Abstract

Pandemi global Covid-19 yang melanda seluruh dunia turut berdampak signifikan di bidang pendidikan. Salah satunya proses pembelajaran di tingkat SMA yang berubah dari kelas tatap muka menjadi kelas online, menyebabkan ada siswa yang kesulitan memahami pelajaran. Kurangnya pemahaman materi sebelumnya menyebabkan siswa kesulitan beradaptasi pada materi lanjutan pada saat kelas luring berlangsung, misalnya untuk pelajaran kimia. Oleh karena itu, untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman siswa-siswi SMA tentang kimia, dapat dilakukan melalui pendekatan kimia komputasi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan minat siswa-siswi SMA, sehingga lebih mengenal dan dapat mengoperasionalkan software kimia komputasi sebagai pembelajaran kimia yang menarik. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan metode ceramah dan praktek langsung bagi siswa-siswi. Ketua tim menyampaikan materi tentang pengantar kimia komputasi, aplikasi dan manfaat kimia komputasi dalam bidang sains, serta bagaimana pemodelan struktur molekul menggunakan program HyperChem dan Gaussian. Pada tahap praktek langsung, siswa dilatih mengoperasionalkan komputer dan memanfaatkaan software untuk mempelajari struktur molekul organik sederhana. Molekul etanol digambar oleh siswa menggunakan ChemSketch dan optimasi geometri menggunakan Hyperchem, sedangkan visualisasi molekul air menggunakan Gaussian. Setelah kegiatan pengabdian berlangsung, siswa-siswi SMA Negeri 2 Seram Bagian Barat lebih memahami konsep tentang struktur molekul dan lebih antusias ingin mempelajari kimia setelah penggunaan software kimia komputasi tersebut.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan mengusung tema peningkatan nilai ekonomis santan kelapa melalui pembuatan virgin coconut oil (VCO) merupakan salah satu bentuk kepedulian akademisi bidang kimia terhadap penyebaran informasi dan produksi produk industri rumah tangga dengan nilai ekonomis tinggi. Penyebarluasan aplikasi, prosedur pembuatan, serta prosedur pemasaran maupun pencerahan informasi dapat dilakukan untuk mengedukasi masyarakat untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan tentang produk maupun proses kimia di sekitarnya. Selain itu, secara tidak langsung, masyarakat penerima informasi ini dapat mengaplikasikannya dan menjadi produsen industri kecil berskala rumah tangga. Hal ini dapat membantu membangkitkan ekonomi nasional setelah masa pandemik. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada Masyarakat berupa pelatihan pembuatan VCO bagi Masyarakat Negeri Morella, Maluku Tengah dilakukan dengan metode demonstrasi secara interaktif dan terstruktur untuk menginisiasi creative thinking masyarakat setempat dalam memanfaatkan potensi kelapa. Peserta kegiatan merupakan tim pelatihan dan masyarakat Negeri Morella telah berhasil membuat produk VCO khas Negeri Morella.

Abstract

Keberadaan tanaman mayang di daerah Maluku Tengah cukup banyak. Pada umumnya masyarakat setempat memanfaatkan tanaman mayang hanya sebagai bahan baku pembuatan minuman tradisional beralkohol yang dikenal dengan nama sopi. Alkohol yang terkandung dalam minuman sopi tersebut dapat ditingkatkan kadar alkoholnya dengan cara redestilasi, sehingga dapat dijadikan bahan baku dalam pembuatan produk hand sanitizer. Oleh karena itu tim dosen Jurusan Kimia FMIPA Universitas Pattimura melakukan pelatihan pembuatan produk hand sanitizer berbahan dasar hasil redestilasi sopi kepada para siswa dan guru di SMA Negeri 40 Maluku Tengah. Pelatihan yang telah dilakukan meliputi redestilasi sopi, dan perhitungan formula serta demo pembuatan hand sanitizer. Diharapkan kedepannya para siswa dan guru dapat membuat produk tersebut dan dapat melatih masyarakat setempat untuk turut memanfaatkan minuman sopi sebagai bahan untuk menghasilkan produk hand sanitizer yang memiliki nilai guna untuk menjaga kesehatan masyarakat.

Abstract

Methysters from oil production waste from Banda nutmeg (Myristicafragrans Houtt) and Papuan nutmeg (Myristica Argentea Ware) go through several process stages, namely isolation of trimyristin and synthesis of methyl ester. The process of isolating trimyristin from nutmeg essential oil production waste by maceration using chloroform solvent. The transesterification process with methanol uses a CaO catalyst and ultrasonication method for 20 minutes; the results are analyzed using GCMS. The results of isolating trimyristin from nutmeg oil waste for Papuan nutmeg yielded 55.6 g of trimyristin (22.24%), which was greater than Banda nutmeg which was 49.7 g of trimyristin (19.88%). Transesterification results for Banda nutmeg oil waste obtained 28.57% soakage with a composition of 5 known major methyl ester compounds, namely methyl laurate (3.22%), myristicin (13.48%), metal myristate (53.39%), methyl Palmitate (5.24%), and Methyl Oleate (9.33%). In Papuan nutmeg oil waste, a 3.93% soakage was obtained with a composition of 5 known methyl ester compounds, namely metal myristate (19.80%), methyl arachidate (18.04%), methyl linoleate (1.42%), methyl oleate ( 48.37%), and methyl stearate (3.18%). The sonication method can synthesize methyl esters from nutmeg oil waste and gives different results for the two types of nutmeg. The results of the trimyristin transesterification of Banda nutmeg seeds and Papuan nutmeg seeds using a CaO catalyst using the sonication method resulted in a methyl ester soak of Banda nutmeg waste 28.57% and Papuan nutmeg 3.93%.

