Abstract

The map of competition in the business world in the industrial sector makes consumers' demands on the quality of products produced even higher so that the industry has an obligation to provide the best service to consumers in order to maintain the sustainability of its business. This is evenly distributed in all industrial sectors including the printing industry. Based on preliminary observations at one of the large printing presses in Jabodetabek the failure rate of printed folding carton packaging products produced is still quite large. The integrated production process makes the process results affect each other the number of defects in the next process. The results of observations show that of the 3 main processes of folding cardboard packaging production at PT.X, the aim of printing and ponding has the highest defect percentage of 47% and 44% of the total defect, while the glueing  process has the lowest percentage of 7% with a total total defect of 827,347 packages of a total production of 4,735,350. From the results of data recapitulation and calculation of the number of defects, it can be seen that the sigma value of the company with the sample production data taken has an average sigma of 3.6. Through the application of the Six Sigma DMAIC method this research seeks to provide solutions in overcoming the problems of defective products that occur during the production process so that the main purpose of the printing industri in increasing productivity can be achieved.

Abstract

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in the Indonesian economy, especially in creating jobs and driving local economic growth. However, many MSMEs, including peyek producers, face difficulties to become more competitive in an increasingly competitive market. One of them is Peyek Bude Asih MSMEs that produce delicious and savory products and are favored by many customers, but still use simple and unrepresentative packaging. Non-optimal packaging is an obstacle for MSMEs to market their products to more people and increase their selling value. Based on this Community Service Activity includes exposure to packaging developments and trends, handover of equipment and packaging to Bude Asih MSMEs, as well as clinical coaching sessions to ten MSMEs. In packaging development, the method used in this research is the Kansei engineering method which can translate consumer expectations of products into packaging design concepts. The results of the questionnaire are processed into PCA input data using Kansei Engineering-based software, the methods used include collecting packaging samples, identifying kansei words, processing data with R software, and determining the selected packaging design concept.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in the Indonesian economy, contributing more than 60.5% to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022. However, MSMEs face significant challenges in the digital era, especially in adapting technology to achieve sustainability and efficiency. The use of technology in the production and packaging process is key for MSMEs to expand market access, reduce production costs, and offer competitive prices. In order to improve the competitiveness of MSMEs in Pasar Kemis District, Tangerang Regency, MSMEs Anugerah Bosstea Mandiri, BAJARA Jus, and Dimsum Dapur Mama Nove participated in a community service program aimed at improving understanding of effective packaging strategies. This program involves the use of automatic sticker cutting tools and vacuum sealers, designed by the Packaging Printing Industry Technology (TICK) Study Program, to address label design and product durability issues. This activity also includes comprehensive training on food preservation, packaging regulations, and the use of food additives, with a focus on realizing sustainable and competitive MSMEs in the modern market. The results are expected to improve the quality and competitiveness of MSME products in an increasingly competitive market.

Abstract

Kemasan menjadi faktor penting dalam meningkatkan nilai jual produk, selain itu kemasan berfungsi untuk melindungi produk, media promosi, menjadi identitas suatu produk, memperpanjang umur simpan produk, memudahkan dalam pendistribusian dan pemasaran produk, serta memenuhi kebutuhan dan kepuasan konsumen. Kota Serang merupakan salah satu target tempat wisata yang banyak dikunjungi wisatawan saat liburan. Hal ini menunjang perkembangan kuliner dan produk olahan hasil UKM di kota Serang untuk dijadikan produk oleh-oleh. Secara geografis, kota serang berada tidak jauh dari pesisir pantai utara sehingga banyak sumber daya hasil perikanan dan kelautan. Salah satu produk olahan hasil perikanan yang belum dikemas secara menarik adalah bakso goreng (makanan ringan yang berbahan dasar dari ikan). Bakso goreng sudah cukup dikenal oleh warga Serang, sebagai cemilan khas kota Serang. Namun aplikasi kemasan yang masih sangat minimalis menyebabkan produk ini tidak begitu dikenal oleh masyarakat luar daerah. Berdasarkan permasalahan kemasan tersebut, maka diperlukan suatu pengembangan alat kemasan efesien yang dapat diaplikasikan sehingga membantu UKM di daerah Serang untuk membuat kemasan secara mandiri. Program kerjanya mencakup perancangan dan pembuatan mesin produksi cetak alat cutting hand press dan, pelatihan serta pendampingan dalam penggunaan alat tersebut. Dengan adasnya alat cutting hand press sebagai mesin produksi cetak kemasan sekunder ini bisa membantu UKM Bakso Ikan Laksana meningkatkan kualitas dan nilai jual dari bakso goreng tersebut. Metode untuk melakukan program IPTEK bagi masyarakat ini adalah : tahap persiapan dengan melakukan survei ke daerah Serang dan membuat kerjasama  dengan UKM setempat, tahap selanjutnya adalah merancang dan membuat alat cutting handpress sebagai mesin penunjang produksi kemasan yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan UKM dan ketersediaan bahan habis pakai yang bisa dibeli di kota Serang tersebut, setelah itu melakukan pendampingan pengoperasian alat cutting kemasan tersebut hingga UKM bisa melakukannya secara mandiri. Setelah dilakukan pelatihan dan pendampingan dalam pembuatan kemasan, UKM bakso Laksana, telah memiliki dan mampu membuat kemasan secara mandiri.

