Abstract

Dairy cooperatives play an important role in improving the welfare of member farmers. Working together increases dairy farming and farmer income. However, farmers' income is low despite rising production due to individual sales. The cooperative is expected to increase income through its role with group strength and efficiency. Cooperatives are utilized to increase income through joint milk production. This study analyzes the role of cooperatives in milk production and income generation of farmers in Semarang. The research was carried out by survey method with questionnaires as a research tool. This research was conducted in 3 cooperatives active in Semarang Regency, Andini Luhur KUD, Nusantara KSU and Mekar KUD. Sampling was carried out through the proportional quita sampling method, with 120 breeders as respondents. Data processing was carried out using path analysis as the analysis method. The average ownership of lactating dairy cows was 2,825 heads/farmer, while milk production per head per day increased to 9.92 liters. Dairy income increased from the previous year and was above minimum wage both in 2022 and 2023, which was Rp2,804,300.53 per month. The results of the path analysis show that the role of cooperatives as marketing guarantors has a major role in increasing income through milk production. Thus, to increase the income of dairy farmers, it is necessary to improve the quality of milk production and the development of cooperatives as marketing guarantors. The implementation is expected to increase the income of dairy farmers so that it has implications for the economy of the national dairy farming sector.

Abstract

The concept of urban agriculture can overcome the problem of shrinking productive agricultural land. Urban agriculture can run successfully in communities that have good social capital. This study aimed to investigate the role of social capital in urban farming success within the Dahlia Farmer Group. Conducted from December to January 2024. This research uses the methods analysis technique used is quantitative and statistical in the form of multiple linear regression. This research shows that norms have an important role in supporting the success of urban agriculture by establishing SOPs for members. The contribution of norms is essential because they create the basis for effective coordination within the group and ensure the achievement of common goals. Trust and networks have proven to be less influential because urban farming relies more on management and knowledge than on interpersonal relationships. The differences in previous studies bring newness (gap) in the research to be conducted. This study will contribute new understanding of the relationship between social capital and urban agriculture in farmer groups in urban areas, namely the Dahlia Farmer Group. Suggestions for the Dahlia Farmers Group are to prioritize strengthening norms that support urban agriculture, such as strengthening digital networks, developing mentorship, organizing social activities, establishing partnerships with external parties, and implementing a reward system.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influential factors that lead to the profitability of Tuzamurane Cyeza Cooperative members in Muhanga District, Rwanda. The assessment was carried out with a survey method using 120 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling. The respondents comprised 60 cooperative members and 60 non-cooperative members who were maize farmers, while 6 local leaders and staff of Tuzamurane Cyeza Cooperative were used as key informants. Data were then collected using questionnaires and interviews, followed by assessment using profitability calculation and multiple regression analysis. The assessment was carried out to analyze the effect of the independent variables (price of maize seeds, price of fertilizers, price of pesticides, wage of labor, maize production, and land lease price) on the dependent variable (the profitability of cooperative members of Tuzamurane Cyeza). The results showed that the profitability of 60 members was 13.8%, while a value of 4.9% was obtained for non-cooperative members. The value of the F-Critical (2.26) was less than the F-calculated (7.200) and the P-value (0.009) was below the significant level (0.05). This showed that the model developed in this study could be used in predicting the contribution of independent variables to the dependent variable. This study also showed that 1 coefficient (maize production) had a positive relationship with Tuzamurane Cyeza Cooperative members, while 5 coefficients (price of maize seeds, price of fertilizers, price of pesticides, wages of labor, land lease price) had an inverse association. Based on the results, all independent variables had an impact on the profitability.
