Abstract

The success of farmer groups in achieving their goals and the welfare of their members depends on member participation. Member participation is related to the cohesiveness of the farmer group, where higher participation leads to greater cohesiveness. This study aims to: 1) Describe the participation of farmers in the Tampirejo Makmur farmer group in Rowosari, Tembalang, Semarang. 2) Describe the cohesiveness of the Tampirejo Makmur farmer group in Rowosari, Tembalang, Semarang. 3) Analyze the relationship between farmer participation and the cohesiveness of the Tampirejo Makmur farmer group in Rowosari, Tembalang, Semarang. The research was conducted from November to December 2023 in the Tampirejo Makmur farmer group. The research location was purposefully selected, considering that the Tampirejo Makmur group is a mid-level farmer group with the largest membership of 92 individuals. The research method employed was observational. The respondents were all members of the Tampirejo Makmur farmer group. The data analysis method used was quantitative descriptive analysis, scoring the responses from the research instruments, which were then statistically analyzed to determine the levels of cohesiveness and participation, as well as the relationship between the two variables. The analysis results indicated that the level of participation among members of the Tampirejo Makmur farmer group was low. Age, education level, leadership capability, socialization intensity, and external stimuli from the government or other parties influenced participation. Age and education level had no partial effect, while leadership capability, socialization intensity, and external stimuli had a partial effect on member participation. The study suggests that farmer groups should enhance collaboration with agricultural institutions to improve participation by providing relevant agricultural information.

Abstract

Food security in Indonesia can realized when the population’s food needs are met. One of the efforts to increase food security carried out by the Food Security Agency under the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture is implementing the Sustainable Food Yard (SFY) program or Pekarangan Pangan Lestari (P2L) in Indonesia. The SFY program utilizes yards, idle land, or empty land for agricultural activities. Semarang City includes the regions that have received the SFY program since 2020. This research aims to determine the status of food security and the role of the SFY program on the food security of farm households participating in the SFY program in Semarang City—the research conduct using a survey method on 130 farm household samples. The data collection technique is in the form of interviews using a 24-hour food recall questionnaire. The data obtained was then processed using cross-tabulation analysis between energy sufficiency percentage and food expenditure shared with the Microsoft Excel application to determine the food security status of farm households. The role of the SFY program on the food security of participating farm households was analyzed descriptively. The research results show that the distribution of food security status of farm households participating in the SFY program in Semarang City is 88.46 percent food secure, 3.08 percent vulnerable, and 8.46 percent questionable. The role of the SFY program in the food security of farm households is not very significant in increasing energy consumption and reducing household food expenditure.

Abstract

The study was conducted to describe the level of farmers' participation and analyze the factors influencing their participation in adopting digital communication and information technology in farming activities. The research was carried out from July to December 2023 in Tampingwinarno Village, one of the villages in Sukorejo Subdistrict, Kendal Regency. This location was selected because the village's primary economic activities have shifted from rice farming to guava plantations accompanied by downstream industries. The respondents were active members of farmer groups engaged in agriculture especially cassava and guava products and utilizing internet access through social media for product marketing and communication among farmers. The total number of respondents was 125. Primary data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire as a reference, along with field observations. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that the average level of farmers' participation was relatively high (64.01%). Experience, equality, access, business complexity, age, and education significantly influenced participation simultaneously (p < 0.001) with an R² of 0.7549. Partially, factors like access (p < 0.001), business complexity (p < 0.05), equality (p < 0.1), and education (p < 0.1) affected farmers' participation in adopting digital communication and information technology. Farmers' participation can accelerate digitalization in the 5.0 era to enhance farmers' competitiveness.

Abstract

This study investigates the declining interest of the younger generation in agricultural careers, despite agriculture’s vital role in national economic growth and food security. Generation Z, living in the digital era, tends to prefer technology-oriented fields rather than conventional agriculture. Therefore, this research examines the influence of audio-visual animated video media as an innovation in agricultural learning to increase students’ interest and learning outcomes. The study was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Beringin, Deli Serdang Regency, which has strong potential to develop technology-based education but has not yet implemented direct agricultural learning. Using a Quasi-Experimental Design with a Nonequivalent Control Group model, the research involved 60 twelfth-grade students divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and questionnaires, and analyzed using SPSS through validity, reliability, normality, and homogeneity tests, followed by simple linear regression, t-tests, and F-tests. The results show that the use of aeroponic agriculture audio-visual animated video media has a significant influence on increasing students’ interest and learning outcomes compared to conventional methods. The integration of visual and animated elements enhances engagement, clarifies complex agricultural concepts, and provides more interactive and contextual learning experiences. Overall, this study concludes that the use of audio-visual animated video media not only improves learning performance but also strengthens the image of agriculture as a modern, innovative, and technology-based field, supporting the regeneration of future farmers in the digital era. Keywords: agriculture, animated video, audio-visual media, learning outcomes, student interest

Abstract

The development of the Kendal Industrial Estate (KIK), as part of Indonesia's national industrialization agenda, has resulted in large-scale land conversion in Wonorejo Village, Kendal. This study aims to deeply examine the transformation of fish farmers’ lives following the conversion of agrarian space into industrial zones. Employing a qualitative approach through an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) design, this research explores the subjective experiences of five directly affected farmers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that the relocation of fish ponds triggered income decline, disruption of local agribusiness supply chains, and a crisis in farmers’ social identity. Although some successfully transitioned to new occupations, adaptive inequality emerged due to differing levels of social and economic capital. Farmers who failed to adapt experienced structural marginalization and a loss of social status within the village community. These findings reflect a process of agrarian dispossession, where farmers lost access to the means of production without fully integrating into the modern industrial labor system. Moreover, the disappearance of ponds damaged the local food production ecosystem and eroded community-based values such as mutual cooperation. While KIK has delivered macroeconomic benefits, including increased investment and employment opportunities, the development remains poorly integrated with local economic systems in an equitable and sustainable manner. Based on these results, it is recommended that land conversion policies actively involve affected communities, ensure fair compensation, and safeguard the socio-ecological sustainability of rural livelihoods. This study emphasizes the need for development approaches that pursue not only economic growth but also justice and resilience for agrarian societies at the local level.
