Abstract

Self-efficacy in adolescents is recognized as an important psychological trait closely associated with success in learning and adaptive behavior. In the era of Society 5.0, adolescent self-efficacy has attracted increasing attention, particularly in relation to smartphone usage habits within the context of online learning. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and smartphone use among adolescent girls. A correlational analytic design was applied. The study population consisted of all female adolescents in Surabaya (N=235,687), and a total of 400 respondents were selected through cluster random sampling. The independent variable was self-efficacy, and the dependent variable was smartphone usage. Data were collected using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and a smartphone usage questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 72.3% of the respondents had moderate levels of self-efficacy, while 59.5% reported high levels of smartphone use. The Spearman test revealed a statistically significant but weak positive correlation between self-efficacy and smartphone use (r=0.192, p=0.000). These findings indicate that although a relationship exists between self-efficacy and smartphone use among adolescent girls, the strength of the association is limited. Therefore, interpretations suggesting that higher self-efficacy directly leads to more positive smartphone use should be made cautiously, as this is not strongly supported by the data. The involvement of families and educators remains essential in guiding adolescents toward constructive and responsible smartphone use.

Abstract

Background: Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) access is vital for patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy. Proper care of AVF greatly affects the continuity of fistula function and prevents complications such as infection and thrombosis. Objective: This study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and management of arteriovenous fistula access in hemodialysis patients. Methods: This study is a correlational analysis with a cross-sectional design. The study population included all dialysis patients, totaling 200 respondents. The sample size was 160 respondents who were randomly selected using the simple random sampling method. Questionnaires were used to collect information, which was then analyzed using Spearman's Rank correlation test. Results: The results showed that 57.5% of the 160 respondents had insufficient knowledge, and 60% lacked in arteriovenous fistula (cimino) care. The Spearman test results showed a p-value of 0.000 and a correlation of 0.709. Conclusion: Patients with good knowledge tend to perform AV fistula care more appropriately and consistently.

Abstract

Background: Family resilience plays a crucial role in maintaining psychological well-being and adaptive coping among families caring for hemodialysis patients. Chronic illness and prolonged treatment often impose emotional and physical burdens that challenge the family’s ability to adapt, highlighting the need to identify determinants influencing resilience. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationships between demographic and clinical factors: age, gender, education level, duration of hemodialysis, and comorbidities, and family resilience among patients undergoing hemodialysis at Ahmad Yani Islamic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia. Methods: This study used a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population included 110 hemodialysis patients, and 86 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Independent variables included age, gender, education level, duration of hemodialysis, and comorbidities, while the dependent variable was resilience. The Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) was used to measure resilience. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Result: Most respondents (88.4%) demonstrated a very high level of resilience. Significant relationships were found between resilience and gender (p = 0.002), education level (p < 0.001), duration of hemodialysis (p < 0.001), and comorbidities (p < 0.001), while age showed no significant association (p = 0.019). Conclusion: Family resilience among hemodialysis patients was classified as very high. Socio-demographic factors, health conditions, and treatment duration influenced resilience levels. These findings highlight the need for nursing interventions focusing on psychosocial support, patient education, and family empowerment to enhance adaptive coping in long-term hemodialysis care.

Abstract

Background: Stroke is a neurological disease caused by an occlusion or hypoperfusion in the cerebral blood vessels, leading to neurological deficits and resulting in disability or death. Objective: The purpose of this case study is to describe nursing care in addressing impaired physical mobility needs by implementing Range of Motion (ROM) exercises in stroke patients, from initial assessment to evaluation Methods: This study adopted a descriptive single-case study design and was reported in accordance with the CARE (Case Report) guideline. The sampling frame consisted of one postoperative orthopedic patient who met predefined inclusion criteria, namely stable vital signs, the ability to communicate and cooperate with examination procedures, and no contraindication to range-of-motion (ROM) exercises. Data were collected through interviews, physical examination, structured observation, and review of clinical records. Functional status and motor impairment were assessed using the standardized muscle strength grading scale (Medical Research Council [MRC] scale, 0–5), along with clinical monitoring sheets to document changes in movement capacity. The intervention protocol consisted of prescribed ROM exercises—including passive-assisted and active movement techniques—administered twice daily over the observation period, with progression based on clinical tolerance and patient feedback. Result: At baseline assessment, the patient demonstrated unilateral left-sided weakness, with muscle strength graded at 3/5 for both upper and lower extremities based on the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale, indicating movement against gravity but not resistance. After three consecutive days of prescribed ROM intervention, follow-up assessment showed improvement to 4/5 in both extremities, reflecting increased capability to move against moderate resistance. Measurements were conducted by the same trained clinician using the same standardized scale to enhance reliability, although potential subjective scoring bias inherent to manual muscle testing cannot be fully excluded. Conclusion: There was an increase in muscle strength between before and after the intervention. It is expected that ROM therapy can be applied as an intervention to overcome physical mobility impairment in stroke patients.