Abstract

One of the potential products of the Pulau Seribu as a marine destination in the north of Jakarta is its seaweed products, with the best quality and the mainstay of seaweed exports in Indonesia. Basically, not a few of the MSMEs in the Pulau Seribu already have production permits, business permits, and market seaweed products, but there are still some who experience problems in using their product packaging. As a result, the product is more difficult to market and has a low selling value. To overcome the problems faced by MSMEs, the Technology Industry of Prining Packaging Department (TICK) in collaboration with partners (Pondok Cafe and Karang Taruna) carries out community service activities with the aim of: making packaging based on products, materials, designs, and packaging forms that are efficient and can be applied. by MSMEs. The science and technology program for the community is in the form of helping MSMEs in the Pulau Seribu through partners and youth organizations in the Pulau Pramuka area to make packaging independently. The method for conducting this science and technology program for the community is: through training and mentoring. Among the stages are conducting a preliminary survey of partners (MSMEs), designing packaging designs, making packaging according to the needs of MSMEs and training and assistance in packaging production. The output of this activity is the availability of primary packaging for candies’s seaweed products, driving the community's economy and increasing sales of partner products.

Abstract

One of the problems often faced by SME entrepreneurs is the lack of knowledge about the right type of material to use according to the product they have and the design and composition of labels according to applicable regulations. Packaging designs and labels become icons that can make these products competitive and attract more consumers. So that the main goal of SME entrepreneurs is achieved, namely increasing turnover. Among them, P-IRT/MD permits, halal certificates, product composition, serving sizes, serving suggestions, and storage suggestions, so that consumer safety in consuming these products can run well. Dapoer Ikan partners Umi Ali and Rendang Bu Guru are SMEs that do not yet have a P-IRT permit and labels that do not comply with food packaging regulations. The knowledge that is still minimal about this is the background for the TICK Study Program to carry out community-based science and technology services regarding improving the quality of packaging for the UKM Dapoer Ikan Umi Ali and Rendang Bu Guru through socialization and training. The implementation of the service is carried out through offline educational seminars and training regarding 1) Packaging design for SMEs that sell; 2) Appropriate material selection and 3) Appropriate SME packaging regulations. This activity aims to make partners able to compete better by having packaging that is in accordance with regulations and attractive label designs and the TICK Study Program can apply their knowledge to Dapoer Ikan Partners Umi Ali and Rendang Bu Guru. The results of the evaluation of participants' activities became more knowledgeable about the world of packaging and all participants agreed to hold seminars and training activities like this on a regular and continuous basis so that packaging, product quality, and product sales turnover increased.   Salah satu diantara permasalahan yang sering dihadapi oleh pengusaha UKM adalah keterbatasan ilmu mengenai jenis material yang tepat digunakan sesuai produk yang dimiliki serta desain dan komposisi label sesuai regulasi yang berlaku. Desain dan label kemasan menjadi ikon yang dapat menjadikan produk tersebut memiliki daya saing dan lebih menarik minat konsumen. Sehingga tujuan utama dari pengusaha UKM tercapai yaitu omzet meningkat. Diantaranya, izin P-IRT/MD, Serifikat halal, komposisi dari produk, takaran saji, saran penyajian, hingga saran penyimpanan, agar keamanan konsumen dalam mengkonsumsi produk tersebut dapat berjalan dengan baik. Mitra Dapoer Ikan Umi Ali dan Rendang Bu Guru merupakan UKM yang belum memiliki izin P-IRT dan label yang belum sesuai dengan regulasi kemasan pangan. Pengetahuan yang masih minim mengenai hal ini, menjadi latar belakang Prodi TICK melaksanakan pengabdian IPTEK berbasis Masyarakat mengenai peningkatan kualitas kemasan UKM Dapoer Ikan Umi Ali dan Rendang Bu Guru melalui sosialisasi dan pelatihan. Pelaksanaan pengabdian dilakukan melalui seminar edukasi dan pelatihan secara offline mengenai 1) Desain kemasan UKM yang menjual; 2) Pemilihan material yang tepat dan 3) Regulasi kemasan UKM yang sesuai. Kegiatan ini bertujuan agar mitra mampu bersaing lebih baik dengan memiliki kemasan yang sesuai dengan regulasi dan desain label yang menarik dan Prodi TICK dapat mengaplikasikan ilmu yang dimiliki kepada Mitra Dapoer Ikan Umi Ali dan Rendang Bu Guru. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan peserta menjadi bertambah wawasan mengenai dunia kemasan dan semua peserta setuju diadakan kegiatan seminar dan pelatihan seperti ini secara berkala dan berkesinambungan agar kemasan, kualitas produk dan omzet penjualan produk meningkat.

