Abstract

21st century mathematics education has made use of science and technology while maintaining the philosophy of mathematics from an ethical and epistemological standpoint. This paper examines the goals of the philosophy of mathematics from an epistemological and ethical perspective. It also investigates the relationship between these perspectives and the practice of studying mathematics in the twenty-first century. This article was written using the Publish or Perish software and a systematic literature review approach. 41 initial articles were found by inputting keywords. Following review, fifteen articles were found to be in agreement. This study reveals that the goal of mathematics philosophy is to understand truth, meaning, certainty, and the nature and sources of mathematical knowledge, as well as how to interpret mathematics, from an epistemological perspective. Analyze and reflect on the ethical implications of mathematical practices. Its epistemological application in 21st century learning practices guides the way concepts are positioned, logical arguments are made, and mathematical problems are solved. Next, ethical considerations include maintaining student privacy, establishing learning agreements in every class, and avoiding creating group distinctions. by utilizing an interactive, student-centered learning paradigm like PBL, inquiry, contextual learning, use of technology, STEM, and others. Such behaviors will subsequently cultivate the values of critical, communicative, creative, and cooperative character. Therefore, we must uphold the fundamentals of learning in the 21st century, both in terms of epistemology and ethics.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore and leverage the synergistic relationship between the philosophy of mathematics education and culture-based learning models. It seeks to investigate how philosophical perspectives can inform and enrich the development and implementation of culture-based learning models in mathematics education. Additionally, it aims to examine how integrating philosophical underpinnings can deepen students' comprehension of mathematical concepts within diverse cultural frameworks. Reading the entire paper is essential for anyone interested in advancing the field of mathematics education with a focus on cultural integration. This research explores the intricate relationship between the philosophy of mathematics education and culture-based learning models, offering valuable insights into how philosophical perspectives can enrich teaching practices within diverse cultural contexts. Moreover, it outlines crucial future research agendas, emphasizing the need for cross-cultural studies to identify universal and context-specific approaches, as well as the importance of equipping mathematics educators with the necessary skills through professional development programs. Overall, the paper provides a comprehensive roadmap for educators, researchers, and policymakers to promote inclusive and culturally relevant mathematics education, making it a must-read for those dedicated to enhancing educational practices in a diverse world. In conclusion, the integration of cultural elements in mathematics education is a dynamic field with promising future agendas. Cross-cultural research and teacher professional development programs are essential components for advancing the inclusivity and effectiveness of mathematics education in diverse contexts. By addressing these agendas, we can foster a more equitable and culturally responsive approach to teaching and learning mathematics.

Abstract

The implementation of Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum necessitates a comprehensive understanding of student characteristics to support personalized learning experiences. This study explores the evaluation of student characteristics, assessment instruments, and their application in improving the learning process within the Merdeka Curriculum framework.To examine the evaluation of student characteristics, various assessment instruments, factors influencing instrument selection and application, and the benefits of evaluations in enhancing the learning process. This qualitative study employs a systematic literature review. The research steps include: 1) Collecting relevant literature from academic databases, focusing on journal articles, books, and government regulations related to the Merdeka Curriculum and student assessment; 2) Analyzing collected materials using content analysis techniques; 3) Synthesizing key themes and findings; 4) Validating results through data source triangulation and peer review. The study identifies key student characteristics for assessment, including cognitive abilities, learning readiness, motivation, learning styles, self-regulation, and social-emotional skills. Various assessment instruments are discussed, such as standardized tests, evaluation scales, performance-based assessments, interviews, and observations. Factors influencing instrument selection include assessment goals, student characteristics, and available resources. The benefits of student characteristic evaluations include informing adaptive instruction, providing targeted support, and monitoring student progress. Effective evaluation of student characteristics is crucial for implementing the Merdeka Curriculum and supporting student-centered learning in Indonesia. The study emphasizes the need for a shift towards process-oriented assessment and highlights the importance of collaboration among educational stakeholders to create an inclusive learning environment.
