Rivers are one of the environmental components that have important functions for human life, including to support environmental balance as a result of increased development activities in various fields. River pollution occurs because of domestic and non-domestic waste. River pollution that occurs in the ngingas river causes a pungent and colorful odor that affects the biota and quality of river water. The purpose of this study was to measure and map river water quality in terms of TSS and BOD parameters. The research is descriptive in nature with the independent variable being effluent along the river and the dependent variable being the levels of TSS and BOD in the ngingas river. The sampling technique used the grab sampling method and composite sampling was carried out by taking 4 points as far as 2 km from the Ngingas River flow. Data analysis was done by descriptive method of BOD and TSS levels as a result of the effluent at the 4 specified points. The results of the measurement of 4 sampling points at the Ngingas River showed BOD and TSS results of 151.5 mg/L and 103 mg/L in the first 1 km caused by domestic waste originating from settlements with the criteria of the waste being slightly foamy, and smelling good. While in the second 1 km the results of TSS and BOD are 814.2 mg/L and 73.8 mg/L, the measurement results can be caused by many factors, namely household activities or industrial activities, with the criteria that the waste is sometimes foamy. , slightly black, cloudy and smelly. Suggestions for other researchers are efforts to reduce TSS and BOD levels that meet the requirements and it is hoped that every industrial owner has a sewage treatment plant.

Liquid waste from batik industry often causes environmental problems, because there is a pollutant content of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). Corn cobs and husks contain high cellulose which has the potential to become activated carbon. This study aims to analyze the bioadsorbent mixture of cobs and corn husks in reducing BOD levels in batik wastewater. This type of research is pre-experimental, the research design is One Group Pretest Posttest Design. Variations in the mass of bioadsorbent mixture of corn cobs and husks with a ratio of (70:30), (60:40) and (50:50) contact time for 2.5 hours in 500 ml of batik liquid waste. Measurement of BOD levels was carried out after treatment. Data analysis using ANOVA test. The highest percentage of decrease in BOD levels after treatment was in the mass variation of 38 gr: 25 gr (60:40) 81.79% and the decrease value was 9243 mg/L. BOD levels before treatment using a mixture of cob and corn husk bioadsorbent were 11300 mg/L and after treatment it was 2057 mg/L which means that there is 1 pair of variations in the mass of the mixture of corn cobs and husks in reducing the average different BOD content in batik wastewater. Bioadsorbent mixture of cobs and corn husks can reduce BOD levels in batik wastewater.

Hepatitis A is a fecal oral disease which is still a public health problem in Indonesia. The Pacitan Regency Government has determined an extraordinary event (KLB) of Hepatitis A since June 25th, 2019, there were 1,310 confirmed cases. This research aims to determine the relation between well contamination and the incidence of Hepatitis A.This study used a case control design by means of observation and measurement of 36 dug wells randomly selected from 18 cases and 18 controls based on inclusion criteria. The water microbiology examination was carried out at the Surabaya Health Polytechnic Laboratory with the Most Probable Number (MPN) method, and the data analysis technique used was the serial point coefficient correlation. The results suggested that all observed well water was contaminated by E. coli bacteria, and more than half of them did not meet the construction requirements, namely from the aspect of distance from pollutant sources, walls, lips and well floors. The analysis results suggested a relation between Escherichia coli contamination and well construction (p-value = 0.036). However, it did not show a significant relation with the incidence of Hepatitis A (p-Value = 0.514).Improved well construction, increased knowledge, and hygiene behavior are efforts of which must be made in managing Hepatitis A.Â

Hospitals, as healthcare service facilities, generate hazardous and toxic waste. Inadequate management can cause health problems both within the hospital environment and in the surrounding community. This study aims to examine the management of hazardous and toxic waste generated by PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya. This research uses a descriptive method by collecting primary and secondary data. The subjects in this study are those responsible for the management of hazardous and toxic waste. The data obtained are then analyzed descriptively using the CIPP evaluation method. The context evaluation of hazardous and toxic waste management based on interviews and observations falls into the good category, while the input, process, and product evaluations based on interviews also fall into the good category. However, based on observations, they fall into the sufficient category. This is because several CIPP evaluation variables have not fully met the assessment criteria. It is hoped that the results of this evaluation can be used as feedback to improve the quality of hazardous and toxic waste management at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya.Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the management of hazardous and toxic waste at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya generally complies with Ministry of Health Regulation Number. 2 of 2023. However, its implementation is not yet optimal, as it is adjusted to the hospital's conditions and capabilities. It is recommended that the hospital improve and upgrade the facilities and infrastructure for hazardous and toxic waste management.
