Abstract

Keywords: Ability to Recognize Numbers, Number Block MediaStimulating the ability to recognize numbers through the media of number blocks for early childhood in Islamic Kindergarten Mina Terpadu Aceh Besar is a learning process that hones children's cognitive abilities in symbolic thinking to improve their ability to recognize numbers. This research is motivated by the low cognitive level of children in Class B (Al-Latif) at the Islamic Kindergarten Integrated Mina Aceh Besar. The problem found is that there are still many children who have not been able to reach the indicators of cognitive ability in recognizing numbers 1-10. To improve the ability to recognize numbers in children, interested in knowing how to improve recognizing numbers by using number blocks for early childhood. The purpose of this study is to improve the ability to recognize numbers through number blocks for early children. The type of research used is classroom action research which was carried out for 2 cycles, each cycle carried out 2 meetings with the research subject involving 10 children. Data collection techniques obtained through observation and performance techniques. The number block media activity is where the teacher prepares an educational game tool in the form of a number block, then demonstrates how to play it. The ability to recognize numbers in Class B (Al-Latif) children at the Mina Aceh Besar Islamic Kindergarten can be increased by means of the teacher explaining to the children the activities to be carried out, namely activities using number blocks and children's activity sheets, demonstrating the steps for playing, allowing children independently to do number block activities by mentioning and arranging symbols for numbers 1-10, and children doing number symbol activities using children's activity sheets.Abstrak. Menstimulasi kemampuan mengenal bilangan melalui media balok angka bagi anak usia dini di TK Islam Terpadu Mina Aceh Besar merupakan proses pembelajaran yang mengasah kemampuan kognitif anak dalam berfikir simbolik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal bilangan. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi masih rendahnya kognitif anak pada Kelas B (Al-Latif) di TK Islam Terpadu Mina Aceh besar. Ditemukan permasalahannya yaitu masih banyak anak yang belum mampu mencapai indikator kemampuan kognitif dalam mengenal bilangan 1-10. Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal bilangan pada anak, peneliti tertarik untuk mengetahui bagaimana meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal bilangan dengan menggunakan media balok angka bagi anak usia dini. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal bilangan melalui media balok angka bagi anak usia dini. Jenis penelitian digunakan yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan selama 2 siklus, setiap siklus dilakukan 2 pertemuan dengan subjek penelitiannya berjumlah 10 anak. Teknik pengumpulan data yang diperoleh melalui teknik observasi dan unjuk kerja. Kegiatan media balok angka dengan langkah guru mempersiapkan alat permainan edukatif berupa balok angka, kemudian mendemontrasikan cara bermainnya. Kemampuan mengenal bilangan pada anak Kelas B (Al-Latif) di TK Islam Terpadu Mina Aceh Besar dapat meningkat dilakukan dengan cara guru menjelaskan kepada anak tentang kegiatan yang akan dilakukan yaitu kegiatan menggunakan media balok angka dan lembar aktivitas anak, mendemontrasikan langkah-langkah bermain, mempersilahkan anak secara mandiri untuk melakukan kegiatan balok angka dengan cara menyebutkan dan menyusun lambang bilangan 1-10, dan melakukan kegiatan mencocokkan lambang bilangan dengan gambar.Kata Kunci: Kemampuan Mengenal Bilangan, Media Balok Angka

Abstract

Research on mathematical communication skills has a background on the importance of student's ability to organize ideas and thoughts when solving problems. This study aimed to determine students' mathematical communication abilities on number pattern material through learning with the RME approach at one of the Banda Aceh Middle Schools. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects were 24 students, and three students were interviewed. Data was collected through interviews, which were analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research showed that mathematical communication skills through learning with the RME approach for number pattern material experienced good development. Students in the high and medium categories can master drawing, written text, and mathematical expression indicators. Students in the low category can master drawing and mathematical expression indicators. The results showed that students experienced problems communicating mathematically in conveying ideas orally and in writing. As a result, an error occurred in solving the problem. This research is expected to be a reference for improving students' mathematical communication skills during the learning process.

Abstract

Mathematical representation ability (MRA) is crucial in solving mathematical problems, particularly in the topic of algebraic expressions. However, some students struggle to grasp algebraic forms in real-world circumstances. Learning through realistic mathematics education (RME) using context is one of the learning approaches that could help improve students' MRA. The objective of this study was to assess students' MRA in learningalgebraic expressionsthrough realistic mathematics education. This research employed mixed-method research with a sequential explanatory design. The subjects of this study were 27 seventh-grade students from a junior high school in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Data on students' MRA were gathered through written test and task-based interviews. The descriptive analysis of written test data revealed that students' average score is 3.6, which is considered low compared to the maximum score of 8. The majority of students (n=24) satisfied the visual indicators of MRA as they successfully drew the composite shape. Whereas the most challenging MRA aspect for students to master was symbolic representation, only a few students (n=6) could solve the problem related to the multiplication of algebraic expressions. Students learning loss in the prerequisites due to online learning during the Covid-19 outbreak was one cause of the students' low performance on MRA.
