Abstract

Stainless steel material (stainless steel) is used in the home industry and the military industry, and also in the nuclear industry. Steel material is divided into five types, namely austenite, ferrite, martensite, duplex and precipitation hardening. Ferritic stainless steel is an attractive alternative in vehicle production because of its corrosion resistance. Different metals have different characteristics from one another, so the welding process of dissimilar metals requires certain techniques. The purpose of this study is to determine the tensile strength of welds in bimetallic welding between low carbon steel plates and stainless-steel plates and to know the hardness of welds in bimetal welding between low carbon steel plates and stainless-steel plates using GTAW welding. The research method used: this research is part of the testing of technical materials conducted by the destructive test method with the category of science and technology development in the field of Mechanical Engineering. There is a trend of increasing tensile strength, yield strength and hardness of bimetallic welding of low carbon steel plates and stainless-steel plates using GTAW welding, that the greater the welding amperes will increase tensile strength, yield strength and hardness. The highest tensile strength was 41.18 Kg / mm2 and the highest yield strength was 41.16 Kgf / mm2 at 60 amperes and the highest hardness was 571.01 BHN at 55 amperes with the corresponding amperage range from the usage table 45 - 65 amperes. In the HAZ area when compared to the parent material, the HAZ area hardness is higher than the parent material and lower than the weld filler.

Abstract

In the application of welding "GTAW" has several advantages such as welding results do not need to be cleaned from slag or corrosion residue. Due to the above-mentioned advantages, the precise determination of weld parameters and offset by the welding skills of welded characteristics will be affected. The purpose of this research is to know the characteristic of GTAW welding on low carbon steel, by observing the shape of weld bead and supported by the result of macro photo of welding result from various variations of currents and variations of the angle geometry of tungsten electrode. The method used in this study is an experimental method, with treatment of parameters of parameters of current and parameters of angle geometry variation of tapering of tunsten electrode. Analyze method is done to welding result and macro photo of T connection weld result. From the analysis of GTAW weld metal form with type T connection through variation of electrode geometry angle and strong welding current in this research, can be drawn some conclusions, among others, from some variation of weld geometry angle which gives good shape of welding characteristic and deep penetration is angle 300 of ampere 90 A.

Abstract

Steel has good mechanical properties compared with the other materials, that is strength, hardness, rigidity, etc. Specially the steel hardness can be increased by heat treatment (Hardening). The purpose of this research is to obtain information about hardness of S45C steel after hardening by variation of cooling media. This research were used Ø 25 mm x 10 mm S45C steel, Hardened by variation of cooling media and then they were tested by Rockwell Harness Test. The result showed that the hardness of S45C steel after hardening increased from about 15 HRC (before hardening) to 71.89 HRC (Brane quenching), 68.22 HRC (Water quenching), 64.67 HRC (Water + Soluble oil quenching) and 56.89 HRC (Oil quenching), but for the range were opposite to 3.84 HRC (Brane quenching), 4.24 HRC ( Water quenching), 4.22 HRC (Water + Soluble oil quenching) and 5.65 HRC (Oil quenching)

Abstract

Any material intended for automotive use, especially in the body panels must have the criteria able to form (formable), weldability (weldable), coatable (resistant to corrosion) and able to be repaired (repairable). One group of materials that meet all the above requirements are dual phase steel. To form a dual phase steel can be done through a process of heat treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of heat treatment temperature on the formation of a dual phase of the material hardness properties and flexural strength steel. The method used is a variation of the process of heat treatment at temperature 7300C, 7500C, 7700C, 8000C, 8500C, 9000C.The results of the study include the establishment of dual phase steel can improve the hardness of AISI 1005 steel with a carbon content of 0.033% C, the highest value of flexural strength is obtained at a temperature of 770 ° C treatment that is 1.98 kg / mm2 with 223.08 HV hardness values. The hardness and flexural lowest strength obtained at the treatment temperature of 900 ° C is 197.14 HV and 1.15 kg / mm2 and dual phase steel with optimum mechanical properties obtained at a temperature of 770 ° C. Key word : heat treatment, dual phase, hardness, flexure strength
