Abstract

The income of oil palm farmers is inseparable from the selling price of palm oil, where the price fluctuates so that it will have an impact on farmers' income and will affect the food consumption of farmers and their families. Food consumption can be measured through the achievement of values, composition, food patterns and nutrition that are balanced with the Desirable Dietary Pattern (PPH) indicator in order to achieve food standards. This study aims to calculate the income of oil palm farmers, calculate the farmers' expected food pattern (PPH) score, and analyze the influence of income and the number of household members on the food consumption pattern based on PPH of oil palm farmers. This research was carried out in May – June 2024 in Bagan Sapta Permai Village, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau using a survey method. The data collection method used was an interview with a 2 x 24-hour food recall questionnaire tool and sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique of 53 farmers. The data analysis method used for this study is the multiple linear regression method to determine the influence of oil palm farmer income (X1) and the number of household members (X2) on food consumption patterns based on PPH (Y). The results of the study showed that the average income of farmers was Rp 7,512,339.62 per month with the average score of PPH-based food consumption patterns was 88,53. The income variable (X1) and the number of household members (X2) simultaneously affect the PPH-based food consumption pattern (Y). The income variable partially had an inverse effect on the PPH-based food consumption pattern and the variable the number of household members had an direct influence on the PPH-based food consumption pattern.

Abstract

The production of shallots in Demak district in 2019–2023 tends to decline and become less stable, mainly due to plant-disturbing organism attacks. Using chemical pesticides to deal with plant-disturbing organisms can damage soil and cause pest resistance, requiring environmentally friendly technologies such as insect light traps. In adopting light trap technology, it is interesting to study farmers' decision-making processes and the factors influencing them. We conducted the study in January 2024 in Demak District, Central Java, Indonesia, using survey and purposive sampling methods to identify factors influencing farmers' decision-making when using light trap technology to increase shallot productivity. The sample consisted of 165 farmers using light traps, with primary and secondary data. We used Smart-PLS 3.0 software to analyze the variable measurement using a Likert scale (1–5). With path coefficients of 0.460, 0.199, and 0.398, respectively, the study indicated that internal variables, external factors, and innovation features much influenced farmers' choice to adopt light trap technology. With a path coefficient of 0.649, light trap adoption favored agricultural productivity, hence driving a 42.1% rise in output. The model was generally good, with significant predictive power, with a GoF score of 0.65617 and an R-square value of 0.633. Therefore, this study accepts the hypotheses and finds that internal, external, and innovative aspects influence farmers' decision to utilize light traps. This study adds essential theoretical and empirical data and clarifies how smallholder farmers promote sustainable agriculture by using light traps, therefore lowering the usage of chemical pesticides.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are vital to Indonesia's economy, significantly aiding job creation and economic growth while enhancing community welfare. In Kuningan Regency, known for its agricultural strengths and superior food crops like sweet potatoes and cassava, there is substantial potential for MSME development in local food processing. However, the post-pandemic landscape has seen a decline in MSMEs, facing challenges such as limited capital, competitiveness, and human resources. This study investigates the empowerment levels of MSME food processors in Kuningan Regency and their impact on productivity. Data were collected through interviews with 114 respondents from Kramatmulya, Cigugur, and Kuningan Districts. Utilizing the Likert Scale and SPSS for statistical testing, the research reveals that MSMEs in the food processing sector are categorized as empowered and moderately empowered. Regression analysis indicates that all independent variables—input, output, and marketing—positively and significantly influence productivity, with significance values below 0.05. The findings suggest that untapped resources and market potential could enhance productivity. This study aims to inform more effective empowerment policies to bolster MSMEs in Kuningan Regency, improving their competitiveness in a challenging market.

Abstract

The development of the Kendal Industrial Estate (KIK), as part of Indonesia's national industrialization agenda, has resulted in large-scale land conversion in Wonorejo Village, Kendal. This study aims to deeply examine the transformation of fish farmers’ lives following the conversion of agrarian space into industrial zones. Employing a qualitative approach through an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) design, this research explores the subjective experiences of five directly affected farmers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that the relocation of fish ponds triggered income decline, disruption of local agribusiness supply chains, and a crisis in farmers’ social identity. Although some successfully transitioned to new occupations, adaptive inequality emerged due to differing levels of social and economic capital. Farmers who failed to adapt experienced structural marginalization and a loss of social status within the village community. These findings reflect a process of agrarian dispossession, where farmers lost access to the means of production without fully integrating into the modern industrial labor system. Moreover, the disappearance of ponds damaged the local food production ecosystem and eroded community-based values such as mutual cooperation. While KIK has delivered macroeconomic benefits, including increased investment and employment opportunities, the development remains poorly integrated with local economic systems in an equitable and sustainable manner. Based on these results, it is recommended that land conversion policies actively involve affected communities, ensure fair compensation, and safeguard the socio-ecological sustainability of rural livelihoods. This study emphasizes the need for development approaches that pursue not only economic growth but also justice and resilience for agrarian societies at the local level.

Abstract

Urban farming refers to agricultural practices conducted in urban areas, offering a wide range of benefits. The success of the Komunitas Berkebun Semarang as a platform for the residents of Semarang to learn about and implement urban farming practices is closely related to the individual characteristics of its members. This study aims to examine the influence of member characteristics such as age, educational background, training participation, family acceptance, and number of family members on the decision to engage in urban farming. The research was conducted from February to March 2025 in Semarang City. The research location was selected purposively, based on the consideration that the Komunitas Berkebun Semarang is one of the most active urban farming communities in the city. The sampling technique employed was probability sampling, specifically simple random sampling. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula, resulting in a total of 70 respondents. Data collection was carried out through interviews using structured questionnaires and field observations. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression analysis. The results of the binary logistic regression test indicate that age, educational background, training participation, family acceptance, and number of family members simultaneously have a statistically significant influence on the decision to engage in urban farming. However, partially, only educational background, training participation, and family acceptance were found to have a significant influence, while age and number of family members did not show a significant effect.
