Abstract

An electric car is a vehicle that is driven by an electric motor, the electric motor obtains power from electricity stored in the battery. Chassis is an important component in electric cars. Chassis is part of an electric car that functions as a support system in an electric car. In the chassis there is a maximum and minimum stress called the principal stress. This principal stress becomes a reference to determine the safety of the chassis. So it is necessary to know the principal stress on the chassis. The testing process uses two drivers, each of which weighs 45 kg and 56 kg. The tests were carried out at three different points on the electric car chassis. From the results of the principal stress test, σ1 = 3.3282 MPa and σ2 = 1.5429 MPa for the 45 kg driver and σ1 = 3.8233 MPa and σ2 = 2.1123 MPa for the 56 kg driver. The principal stress on the chassis is still in a safe condition because it does not exceed the yield stress of the chassis material.

Abstract

Seiring kenaikan konsumsi energi minyak dan menurunnya cadangan minyak bumi, maka perlu beralih ke minyak nabati sebagai sumber bahan bakar terbarukan, salah satunya adalah dari biji nyamplung. Biji nyamplung banyak terdapat di desa Kebondalem, Kecamatan Bangorejo, Kabupaten Banyuwangi. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan mengenalkan potensi minyak nyamplung ke masyarakat desa tersebut. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan oleh tim gabungan dosen dan mahasiswa jurusan Mesin, Fakultas Teknik, Universitas Jember. Kegiatan berupa pengenalan potensi biji nyamplung untuk alternative bahan bakar, dilanjutakn dengan peragaan pengepresan biji menjadi minyak. Di sela-sela kedua acara teresbut diselingi tanya jawab dan diskusi. Hasil dari pengabdian ini cukup membuka wawasan warga desa yang hadir akan potensi nyamplung yang selama ini terabaikan. Tokoh masyarakat dan karang taruna siap untuk menindaklanjuti kegiatan ini dengan rencana penanaman lahan hutan desa dengan nyamplung. Perlu arahan dan kegiatan lanjutan untuk menyambut antusiasme warga desa ini.

Abstract

PG X in Jember is one of the agro-industries that processing sugar cane into sugar crystals. This factory works seasonally. To ensure the consumer demand for sugar, the sugar factory should operate efficiently during their production season. In fact, it was found that at the downtime at the boiler department at this factory was up to 181 hours for six months production period in the year 2018. This happened mainly in the bagasse conveyor section. This paper is focused on efforts to find out the cause of the high downtime and its possible solution. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) analysis was employed for measuring machine effectiveness. It is found that the lowest OEE value of 68.27% was in June, while the highest one up to 98.46% was reached in September. The most affecting factor to the low OEE value is reducing speed losses. It affected by 46% to the overall six big losses factors. Based on fishbone analysis, the main cause of the high value of reducing speed losses is lack of supervision in transporting bagasse to the conveyor. The inappropriate dimension of the scrapper (a part of the conveyor) is another reason. Therefore, it is recommended to increase supervision in transporting bagasse to the conveyor. Another recommendation is to reduce the scrapper length. Analysis of the free body diagram of this element shows that reducing its length from 1.215 mm to 1.195 mm will reduce the displacement from 6.67 mm to 4.72 mm without degrading the function of this part.

Abstract

In solar powered water heaters, solar radiation falls into and then absorbed by tube collectors which are then used as a source of water heaters for household and industrial needs. One effort to improve efficiency in solar-powered water heater systems is by adding a reflector under the collector. The main purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the reflector on the collector's efficiency during the charging period. The tube collector consists of absorber pipes, water pipes, and reflector. While the parabolic reflector is made of stainless to maximize reflection to the collector. In these experiments, the water flow was varied at 0.48 l/min, 0.59 l/min, and 1.82 l/min. Temperature measurements were carried out at several points: (i) inlet, (ii) outlet and (iii) phase change material (PCM). While radiation intensity was measured using a pyranometer. The data were compared between heater with and without the reflector. The highest collector efficiency was achieved when applying 1.82 l/minute with the maximum collector performance with reflector and without a reflector is 76.8% and 69.7% respectively. It is be concluded that the use of reflectors can increase the efficiency of tube collectors for water heaters. The outlet temperature was higher by 1.7% than the previous result when using water flow rate of 0.59 l/min.

Abstract

Material SS400 merupakan logam jenis baja karbon rendah yang biasa digunakan dalam industrikontruksi ataupun jembatan yang bersentuhan langsung dengan lingkungan sekitar. Akibatnya sifatmekanis serta mutu material SS400 akan menurun seiring waktu pemakaian. Riset lain sebelumnyamembuktikan bahwa selain memperbaiki sifat tahan korosi, electroplating mampu menaikkan sifatmekanis baja yang dilapisi. Maka perlu upaya yang serupa untuk menaikkan sifat mekanis SS400 inidengan caraelectroplating. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengoptimasi kekuatan tarik yangdiperoleh dari hasilelectroplating baja SS400 dengan pelapis nikel.Metode Taguchi L9 digunakan dengan variasi parameter kuat arus, suhu, dan waktu dengan masing-masing terdiri atas tiga level.Masingmasing kombinasi diulang tiga kali.Bahan baja dibentuk menjadi sampel uji tarik standar ASTM E8 sebelum pelapisan.Uji tarik dilakukan dengan mesin uji tarik Zwick / Roel Z100.Analisis S/N ratio dilanjutkan dengan ANOVA membuktikan bahwa suhu, arus dan waktu berpengaruh terhadap kekuatan tarik masing-masing sebesar 62,57%; 13,63%; dan 10,89%. Sedangkan kombinasi parameter electroplatingyang paling optimal adalah pada kuat arus 3 ampere, suhu 45 oC, dan waktu 15 menit dengan kekuatan tarik sebesar 610,06 MPa. Terjadi kenaikan kekuatan tarik yang sangat signifikan dari keadaantanpa pelapisan sebesar 480,04 MPa.

