Abstract

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of toddlers who have a height-for-age less than -2 SD WHO Z-score. The period from a newborn until two years is also known as the golden period. Nutrition obtained after birth affects the growth and development of them. Complementary feeding was given when they were 6 months old. The level of mother's knowledge about complementary foods has an impact on complementary feeding. Inappropriate complementary feeding can lead to stunting. The research objective was to determine the correlation between mother's knowledge about complementary feeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers under two in Mayang. The research was an analytical observational with a cross sectional study design. The sample was 90 respondents taken using consecutive sampling method. Data collection using a questionnaire on the mother and using height-for-age data from the toddlers. Statistical test using the Spearman test, showed that there was a significant correlation between the level of mother's knowledge about complementary feeding and the incidence of stunting (p=0.024.; rho=-0.238). Due to this result, we recommend continuous health promotion and education among mothers to decrease the risk of stunting in their children. Abstract

Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problem that people around the world are facing. The World Health Organization (WHO) has determined Indonesia as one of the five stunting prevalence subregions in the Southeast Asia region. Zinc includes micro-nutrients that are important for the growth and development of children. The prevalence of zinc deficiency in children in Indonesia in 2006 was 36.1%. This study aims to determine the relationship between zinc intake and the length/height of children aged 6-59 months in the Districts of Jelbuk and Sumberjambe. This research is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample used was 119, derived from secondary data from previous studies. Zinc intake in children was obtained through 24-hour food recall data and then analyzed using nutrisurvey software, while body length/height is the maximum distance from the vertex to the soles of the feet. The study results were that 57.2% of the samples had insufficient zinc intake, with an average daily intake of 4.37 ± 2.35 mg, and as many as 60.5% had TB below normal. The data analysis showed a significant relationship between zinc intake and the length/height of children aged 6-59 months (p=0.001), with a reasonably strong relationship (r=0.295). This study concludes that there is a relationship between zinc intake and the length/height of children aged 6-59 months in the Jelbuk and Sumberjambe Districts. Keywords: Zinc, Stunted, Stunting

Abstract

Increasing the cattle population can increase the amount of the waste. Poor management of cage sanitation has the risk of causing a decrease in the health conditions of cattle farmers, such as: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and itching, as many as 50% of cattle with diarrhea are infected with Cryptosporidium sp. The highest infection of Cryptosporidium sp. in cattle found in calves. The calf can excrete 1í—1010 oocysts of Cryptosporidium sp. per day. Cryptosporidium sp. also has the potential to cause zoonotic infections that are transmitted from animals to humans. The study aims was to determine the relationship between stall sanitation and Cryptosporidium sp. to calf and cattle farmer. The type of this research was analytic observational with a cross sectional approach conducted in Jatian Village, Pakusari, Jember during October 2021 - March 2022. The primary data was obtained through interviews and observations. The feces of calves and cattle farmer were collected and examined using sedimentation method and modified Ziehl-Neelsen (MZN) staining method. The statistical test used is the chi-square test. The results showed that the prevalence of Cryptosporidium sp. in calves by 14,3% and on cattle farmer by 4,8%. The bivariate analysis showed that that stall location and waste handling were associated with Cryptosporidium for calf (p≤0.05), and there were no variables that were significantly related to infection in cattle farmers (p>0,05). Cryptosporidium sp. in calves and humans can be caused by several factors, such as environmental factors and hosts. Preventive measures such as maintaining a clean environment including cowshed sanitation and personal hygiene need to be taken to reduce the risk of Cryptosporidium infection from calves to humans, and vice versa.

Abstract

Abstract Nutritional imbalances can lead to malnutrition which can affect children's physical and cognitive growth and development. Advances in science and technology have created opportunities for innovation in the form of health applications to help monitor children's growth and development, nutritional status, and children's daily nutritional intake. The factor that influences the intention to use technology is the ease of use. This indicates that the easier the application is to use, the higher a person's interest and compliance will be in using the application regularly. This research aims to determine the effect of ease of use of the BalitaGrow+ application on compliance with filling in the daily nutrition column for children in Rambigundam Village, Jember. This research was an analytical observational research with a cross sectional approach with a sample size of 35 people who meet the criteria. Data analysis used univariate tests and bivariate used the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results obtained from 35 respondents showed that 34 people (97.1%) found it easy to use the BalitaGrow+ application and 31 people (88.6%) had good compliance in filling in the child's daily nutrition column in the application. The results of statistical analysis showed a significance value of p value >0.05 (0.726). So it can be concluded that there was an insignificant influence between the ease of use of the BalitaGrow+ application on compliance with filling in the daily nutrition column for children in Rambigundam Village, Jember. It is suggested to increase the sample size and investigate other influenced factors for future study. Keywords: health application, ease of use, compliance of filling, children’s nutrition
