Abstract

This study aims to develop a Social Media Engagement Adolescent Scale (SMEAS) that can comprehensively capture the culture of social media use among Indonesian adolescents and its implications for educational psychology. This study employs a quantitative approach and uses self-report for data collection. A total of 435 participants aged between 17-21 years were involved in this study, and the data were analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results of this study showed that the validated Social Media Engagement Adolescent Scale (SMEAS) consists of 24 statement items divided into three dimensions: affective engagement, behavioral engagement, and cognitive engagement based on social media engagement theory from Ni et al. Reliability testing using Cronbach’s α showed that each dimension in SMEAS has good reliability. Item discrimination analysis revealed that all items in SMEAS could differentiate individuals with high and low levels of engagement. Based on the results, SMEAS can be considered a reliable and valid scale for measuring Social Media Engagement among adolescents in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aimed to validate the Indonesian version of the Religious Orientation Scale (ROS-I), an adaptation of Allport and Ross’s (1967) measure of intrinsic and extrinsic religious orientation, using the Rasch model analysis. ROS-I, which consists of two subscales: Intrinsic Religious Orientation (IRO) and Extrinsic Religious Orientation (ERO) was tested to 410 Muslim adolescents from the Greater Jakarta area using online questionnaire. The psychometric evaluation showed that the ROS-I had good index of person and item separation, unidimensional construct, local independence, good item fit index, and good distributions for its rating scales. Therefore, the ROS-I has generally proven to be a valid and reliable tool for evaluating two aspects of religious orientation in Indonesian Muslim adolescents. However, this study restriction to Muslim adolescents’ population may limit its generalizability that calls for broader and more diverse population for future research. Nevertheless, the validated ROS-I offers a useful assessment of religious orientation in Indonesia and similar cultural settings.

Abstract

Risky driving behaviour significantly contributes to traffic accidents, with gender long recognized as an influencing internal factor. However, findings on gender’s role in driving behaviour are inconsistent. This systematic review explores gender’s influence on two risky driving categories, violations and errors, while considering cultural context and research methodologies. Following PRISMA guidelines, an initial search yielded 110 articles. After title screening, 62 remained, with subsequent abstract review narrowing the selection to a final 21 scientific articles published between 2015 and 2025, primarily from ScienceDirect. Results indicate that men tend to commit more offences, while women commit more errors, particularly in WEIRD countries. Furthermore, the utilized research designs influenced the generalizability of the findings. This study emphasizes the significance of cross-cultural approaches and appropriate design in gender-based traffic safety research, highlighting the need for targeted interventions. Keywords: culture, errors, gender, research methods, risky driving behaviour, violations

Abstract

Public services should ideally be organized to ensure equal access for all citizens. However, in practice, maladministration is often found that is detrimental to the rights of the community. The Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia as a state institution authorized to supervise the implementation of public services, has the authority to issue recommendations as a form of correction for maladministration by state administrators. However, the implementation of these recommendations is often ignored, which reflects the weak law enforcement mechanism for the results of this supervision. This study aims to examine: (1) the existence of the authority of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia in supervising the implementation of public services based on the provisions of laws and regulations; and (2) the legal design of the expansion of the Ombudsman's authority in imposing sanctions for maladministration based on the perspective of dynamic governance. The research method used is normative legal. The results of the study indicate that the Ombudsman's authority is based on strong historical and legal constructions, and has implications for institutions and the protection of community rights. The design of the expansion of authority is assessed through three indicators of dynamic governance, namely: adaptability to change, policy innovation, and handling policy complexity. This study recommends strengthening the legal and institutional basis to ensure that the Ombudsman's recommendations have effective binding power in the national legal system.

Abstract

Abstract

Existing measurements of mindful parenting primarily focus on parenting in infants or older children and are designed specifically for mothers. The current study aims to develop a scale to assess mindful parenting in preschool children aged 3 to 5 (Mindful Parenting in Preschoolers/MPP) using a situational judgment test that can be completed by both parents. A total of 307 Indonesian parents aged 24–54 years old (M = 33.1, SD = 4.73) completed the 42 pooled items of the MPP. Psychometric testing was conducted to obtain the final version of the MPP with 30 items. Factor analysis revealed a three-factor structure, awareness, compassion, and non-reactivity, differing from the proposed model. Overall, the MPP demonstrates good internal consistency, and validity testing showed a significant negative correlation with parenting stress as a convergent criterion. The statistical performance of individual dimensions remains inadequate following scale reduction, necessitating further refinement and additional data collection. Despite these limitations, the MPP is a promising tool that offers a different test format compared to most currently available mindful parenting measurements.

Abstract

Mindful parenting benefits both parents and children; however, Indonesia lacks a valid and reliable tool for it. This study aims to develop a mindful parenting scale (MPS) as an effective tool for parents of children aged 3–6 years. The MPS is a multidimensional scale comprising five dimensions based on the theories of previous researchers (Kabat-Zinn and Kabat-Zinn and Duncan et al.). The study involved 326 participants with marriage durations of 2–32 years (M = 8.4, SD = 4.53). The results demonstrate that the final version of the MPS exhibits high internal consistency for the total score and each dimension. Additionally, confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the multidimensional MPS aligns well with the model and possesses good convergent validity. The development of the MPS is crucial for researchers and practitioners in further to better understand, assess, and design interventions related to mindful parenting.