Abstract

Al-SiC is a composite composed of AA6061 as a matrix and SiC as a reinforcement particle. The variation of mass added will affect the mechanical properties of the composite because Al-SiC is hardenable, which means that its mechanical properties can be improved by adding the reinforcement component. However, an excessive portion of SiC leads to a decrease in mechanical properties. The purpose of this study was to find the optimal composition of the addition of SiC into the aluminium matrix to gain maximum tensile strength and hardness. The mass fraction variation that would be used in this composite was the addition of 6%, 8%, and 10% SiC with the addition of 1% Mg as a wetting agent. The mixing process used the stir casting method. The process of adding SiC and Mg was carried out by melting the aluminium while stirring it for a certain time before it went to the furnace. The ASTM E8/E8M standard was used for observing the tensile strength of the specimens. Machining was carried out before testing. The specimens were also tested for hardness using the Rockwell hardness method. The result shows that the addition of SiC at the amount of 6%, 8%, and 10% SiC increased the ultimate tensile strength by154.10 MPa, 175.01 MPa, and 198.14 MPa, respectively. Similarly, the hardness also increased up to 30.1 HRF, 48.1 HRF, and 66 HRF, respectively. Microstructure observation also confirmed that a 10% SiC fraction results in less defect and good wettability. The addition of 10% SiC and 1% Mg resulted in maximum tensile strength and hardness and the best microstructure.

Abstract

Kendaraan merupakan alat transportasi yang berfungsi sebagai sarana yang digunakan untuk berpindah lokasi. Bagian penting dari suatu konstruksi kendaraan adalah chassis. Chassis memiliki fungsi sebagai penopang komponen pada suatu kendaraan. Salah satu hal yang dapat diteliti dari chassis yaitu gaya yang terjadi pada chassis. Guna mengetahui gaya yang terjadi pada chassis, dilakukan penelitian mengenai gaya yang terjadi pada chassis akibat pembebanan statik yang terjadi. Penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan enam strain gauge yang dipasang pada tiga titik, pada masing-masing titik dipasang pada sumbu x dan sumbu y guna mencari gaya yang terjadi pada chassis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian maka dapat diperoleh nilai gaya terbesar terjadi pada titik dua yaitu masing-masing 289,54 N pada sumbu x dan 178,09 N pada sumbu y dengan beban driver 45 kg dan 323,17 N pada sumbu x dan 246,64 N pada sumbu y dengan beban driver 56 kg.

Abstract

Nanoparticles are particles that have a size of nm and a size range of 1-100 nano. These particles are formed by the DC Thermal Plasma method. This study utilizes a 70 ampere DC Plasma cutting machine as a plasma flame. The combustion process is carried out in a reactor tube, and the material processed is Aluminum powder (Al) with a purity of 92.5%. The input mass of Aluminum powder is injected at 5gram. Burning process (15 seconds). The particles attached to the reactor wall are sucked in with the help of a vacuum pump then collected on the filter tube. The material is measured by mass using a digital scale. Analysis of the data used is using the Taguci L27 method. The parameters used in this study are injection angle with 3 variations (45 °, 60 °, 90 °) and fire length with 3 variations (2.31 cm; 3.87 cm; 4.28 cm). The contribution of machining parameters in the manufacture of alumina nanoparticles is significant, namely the injection angle parameter has a contribution of 37% and a fire length parameter of 4.2%. The results of the study are generally influenced by the injection angle. The optimum injection angle is 45 ° with an average of 3.56 grams and the least productivity is the injection angle parameter 90 ° which is equal to 2.17 grams The conclusion of the study is that the greater the material injection bend angle the less productivity of DC Thermal Plasma devices as well vice versa.

Abstract

The use of composites has touched various fields, for example in land, sea and air transportation and household appliances. The coffee pulp particle composite panel produces new properties that are unique and affect the characteristics of mechanical strength, especially tensile strength and bending strength [7]. The standard for making good coffee pulp composite panels and producing optimal strength needs to be done [4]. To reduce the air bubbles created, a degasification process needs to be done [5]. In making composites using the hand lay-up method has several main parameters for its tensile strength, where the main parameters used are stirring speed 515 rpm, 915 rpm, 1430 rpm; duration of degasification 7.5 minutes, 10 minutes, 12.5 minutes; degasification pressure -30 kPa, -60 kPa, -90 kPa. The optimal results obtained were 24.88 MPa with an increase of 23.18% from previous studies using the initial combination.
