of Mataram especially in English Language Education Study Program. This research employed mixed method by involving 94 students as the respondents to fill out the questionnaires ítems and were invited to the interview. It is found that students positively perceive the use of blended Learning using LMS in speaking class. Most of the students chose to “agree” and “neutral” on their responses to the questions. Furthermore, through the interview, they mostly view LMS positively. It means that Learning speaking with blended learning using LMS had a good impact on them in learning process. Therefore, Blended Learning can be an alternative way in managing a learning process, especially during online learning. Challenges experienced by the students were also discussed in this study.

Abstract

The curriculum is one of the keys to the successful implementation of character education in Islamic educational institutions. Therefore, this research aims to systematically and deeply analyze curriculum management in Islamic boarding schools in the modern era. Related research results from Dimension and Scopus databases over the past 10 years are visualized, interpreted, and synthesized systematically. The results show that research on curriculum management in modern boarding schools has been widely studied in various countries in Asia, especially in Islamic-based countries. Further analysis found that modern boarding schools play an important role in shaping character and religious and cultural values that become the foundation for the development of individuals who are noble and integrated in a multicultural society. Furthermore, a curriculum that focuses on the integration between religious education, science, and the role of technology will enrich the learning experience and be able to adapt to the needs of education in the modern era. Despite facing challenges such as the digital divide and limited infrastructure, the transformational approach of pesantren that prioritizes character education and community involvement contributes greatly to sustainable development and relevant education quality. These results can serve as a reference for the development of educational policies that are more responsive to the challenges of the times, as well as provide guidance for Islamic educational institutions in adapting traditional values to the demands of modern society.