Abstract

The Uzlifatil Jannah Islamic Boarding School Cooperative was founded to provide practical learning experiences for students in terms of business management and business development. However, the cooperative business does not yet have an identity (branding) on its shopping bag packaging and does not have the knowledge and skills to produce bag packaging. This service activity aims to share knowledge and skills in the production of bag packaging (totebags) so that it becomes an effective branding medium for Islamic boarding school cooperatives. The methods used are observation and interviews, material lectures, and training. Participants in this activity are students and Islamic boarding school managers. Material and training (practice) were in accordance with participants' needs to increase knowledge and skills in the tote bag production process. The implementation of this service activity has succeeded in becoming an inspiration for the Islamic Boarding School to continue developing its cooperative business.

Abstract

Flexible packaging product X manufactured by PT XYZ—a flexible packaging company employing rotogravure printing technologym recorded a defect rate of 4.57% during the production period from September to November 2023, exceeding the company’s tolerance limit of 4%. This study aims to identify the dominant defect types, analyze their root causes, and formulate improvement recommendations using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) approach. The method evaluates potential risks through the parameters of Severity, Occurrence, and Detection, and determines the Risk Priority Number (RPN) as the basis for prioritizing corrective actions.The Pareto analysis revealed three dominant defect types: missprint (37%), blocking (24.9%), and blushing (20.3%). The highest RPN value was found in missprint (810), attributed to uneven film surface (film flatness), followed by blocking (648) due to improper film tension, and blushing (648) resulting from excessive ink viscosity. Based on these findings, technical improvement proposals were developed, including tighter raw material quality control, adjustment of drying temperature and film tension parameters, and stricter ink viscosity inspection procedures.The novelty of this research lies in the integration of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and FMEA in analyzing defect risks in the rotogravure printing process. This integration enables the formulation of data-driven and process-parameter-oriented improvement recommendations, bridging the gap between qualitative risk assessment and practical quality control implementation in the flexible packaging industry. The proposed improvements are expected to minimize process variation, reduce defect recurrence, and enhance the overall capability of the rotogravure printing process at PT XYZ.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the competitiveness of both MSMEs in the global market through the implementation of packaging redesign and increased knowledge through training. The implementation methods include the implementation of design results obtained from research and assistance through training. The packaging redesign process was developed using the Kansei Engineering method to translate consumer perceptions into effective design elements, involving respondents and expert panelists. The training material covers the strategic functions of packaging design, material selection, and sales strategies. The main outcome of this program is functional, attractive, and optimally protective printed packaging products, which directly address the issue of damage and increase sales value. The community service program for tempeh chip MSMEs in Kebayoran Baru has successfully increased understanding of packaging design. This is evident from the increase in participants' knowledge scores from an average of 4.1 (initial test) to above 4.7 (final test). The success of this outreach and practice program provides a strong foundation, where the application of new packaging design results is expected to effectively increase the competitiveness of MSME products.

Abstract

This study employs the Rough Set method based on Kansei Engineering to analyze the packaging design elements of fish fried meatballs. The purpose of this study is to identify design elements that align with consumer preferences. The method involved collecting consumer preference data through Kansei Engineering and processing it using Rough Set analysis. The results recommended a packaging design with the highest Laplace value of 0.7500 and a support size of 2. The recommended packaging includes multilayer material, standing pouch type, sealing closure system, additional features such as ziplock and hanging hole, modern design style, sans-serif typography, design elements featuring images and illustrations, a fun color scheme, medium size, and direct print on the material surface. This study demonstrates that Kansei Engineering can produce packaging designs that match consumer preferences through quantitative data analysis.
