Abstract

Red betel (Piper ornatum) is an ornamental plant with potential antibacterial and antioxidant properties due to its bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, triterpenoids, saponins, and tannins. This study aimed to determine the relationship between flavonoid content, antioxidant activity, and antimicrobial activity in red betel leaves. Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE) was employed using three solvents of varying polarity: n-hexane (non-polar), ethyl acetate (semi-polar), and ethanol (polar). Total flavonoid content was determined spectrophotometrically based on flavonoids' ability to form complexes with AlCl3. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. Antibacterial and antifungal properties were evaluated through Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Zone of Inhibition (ZOI) tests. MIC was determined using the agar dilution method, while ZOI was measured using the disc diffusion method. Results showed that the 96% ethanol extract yielded the highest flavonoid content (4.748%) and the strongest antioxidant activity (IC50 = 47.185 ppm, classified as very strong). The n-hexane extract at 25% concentration exhibited the best antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans (ZOI = 17.43 mm), while the 96% ethanol extract at 25% concentration demonstrated the highest antifungal activity against Candida albicans (ZOI = 17.02 mm). In conclusion, red betel leaf extracts show promising potential as strong antioxidants and antimicrobial agents against C. albicans and S. mutans.

Abstract

This study presents a community service initiative aimed at empowering a rural community in Indonesia through training in the post-harvest utilisation of rhizomes using pharmaceutical technology, packaging design, and digital marketing. The project involved 20 participants from the Kebun Merdesa community and was conducted by a team of three lecturers and seven students from the University of Pakuan. The training was divided into several stages, including the production of herbal tea, herbal drinks, and kitchen spices, followed by packaging design using the Canva and Pacdora applications and digital marketing using social media platforms and the Buffer application. The results showed significant improvements in the participants' knowledge and skills across all areas, with increases ranging from 31% to 34% in rhizome processing, herbal product manufacturing, packaging design, and digital promotion. These findings align with previous studies that have highlighted the effectiveness of targeted training programs in enhancing participants’ competency in specialised skill areas. The integration of technical production, innovative packaging, and digital marketing has been shown to significantly impacts the economic resilience and competitiveness of small enterprises in rural areas. This initiative demonstrates a practical model for rural community empowerment that can be replicated in other agricultural areas with similar resources and challenges, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals of decent work, economic growth, and responsible consumption and production. The success of this program provides a strong argument for policy support and funding for community-based pharmaceutical product development, contributing to the resilience of rural economies against market fluctuations and climate-related agricultural risks

Abstract

Cikarawang Village, Dramaga District, Bogor Regency has a Merdesa community which engaged in plantations. This community has become UMKM but has not been able to significantly improve people's welfare. From the team's initial discussion with the Kebun Merdesa Community, information was obtained that Cikarawang Village has potential resources that has not been maximized in its empowerment, especially in downstream of Merdesa plantation products. The empowerment of youth who are involved in the downstream activities of Kebun Merdesa products will be carried out in stages of starting from socialization, consulting with the Kebun Merdesa community, establishing a micro business plan for downstream seasoning powder products, and building production facilities, along with assistances. The program is held with assistance to processing units for plantation products using pharmaceutical technology in several stages. Furthermore, assistance is carried out to the product packaging unit for seasoning spices and digital technology-based marketing units. This program  also involved educational units. Promotional media in the form of billboards and banners are made and installed in strategic locations for partners to complement this program which also serves as a means of information for the village community. This activity involved 2 lecturers and student from Pharmacy Bachelor Programwith combined the program of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) which oriented towards community service. The formation of micro-business units in Cikarawang Kebun Merdesa Village, increasing the productivity and creativity of Cikarawang Village’s youth, and also providing added value economically, socially, and culturally were implemented.

Abstract

Cikarawang Village, Dramaga District, Bogor Regency has a Merdesa community which engaged in plantations. This community has become micro/small/medium enterprises (MSMEs) but has not been able to significantly improve the welfare of the community in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose of this activity is to be able to develop the home yards of the Cikarawang Village community to be more useful, the second can increase the community's production sector, and the last is expected to increase the birth of MSMEs in Cikarawang Village. This program is also carried out in collaboration with the Kebun Merdesa Community. Herbs are the community's choice in curing diseases, and some even cultivate herbs as Family Medicinal Plants or commonly referred to as Family Medicinal Plants. The Family Medicinal Plants area around the community's yard area can easily obtain medicinal plants which are then processed into herbal medicine. This program will also involve education units. Promotional media in the form of banners, billboards, and banners will be made and installed in strategic locations towards partners to complement this program which is also a means of information for the village community. This activity involved 2 lecturers and 2 students from Pharmacy Bachelor Program with combined the program of Freedom of Learning Independent Campus which oriented towards community service. The formation of micro-business units in Cikarawang Kebun Merdesa Village, increasing the productivity and creativity of Cikarawang Village’s youth, and also providing added value economically, socially, and culturally were implemented.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is build the new normal bogor batik village which is integrated with collaborative learning, so as to create the academic triangle ecosystem. The academic triangle is cyclical in nature, which continues as an ecosystem of education, research and entrepreneurship (not only being an entrepreneur but an entrepreneurial spirit that never gives up in the face of all obstacles). This cycle involves lecturers and students who at the same time have a positive impact on improving the social economy and strengthening local culture. Hopefully, in the end, the ecosystem can become a laboratory for strengthening the academic triangle
