Abstract

The increasing interest in coffee in all circles means that coffee production and quality must always increase due to consumer demands. One way to maintain the quality of coffee beans is by breaking them down using a huller machine. This research aims to improve the optimization of coffee machines by modifying the cylinder blades of huller machines with variations of 3, 4, 5, and 7 cylinder blades in terms of static loading design and quality and production capacity of coffee bean breaking. The experiment was carried out using 400 rpm and breaking 10kg of dry coffee cherries every time the sample was taken. The research results show that the best sample collection is the variation of 3 cylindrical blades with the maximum stress and lowest deformation values of 6.67 MPa and 0.000737 mm. In terms of production quality, it shows that the best sampling was the three cylindrical blade variations with 50% whole and good coffee beans. In terms of production capacity, the most significant capacity was the seven cylindrical blade variations with a value of 294.11 kg/hour. Sampling from the four most optimal variations uses the SAW (Sample Additive Weighting) method. The most optimal result from the 4 test criteria, the variation of 3 cylindrical blades is the best because it has the highest score with a value of 0.9754.

Abstract

Cranioplasty is required for patients with head defects, where the deformed part of the head is replaced with Ti6Al4V titanium wire implants. The titanium wire forming process is usually done manually, which can take a long time and give results that do not match the anatomical shape of the head. Therefore, it is important to develop domestic technology that can produce titanium wire automatically. This study aims to analyze the frame and mold of the automatic wire mesh molding machine before production. The tool is made using press forming method and finite element analysis with ANSYS software. The machine frame is made of 304 stainless steel material, while the mold uses ABS material. The analysis was performed with a constant load force of 100 N, corresponding to the maximum reading on the load cell. The simulation results show the deformation, strain, and von Mises stress of the machine frame and punch model, which are still far below the plastic deformation and UTS values of the material. However, the analysis results on the Ti6Al4V titanium die and mesh exceeded the UTS of the material in the cutting edge area of the die. Nevertheless, the die model can still be used because the maximum stress point is located at the edge of the die design area, where the titanium mesh will be cut when applied to the patient's skull implant. The results of this study are expected to help medical personnel in skull implant surgery and analysis of press machine manufacturing.

Abstract

Indonesia still relies on the use of energy from non-renewable sources, especially oil and coal. However, the supply of energy from fossil sources is decreasing. The energy conversion process in solar panels causes an increase in temperature, especially in conditions of intense sunlight and hot weather. High temperatures can accelerate the degradation of materials in solar panels. Therefore, a cooling system needs to be developed to lower the temperature of the solar panels to produce electricity efficiently. This study aims to examine how the efficiency of solar panels can be affected by cooling fluids. The experimental method is used by setting the solar panels at an angle of 30°. Data is collected during sunny weather conditions with sunlight levels above 2000 lux. The solar panel used is a 20 WP monocrystalline type. The recorded data includes several parameters, namely current, voltage, light intensity, and solar panel temperature. The results indicated that solar panels with cooling had a lower surface temperature compared to solar panels without cooling. In addition, cooled solar panels have a higher efficiency than uncooled solar panels. Using a cooler with a certain discharge on the surface of a solar panel can increase efficiency significantly. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of eggshell catalyst (CaO) on the combustion characteristics of nyamplung oil biodiesel droplets (Calophyllum inophyllum L) on flame visualization, ignition delay, and temperature. At present, Indonesia still uses fossil fuels, namely diesel. However, over time there are alternative fuels using palm oil raw materials. However, palm oil is also used as a source of food so that it will have an impact on the scarcity of palm oil. In this study, we looked for alternative energy using nyamplung seeds (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) with catalyst weight variations of 1%, 3% and 5%. The tested droplet volume of 1 ml was placed in a type K thermocouple. The results of this study showed that the percentage of catalyst weight increased temperature and shortened ignition delay. The highest temperature and lowest ignition delay were found at a variation of 5% with the highest temperature of 679.5 °C and ignition delay of 3000 ms.

Abstract

The performance of modern racing motorcycles is greatly influenced by their aerodynamics. Slipstreaming occurs during a race when a rider closely follows another, especially on a straight track. The effect can reduce aerodynamic drag and increase the overall speed of the rider behind. This study investigates the aerodynamic effects of slipstreaming on a racing motorcycle using computational fluid dynamics. This study also considers its effect on both drag force and downforce, which affects motorcycle stability. A 3D CAD model of a racing motorcycle and a rider in a crouching position was used as the object of research. CFD simulations were carried out using the RANS Steady State solver with the k-ω-SST turbulence model. The simulations evaluated the effect of varying distances between motorcycles on slipstream performance, as well as varying motorcycle speeds. The results show the effect on drag force and downforce for the trailing motorcycle. This is due to the shielding effect of the motorcycle in front, which creates a low-pressure zone behind it. Additionally, the turbulence behind the racing motorcycle also affects its downforce. Optimizing the distance between motorcycles in the slipstream allows riders to improve overtaking performance. It also reduces adverse effects on motorcycle stability caused by the slipstream's influence on downforce. Furthermore, it can be used to develop aerodynamic modifications to racing motorcycles that can utilize the slipstream more effectively.

Abstract

Panduman Village, Jelbuk Jember District, is a fostered village by the University of Jember. Sumbercandik is one of the hamlets in Panduman Village with a geography of mountain slopes and hills and at an altitude that is very supportive for coffee farming/plantations. It is no wonder that the best coffee products are produced from this village. Ironically, the lives of many coffee farmers still fall into the pre-prosperous group. One of the reasons is that farmers sell coffee logs or wet-skinned coffee at relatively low prices. At the same time, factory-made chemical fertilizers have skyrocketed in price, and availability is strict. Various efforts have been made by the local government and other service teams related to these coffee farmers, but they have not touched those in Sumbercandik Hamlet. This community service seeks to uplift the economy of Panduman Village, especially the coffee farmers of Sumbercandik Hamlet, with the introduction of post-harvest coffee technology, utilization of coffee waste for fertilizer and briquettes, and management and cooperatives. This grant ceiling will carry out the proposal in three years. The first year was with the introduction of post-harvest technology in the form of wet and dry skin stripping (horn skin). In the second year, intensive drying techniques using technical and thermal methods. In addition, farmer group formation and simple production management. Year three, post-harvest waste processing technology. The first year's focus was on providing a coffee skin peeling machine. Each year will involve different lecturers with agricultural, management and cultural competencies. This activity is in line with the 2021-2025 RIPP of the University of Jember with the featured topic "Development of people's coffee towards an organic system to improve community welfare".

Abstract

This paper presents a community engagement initiative in Kuwon Village, Magetan Regency, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity through compost production mechanization. The project, a collaboration between university researchers and local farmers, introduced organic composting techniques using a specially designed compost chopper machine. The initiative sought to address the challenges of high fertilizer costs and limited subsidized fertilizers, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and improving farmers' livelihoods. The primary goal was to provide an efficient, cost-effective method for producing organic compost, reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers, and improving soil health. The project followed a participatory approach, involving farmers at every stage—from needs assessment to design, fabrication, training, and implementation—ensuring solutions suited to the local community's needs. The compost chopper machine reduced time and labor in compost production, and farmers reported improved soil health and higher crop yields. The project also fostered community collaboration as farmers worked together to adopt new practices. Economic benefits included lower input costs and increased income from higher productivity. The success of this initiative highlights the potential of combining technological innovation with community involvement to tackle challenges faced by rural farmers in Indonesia, promoting sustainable agricultural development and improving livelihoods.
