Abstract

This paper discusses an educational activity program for the indigenous people of Bajo in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, aiming to improve parenting knowledge among young mothers. It addresses issues related to their identity as indigenous people, their self-esteem, and their way of upbringing of children. The issue of low self-esteem among the Bajo community often leads to adverse effects on their learning motivation, future orientation, and exclusivity, particularly in children. This situation becomes more complicated due to the societal tendency toward child marriage, especially among the Bajo people in Leppe Village. Rumahku Madrasahku (meaning My Home is My School) is a program proposed using an adult learning approach to introduce egalitarian parenting and teach children about self-worth. Departing from Brofensbrenner’s ecological theory, this program highlights the role of the family as a basis for encouraging a positive sense of self-worth in the Bajo children. A series of activities are planned and prepared using Participatory Action Research (PAR), from sharing sessions, lectures, question and answer, reflection, and assignment exercises. The program utilizes the mothers’ knowledge and experience in parenting to be further developed parenting strategies. It provides young mothers with a greater understanding of the self esteem concept, the significance of children’s self esteem, and parenting strategies that can increase children’s self-esteem and enhance their awareness of their roles and responsibilities as mothers and parents. This educational program has only initiated the first phase of providing the young mother with understanding, awareness, and skills that might be required for egalitarian parenting. Even though it is challenging and may take some time, changes in knowledge and attitudes towards parenting can be observed as a result of the program, thus calling for continuous and further systematic assistance in the future.

Abstract

The increasing rate of suicide among Indonesian university students reflects a serious mental health vulnerability caused by academic pressure, loneliness, loss of life meaning, and weak social support. This study explores the effectiveness of spiritual counseling in preventing student suicide and revitalizing its application in State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN). Using a literature review of studies published between 2015 and 2025 from Google Scholar and Garuda Dikti, the analysis applies a narrative synthesis to identify core themes of concepts, strategies, and implementation models. Results indicate that spiritual counseling reduces suicidal ideation by strengthening life purpose, promoting positive religious coping, easing psychological distress, and stabilizing emotional well-being. Prior studies highlight the efficacy of dzikir therapy, religious reflection, and worship integration in enhancing students’ resilience. The study recommends improving counselor competence, engaging academic advisors, and ensuring institutional support so spiritual counseling becomes an effective preventive and curative mental health strategy.

Abstract

This study is based on the reality that mental disorders continue to be misunderstood in society, despite their serious impacts on an individual's psychological and physical health. This study aims to examine QS. Yūsuf [12]:13 and 84 within the conceptual framework of mental disorders, focusing on the emotional story of Prophet Ya’qub that depicts deep sadness and worry, which affected his physical condition. The method used is the Ma’nā-cum-Maghzā hermeneutical approach to explore the meanings of key terms in the verses and their relevance to modern psychological phenomena. The results of the analysis indicate that terms such as ḥuzn, khawf, asafā, and kaẓīm not only contain spiritual meanings but also imply psychosomatic symptoms consistent with the concept of mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety. This study contributes theoretically to the development of multidisciplinary thematic exegesis and has practical implications for the development of therapy based on Qur’anic values. These findings highlight the need for integration between exegetical approaches, psychology, and Islamic spirituality in addressing the psychological challenges faced by the Muslim community in the modern era.

Abstract

Although research on well-being has been extensively documented by experts, there is a paucity of literature addressing it from a geographical background perspective, especially in the rural-urban context. Therefore, this study aims to examine students' experiences related to well-being sources, considering the geographical background of students from rural and urban areas. The research employs a case study research design. Data collection is conducted through interviews with high school students in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data analysis is carried out using thematic analysis and the school well-being model by Konu and Rimpela. The research findings reveal no differences in the sources of well-being between students from schools in urban and rural areas, except for the relationship between teachers and students, which was found to be more closely related to urban students than rural students. Social relationships among school members, school facilities and conditions, participation in school organizations and extracurricular activities, consistent enforcement of school rules, and the fulfillment of self-identity are sources of happiness for students in rural and urban settings. Similarly, this study expands the Konu and Rimpela model by incorporating the provision of Wireless Networking (Wi-Fi) and the aesthetic quality of school locations under the dimension of having. Ultimately, this research implies that creating harmonious conditions among school members and arranging the aesthetic aspects of the school environment and Wi-Fi facilities are crucial factors to be considered in efforts to nurture and enhance students' well-being.