Abstract

The synthesis derivate acetophenone from fenol and eugenol had been carried out. The acylation of fenol was performed by anhydride acetate and the fries rearrangement reaction was carried out using AlCl3 catalyst at temperature of 50oC produce ortho-hydroxyacetophenone (35,29 %), purity was tested by GC, structure elucidation of these product ware analized by FTIR and 1H-NMR. Acylation reaction of eugenol was performed by anhydride acetate in base condition at temperature of 120oC for 3 h produce 5-allyl-2-hydroxy-3-metoksi acetophenone (21,42%), purity was tested by GC, structure elucidation of these product ware analized by FTIR, 1H-NMR and MS.

Abstract

Bioethanol can be produced through glucose fermentation using saccharomyces cerevisiae. Was done to make coconut water contains a small amount of carbohydrate. A researcher had taken research was done to make bioethanol from coconut water waste. The result of the research shows that coconut water fermentation with yeast has maximum speed after 70 minutes of incubation. The fermentation solution was then distilled. Bioethanol purity was about 76-80% after HPLC analysis.

Abstract

Trimyristin isolation from the nutmeg and synthesis of methylester using heterogen catalyst has been carried out in several stages, included isolation of nutmeg oil, trimyristin isolation and synthesis of methylester. The synthesis was started by isolation of nutmeg oil with steam distillation for 8 hours. It yields was 308 mL of nutmeg oil. The isolation trimyristin from nutmeg with maseration using chloroform yields trimirystin 17 g (11%), structure elusidation of these products was analized by FTIR and 1H-NMR. The synthesis methylester using CaO catalyst and methanol yields 1,78 g (89,02%) of methyl myristate. Product purity was tested by GC and structure elusidation was analized by FTIR and MS.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the yield and composition of the essential oil and ethanol extract of nutmeg leaves and determine its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Nutmeg leaf oil was obtained by isolation using steam-water distillation and extraction methods using maceration with ethanol as solvent. The moisture content of nutmeg leaves is 11.11%. From the distillation method, 0.26% nutmeg oil was obtained, while the yield of nutmeg oil was 29.01% from the extraction method. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer analysis showed that distilled nutmeg oil contains 20 components with the main composition, namely myristicin (15.92%), b-phellandrene (14.35%), limonene (11.20%), b-pinene (10.81%), and a-pinene (8.59%). The ethanol extract of nutmeg leaf contains 37 components with the main composition being myristicin (7.64%), 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7,9,9,11,11,13,13-tetradecamethylheptasiloxane (7.14%), 2,2-dimethyl-1-decanol (7.12%), bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (5.55%), and 9-dodecane-1-al (4.63%). The antibacterial activity test of nutmeg oil was carried out using the good diffusion method. The inhibitory power of nutmeg oil and ethanol extract of nutmeg leaves against S. aureus bacteria were 20.31 mm and 23.56 mm, while against P. aeruginosa bacteria were 11.79 mm and 8.86 mm, respectively.

Abstract

Calabash (Crescentia cujete) is a plant that grows in tropical climates and is scattered and easily found in Indonesia. Calabash is also known to contain several secondary metabolite compounds that have the potential as an antioxidant. This research is purposed to identify phytochemical compounds in calabash fruit seed extract, identify compounds based on the result of LC-MS, and know the antioxidant activity of calabash fruit seeds. The samples were extracted using the maceration method, and then phytochemical screening, LC-MS tests, and antioxidant tests were continued using the DPPH method. This research showed that the ethanol extract of calabash seed positive contains saponin, flavonoids, and triterpenoid compounds. Ethyl acetate extract of calabash seed contains flavonoids, alkaloids, and triterpenoids. The n-hexane extracts positively contain tannins, alkaloids, and steroids. The values of antioxidant activity of ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane extracts were IC50 = 29.7883, 7.219, and 848.712 ppm (µg/ml), respectively. Ethyl acetate extract as the best antioxidant activity was then tested with LC-MS, and results obtained from 26 compounds with the composition of the largest % area is convolvidine (11.277%), coumaroylquinic acid (8.290%) and taxchinin G (8,233%). They showed that calabash fruit seed extract has very strong antioxidant activity, with the best activity being the ethyl acetate extract of calabash fruit seed.

Abstract

Pembelajaran sains meliputi mata pelajaran IPA dan Matematika. Pada umumnya kedua mata pelajaran ini dianggap sulit oleh kebanyakan peserta didik (siswa). Banyak yang menganggap hanya orang-orang yang pintar yang belajar sains. Padahal setiap hari kita senantiasa bertemu dengan sains. Berdasarkan fenomena inilah, diperlukan suatu wadah yang dapat memunculkan rasa suka dan cinta terhadap sains, yaitu dengan cara membentuk suatu program pengenalan sains melalui demo sains khususnya eksperimen kimia sederhana. Secara umum, tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan tema: “Demo Sains Sederhana dan Aman Kepada Siswa SMP Negeri 7 Maluku Tengah” ditekankan untuk menumbuhkan minat siswa dalam mendalami sains. Melalui kegiatan ini, diharapkan dapat menjadikan seluruh siswa untuk mencintai sains. Oleh sebab itu, kegiatan-kegiatannya dirancang secara atraktif dan edukatif agar siswa merasa senang dan kegiatan-kegiatannya juga memuat materi percobaan sains dengan metode yang menyenangkan dan menakjubkan, dengan alat dan bahan sederhana, aman dan mudah didapat. Eksperimen kimia sederhana yang dilakukan meliputi percobaan balon gas, identifikasi asam basa, lem sederhana dan Telur ajaib. Kegiatan ini juga dimaksudkan untuk memperkaya pengetahuan dan keterampilan siswa tentang sains di sekolah.
