Abstract

This study examined the influence of credibility and .language in Internet-based media on false memory. A randomized factorial 2 (media credibility) × 2 (language) experimental design was conducted with 106 college students. The two groups of media credibility consisted of social media (LINE) and non-social media (detik.com), while media language consisted of formal and informal language. A confidence test was used to measure false memory. A two-factor ANOVA showed that media credibility significantly affects false memory. Participants in the detik.com group were more confident in the information received and had greater false memory than the LINE group. However, no significant effect of language was found, and no significant interaction effect between media credibility and language on false memory was found. This study suggests that individuals should be cautious when reading information on non-social media platforms, as individuals tend to place more confidence on the source, leading to greater false memory.

Abstract

The need to have a capacity to remain hardy despite stress and adversity, particularly in young adult groups, is an essential thing to address. However, to our knowledge, reliable and valid scales to measure the construct is still lacking, particularly in Indonesia. Thus, it encourages the development and validation of the Multidimensional Hardiness Inventory for Young Adults (MHIYA) in Indonesia to measure this capacity. MHIYA was developed through a comprehensive review of literature and a content validity testing process. The data from 326 participants aged 18-40 years old were analyzed using confirmatory factor analyses with a structural equation modelling approach. The final validated MHIYA consists of 18 items loading on three dimensions: commitment, control, and challenge. Cronbach’s α ranged between 0.780 and 0.902 in each dimension indicating high internal consistency reliability for each dimension of the MHIYA. The result from item discrimination analysis indicates that all items in MHIYA could distinguish individuals with high and low levels of hardiness. Therefore, MHIYA is a valid and reliable scale for measuring hardiness among young adults in Indonesia.

Abstract

Despite the fact that cyberbullying is common on social media, only a few instruments have beendeveloped to assess cyberbullying tendencies in the social media context. The purpose of this study is to develop a Cyberbullying in Social Media Scale (CSMS) for cyberbullying perpetration. Participants are active social media users in Indonesia (n = 958) between the ages of 18 and 40. The Cronbach alpha reliability testing showed that CSMS had a high internal consistency (α =.852). Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that CSMS fit the one-factor model (χ² (54) = 154.891, p < 0.001, RMSEA = 0.044 [90% CI 0.036, 0.052], CFI = 0.906, TLI = 0.885, SRMR = 0.049). Convergent-discriminant validity testing method using the Big Five Inventory also showed that CSMS is valid in measuring cyberbullying perpetration in the social media context. The Cyberbullying in Social Media Scale (CSMS) is a developed unidimensional measurement tool that evaluates cyberbullying tendencies on social media. The CSMS has demonstrated reliability and validity, making it a valuable new instrument for screening and assessing levels of cyberbullying tendencies among young adults in Indonesia. As such, the scale has practical applications for guiding interventions and investigating cyberbullying behavior.

Abstract

Uncertain situations have further exacerbated great vulnerability to stressors and a high risk of mental health problems in urban populations. The adverse effects of uncertainty on well-being have been increasingly concerning and heightened the need to understand intolerance of uncertainty (IU) as a factor that influences responses to uncertainty. However, few scales have been developed to measure IU, especially in Indonesia. To address this concern, the current study aimed to develop a reliable and valid Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale for Indonesian Adults (IUS-A). The scale was developed and validated using data from 588 participants aged 20–65 years (M = 32, SD = 11.04) from various provinces in Indonesia. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the unidimensional IUS-A fit the theoretical model. The final version of the IUS-A consists of 18 items with good internal consistency and a valid measurement of IU. Furthermore, the items exhibited good discriminatory power to differentiate individuals with high and low levels of IU. Based on these results, IUS-A is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring IU in the adult population in Indonesia.

Abstract

Insufficient comprehension of traffic signs among motorcyclists is a contributing factor to traffic accidents. Furthermore, the ability to comprehend these signs is closely tied to the cognitive process of accurately interpreting the information conveyed, with one of the key influencing factors being the representation of signs themselves.  Therefore, this research aimed to examine the effect of sign types on the understanding of traffic signs, utilizing an experimental research approach that employed a between-subject, randomized multi-group design. A sample of 80 motorcyclists aged 17-25 residing in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas was involved in the research. Participants were exposed to ten unfamiliar warning signs displayed on a computer, presented in three different formats, namely symbol, text, and symbol + text. Understanding of traffic signs was measured by level of signs comprehension (accuracy). The results showed that signs types significantly affected understanding of traffic signs. Furthermore, text and symbol + text signs resulted in higher level of understanding compared to symbols. The research implied the need for textual elements in the designs of warning signs to optimize understanding of traffic signs among motorcyclists.

Abstract

Industrial design plays a central role in driving the global economy, including in Indonesia. The Hague System plays a key role in ensuring that industry in Indonesia moves towards more sustainable business practices. In an effort to improve the quality and competitiveness of local products, the implementation and procedures of the Hague System are becoming increasingly important. The Hague system provides legal certainty for industrial design owners in Indonesia and is a tool for adding high value to the industrial economy. The Hague system can support the growth of the industrial design sector, but to date the Hague system has not been fully implemented in Indonesia and has not even ratified the Hague system. The Hague system must be in line with national policies in the field of industry and intellectual property rights. If there is no harmony, the implementation of the Hague System may not have the maximum impact on industrial development in Indonesia. This study uses a normative juridical method with a statutory approach. Overall, the implementation and procedures of the Hague System have an undeniable urgency in advancing industrial design in Indonesia. By creating a legal environment that supports innovation, provides certainty for design owners, and encourages curiosity, the Hague System is an important foundation for the positive development of the design industry sector in the country. Therefore, the hague system must immediately be introduced into industrial design in Indonesia considering that there are many great benefits to be gained, while having to take into account more of the obstacles that will occur in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: First-year undergraduate students face the learning style transition in high schools and universities and struggle to accept a new academic environment. Previous studies found that academic self-efficacy is important in predicting academic achievement among first-year undergraduate students. However, no specific instruments were developed in the Indonesian context. Purpose: This research aimed to develop and test the psychometric properties of The Indonesian Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (TIASS). Method: The scale was developed using Zajacova’s theory on academic self-efficacy. The test tryout involved 251 first-year college students, both female and male, aged 18-22 (M = 19.56, SD = 2.47). Statistical analysis used classical test theory and the Rasch model. Reliability was assessed with Stratified Alpha, Cronbach's Alpha, and the Rasch Model, while validity was evaluated through construct and concurrent validity.Findings: The final 20 items effectively measure academic self-efficacy in first-year undergraduates, demonstrating good reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = .692-.781, Stratified Alpha = .902, Item Separation Reliability = .990, and Person Separation Reliability = .880) and validity (t-value range from 9.779 to 36.323 and λ ranged from -.070 to .774).Implication: TIASS is a reliable and valid scale for assessing academic self-efficacy, providing a baseline for designing interventions to boost first-year student’s academic confidence.
