Abstract

The limited ability of teachers to design interesting digital mathematics teaching materials, as well as the context that is free from local participant wisdom, also causes misconceptions and difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts in depth for students. This study aims to analyze the ability of pre-service mathematics teachers to design student worksheets using the GeoGebra application based on local wisdom in mathematics learning. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach to describe the ability of the pre-service mathematics study program to design student worksheets with Geogebra software based on local wisdom in mathematics learning. Participants in this study were in the pre-service mathematics education study program in West Java. The data collection technique used documentation in the form of student digital open material designs. The digital teaching materials designed by pre-service mathematics students are worksheets with GeoGebra software based on local wisdom. The research instruments were lecturer and teacher assessment sheets to ensure the feasibility of digital teaching materials and student response questionnaires for the practicality of the results of the digital teaching material plan used by students. The results of the study can be explained by the fact that the ability of students in the mathematics education study program to create digital open materials, namely student worksheets and GeoGebra software media, is worthy of the high category as assessed by lecturers and teachers. Meanwhile, the students' response to the socialization of digital open media design by students gave a positive response with a high category. Thus, students' digital teaching materials support meaningful mathematics learning for students with technology and local wisdom.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics is important in recent decades, specifically in the production of gamelan instruments. Therefore, this research aimed to examine the intricate relationship between mathematics and cultural craftsmanship in Sundanese gamelan instruments made at Gong Factory in Bogor, West Java. Ethnographic methods were used to observe and describe the practices of gamelan craftsmen and the data collection process comprised carefully selected artists. These individuals actively acquire data by reviewing relevant material, observing, analyzing, and interviewing. Miles and Huberman's framework for data analysis included data reduction, presentation, inference, and verification. The procedures understood the delicate relationship between mathematics and culture in the investigated setting. The results showed that Gong Factory in Bogor preserved and promoted a unique musical heritage. Furthermore, the instruments were known for exceptional sound quality, serving as cultural relics and didactic tools, as well as teaching visitors about the manufacturing process. The factory preserved culture through the manufacture of gamelan instruments including gong, bonang, and saron. In this context, the craftsmanship used mathematical principles, specifically precise proportions and ratios. The instruments' visual and auditory qualities depended on geometry. The results significantly impacted mathematics education by enhancing cross-cultural connections, improving proportional reasoning and mathematical comprehension, and recognizing the wider relevance of principles. Culture, mathematics, and education were connected, showing that conserving Indonesian musical tradition benefited local and global populations.

Abstract

Rice farmer activities can be used as a context for understanding mathematical concepts. There are many studies on Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) on direct proportion material with a cultural context background. However, there is no research that focuses on using the context of Pandanwangi rice farmers to facilitate students in understanding material in direct proportion. This study aims to design Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) in Scientific Approach on Material Direct Proportion in the Context of Rice Farmers' Activities in Pandanwangi Cianjur, who are familiar with student culture in Cianjur. This research is part of design research. The research design consisted of HLT, namely learning objectives, learning activities, and student learning hypotheses. The result of the research is the set of HLT in the context of Pandanwangi Rice Farmer Activities, which includes learning objectives, learning activities, and the assumptions of each activity. This HLT can be a promising solution to overcome students' difficulties in understanding the concept of direct proportion and values in a cultural context to improve students' character.
