Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of fermented Moringa aloifera Lamk Leaf Flour (FMLF) on the amount of abdominal fat content in broiler chickens (Gallus sp). Twenty eight broiler chickens were randomly design into 4 treatment groups with 7 replications each. The (P0) as control group was given 100% commercial ransom, (P1) was given 95% commercial ransom and 5% FMLF, (P2) was given 92.5% and 7.5% FMLF, and (P3) was given 90% commercial ransom and 10% FMLF. The ransom was given for 23 days. The results showed that the abdominal fat contant of broiler chicken in P1 was significantly higher (P0,05) than that of P0, P2 and P3 There was no decrease in fat abdominal contant of broiler chicken in P1, P2 and P3 compared to that in P0 control. In conclusion, subtitusion of commercial ransom with FMLF up to 10% did not result in a decrease of abdominal fat content of broiler chickens.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to observe the histological of the thymus in tegal duck (Anas javanicus) according to the variation of ages. The animals used in this research were one month, two months and three months old of tegal duck. The thymus of each duck was analyzed by Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) method and then observed under a light microscope. The result of the research performed differences in thymus structure of these three ages. The cortex had increased at the age of 2 months and decreased at the age of 3 months. The longest diameter of medulla at the age of 3 months was followed by ages 2 months and 1 month of tegal ducks.  The distribution of Hassall's body had increased at every age level. So, the cortex thickness decreased at the age of 2 months to 3 months, while the diameter of the medulla was getting longer.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the content and distribution of carbohydrate in the sex accessory glands of Aceh cattle. The sex accessory glands of Aceh cattle that were used consisted of a vesicular gland, prostate gland and bulbourethral gland. The entire gland was processed into histological preparation. The content of neutral carbohydrate distribution was observed with periodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining while acid carbohydrates using alcian blue (AB) staining pH 2,5. The results showed that the content and distribution patterns of carbohydrate acid and neutral carbohydrate were different on every sex accessory glands of Aceh cattle. The content of acid-carbohydrate with the intensity of reaction with moderate (++) to strong (+++) intensity was found on the prostate gland and bulbourethral gland. Meanwhile, the neutral carbohydrate with low intensity (+) was found in the vesicular gland, prostate gland and bulbourethral gland. The content of acid carbohydrate was scattered throughout the prostate gland and bulbourethral gland of Aceh cattle, a carbohydrate with high concentrations (+++) was found in the bulbourethral gland.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of fermented kelor leaves (Moringa oleifera) flour as additive in animal feed to increase the weight of boiler carcass. The samples used were 28 DOC strain Cobb CP-707 aged 1 day. This study was conducted using one way pattern complete randomized design with 4 treatments and 7 replications. Control group (P0) was fed with commercial feed; P1 was given 5% fermented kelor leaves flour;  P2 was given 7,5% fermented kelor leaves flour; and P3 was given 10% concentration of fermented kelor leaves flour. Feed replacement was conducted on 08.00 am and 5.00 pm everyday, and water was given ad libitum. Chemical content of flour before and after fermented was analyzed at Research Centre of Biotechnology and Biological Resources, IPB. Body weight measurement was carried out at Veterinary Public Health Laboratorium. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with SPSS 16.0. Mean value (±SD) of carcass weight for P0, P1, P2, and P3 were 938,71±180,83, 1011,86±101,64, 1010,71±126,69, and 907,43±190,35, respectively. This study showed that adddition of fermented kelor leaves flour for 21 days did not affect (P0,05) the weight of broilers carcass.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify the effect of sipatah-patah (Cissus quadrangularis Salisb) leaf extract on mandible density of ovariectomized rats (Rattus norvegicus). The samples were 12 female rats which were divided into 4 treatment groups with 3 replications. K0 consisted of ovariectomized rats without Cissus quadrangularis Salisb exstract, wheares K1, K2 and K3 consisted of ovariectomized rats  and were given Sipatah-patah extract with 500mg/kg body weight, 700/mg/kg body weight and 900mg/kg body weight for 30 days. On 31st day, rats were euthanized with cloroform and mandible bones were collected for histological preparation. Parameters observed were bone structures (osteosit, osteoblast, osteoclast and trabekula). The results showed that in K0 group, bone density was decreased and became thinner, osteoclast cells were found on trabekula, and low density of active and passive osteoblast were also detected. The treatment group (K1 and K2) showed an improvement stucture of trabekula, where the amount of osteoclast were lower than K0, as well as the amount of active osteoblast, although a lot of passive osteoblast were still found. The treatment group (K3) showed an improvement as the most dense trabekula structure with large amount of active osteoblast cell density without the existance of osteoclast compared to other grups. In this research, it would be concluded that the adding sipatah-patah extract with a dose of 900 mg/kb body weight showed a higher number of active osteoblasts and trabekula density compared to the control groups, K1, and K2 on ovariectomized mandible bone rats

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of giving Sipatah-patah extract toward the histopathological and femur bone growth of white rat that was ovariectomized. The experimental animals that were used were 12 white rats divided into 4 treatment group with 3 repetitions. K0 was the ovariectomized rat without giving Sipatah-patah extract (ESP); K1, K2 and K3 were ovariectomized rats which were given Sipatah-patah extract with multilevel doses of 500 mg/kg BW, 700 mg/kg BW and 900 mg/kg BW for 30 days. On the 31st day, rats were euthanized using chloroform and os femur that was taken to being made into histological preparation.  There was the decrease in the bones density of the K0 group which is characterized by thinning of trabecular structure, there were lots of osteoclast cells on the edge of the trabecular and lower density of active osteoblasts and passive osteoblasts. The rat of group K1 and K2 showed an improvement on the trabecular structure and lower osteoclast than group K0. The rat of group K3 had a visible improvement of the most congested trabecular structures, cohesive with the most density cell of active osteoblasts than the other groups. The result of this research concluded that the giving of Sipatah-patah extract doses 900 mg/kg BW showed a higher density of trabecular and active osteoblasts than the control group, K1 and K2 on the white rat bones that were ovariectomized.

Abstract

The aims of this research was to determine the density level of lumbal vertebrae on ovariectomized rats administered with Cissus qudrangula Salisb stem extract with various doses. In this research twelve female rats were randomizedly divided into 4 groups with 3 treatment repetition. K1-groups were ovariectomized rats without Cissus quadrangula Salisb trunct extract administration; K2, K3, and K4, were ovariectomized and given with Cissus quadrangula Salisb extract  with 500 mg/kg/Bw, 700 mg/kg/Bw, and 900 mg/kg/Bw as doses perday for 30 days. On day-31, rats were euthanized using chloroform and the os lumbal-5 were collected, followed with histological preparations. Research parameters were the density of active osteoblasts, passive osteoblasts, and osteoclasts. The results showed that the damage in K1 was clearly marked with the high number of osteoclasts, K2 and K3 indicate lower osteoclasts levels than K1 and had repaired bone structure characterized with active cuboidal shaped  osteoblast  activity and passive flat shaped osteoblasts and K4 showed increasing  level of active osteoblasts. The administration of Cissus quadrangula Salisb stem extract at 900 mg/kg/bw for 30 days showed bone repair due to ovariectomy indicated with high level of active osteoblasts.
