Abstract

The amount of agricultural lands has been converted into residential land and industrial land since a lot of farmland in the mountains has been opened. Groundwater and river has been used to irrigate the agricultural lands. Farmers in the mountainous areas typically use his physical effort to get water from river to agricultural land. This causes inefficiency of working for farmers thus the agricultural productivity is not optimal. Owing the fact that agricultural land is far from the electricity resources (PLN) therefore a small capital farmer must use pump to irrigate their agricultural lands. Hence, farmers have to spend big amount of money to buy fuel to drive the agricultural pump engine. Thus, it is necessary to have a specific research on the availability of wind energy in order to mobilize the agricultural pump engine in the mountainous area. In this case, the authors have calculated and analyzed the potential of wind energy to drive the pump in the village of Sare, Aceh Besar. From the analysis it has been obtained that the average wind speed of 6,41 m/s with the diameter of rotor turbine about 3 meter result in 1005,26 watt of wind turbine power. This power can be used to power a 20 m head static pump, requiring 650 watt to provide irrigation for 19 hectare of agricultural land 7 hrs/day. HOMER and Epanet 2.2 software are used to conduct simulation for power system generation. The result of HOMER simulation shows the lowest NPC value of US$ 10.028 with the cost of energy (CoE) of USD 0.717 kWh. The system could produce electricity power in a year of 3.452 kWh and the working length of the generating power system is 15 years

Abstract

Fisheries as one of the pillars of the local economy in Aceh Province that had been optimally utilized. Catches especially during the harvest tends to be sold by the fishermen to other areas due to lack of knowledge of post-harvest handling. One of the post-harvest processing is the preservation of a cooling system is usually done with the use of cold storage box (cold box) at the Fish Landing Places (TPI). This study aims to get the length of storage time of fish that can maintain a temperature of 0°C to 5°C, by using the 3 kinds of cold storage box is made of wood material, fiber and styrofoam. From the results of testing two methods: the method of fish in the middle of the ice around it and the traditional methods used by the community found that containers with wood coated styrofoam insulation to maintain temperature of 2°C, while the  isolation box storage timber, fiber and styrofoam fish temperature exceeds 2.5°C. Wooden storage box covered with styrofoam has the most room temperature lower than the usualbox used by the community. This box is the ideal storage box, the construction is very simple.  The box is fully insulated by wood and styrofoam.

Abstract

The function of solar collector is to increase the air that consist of absorber, air duct and glass cover. One of the factors that affect the collector output temperature increased is depend on high temperature absorber. An absorber serves to absorb heat from the sun, and heats flowing air in the air duct above the absorber. The heating of the air pass/route is greatly influenced by the flow patterns inside the collector. In this study the authors examined the use of variations absorber on solar collector. There were four variations of The absorber; iron sand, gram iron sand, asphalt hotmix, and iron sand asphalt. The research method is intended to determine the value of heat transfer by radiation, conduction and convection. Dimension of solar collector was used 300 cm x 80 cm. The best variation of absorber was gram iron sand type at the most optimum intensity of sun at 12 a.m-2 p.m.

Abstract

Solar power generation is a power plant that utilizes solar energy as a source of electrical energy. Electrical energy in Sabang Weh Island is currently supplied by the power plant so it needs alternative energy to increase the electricity supply. The data taken in the form of sunlight intensity, voltage and current values generated from solar panels. Three points of data collection are: Banda Aceh, Kilometers zero Sabang and BMKG data Sabang Weh Island. The highest light intensity obtained on Sabang Weh Island for 853.20 watts / m2, the highest current of 4.32 Amper and a voltage value of 17, 20 Volt

Abstract

This research aims to produce an effective heat sink with thermoelectric which is a semi conductor devices having several pairs of type P (positive) and N (negative) S content. Type P has a lower energy level while type N had a higher energy level. This tool, equipped with a heat sink as the heater, is mounted on a chamber to create a heat exchanger for a portable cooler box. Three types of thermoelectric modules were used with different fin types to find out the their effects on the temperature, T, and the rate of heat transfer, Q, inside the cooler box. The results shows that with the blood volume of 250 cc, the blood temperature can be decreased from 29 oC to 5.8 oC within 145 minutes. The ideal temperature for the blood storage ranges from 1 oC to 6 oC. Among the three types of fins that were tested, the most effective heat transfer was given by fin type no. 3, the cylindrical-shaped fins. The heat transfer obtained is 12.83 W/m2 oC. The lowest heat transfer was given by fin type no. 2, which is a slot type, with heat transfer rate of 3.85 W/m2 oC.

Abstract

Domestic liquid waste from residential areas of PT Arun NGL processed in Waste Water Treatment Plant. So far WWTP # 48 worked pretty well. Problems that occur in the operation of WWTP # 48 is associated with cleaner production principles are: Inefficiency of use of water; The need for clean water for residential and office buildings in the PT Arun NGL is relatively large average 700 L/capita/day, use large quantities of water have an impact on increasing the volume of domestic waste water to be generated and processed at the waste processing unit. On the other hand there has been no attempt to use effluent water WWTP # 48 whose quality is relatively good and relatively large number is 2275 m3/day. This study aimed to analyze the results of energy conservation has been done on the wastewater treatment unit at PT. Arun. To identify inefficient use of water, electricity and chlorine using gap analysis.The data observed in the field compared to the ideal condition that refers to good governance(Good Housekeeping), and then determined how much deviation. The amount of savings opportunities gained from the implementation of cleaner production in the operation of WWTP # 48 is the supply cost savings of 38%.

Abstract

The result of this analysist of energy conservation activity exposes the performance generated by PT. Arun NGL in the fields of energy conservation and decrease of greenhouse emissions. The implementtion analysist activities assosieted with international initiatives in addressing climate change, and global warming as well as support the implementation of goverment programs of energy conservation programs and the reduction of greenhouse gas emmisions in the industrial sector. All the data presented in this report have been checked carefully, and all sizes are displayed also was referring to an internationally recognized measurement technique in the industry. Thus, the accurancy of the data included in this report both with regards the level of error is small. In addition, all the data loaded can be trusted because it is supported by the documents that existand can be verified by the stakeholders who want to do this. Based on the result of the assessment, energy saving opportunities and reduction of exhaust gas emmisions are available by empowering, improvise and optimize prodution units. Implementation efforts on energy conservation and the utilization of  resources has been implementaed since 1997, which was market by the implementation of the project Marine Boil off Gas (MaBOG) take back the exhaust gas at the time of shipment of LNG (800-1,000 M3 LNG). Marine Boil off Gas has recover 1000 m3 of LNG per shipment in 2003, in installation of heat reovery unit 10 steam  generator, which utilizes the thermal energy of the stack gas turbines to generate steam, and turn off or not utilize all the conventional boilers.

Abstract

Aceh is one of the biggest milkfish (chanos-chanos Forsskal)-producing provinces in Indonesia and the production is increasing year by year. However, beyond that prospect, there are disadvantages of the milkfish which are able to be putrid easily and are not able to be kept for a long time. In addition, at the time of great harvest and the fish production is plenitude and less of the fish is in use that the price of the fish decreases sharply. The population of Aceh generally like to consume fresh and dried milkfish especially the people in the rural and highland. Based on the result of the previous research, the drying method which is done by putting the fish under direct sunlight is inefective as the sunlight is not perpetually present as expected. Even the quality of the product is low as the fish is contaminated by flies. In addition it requires large drying areas to produce large quantity fish. In this research, it is conducted eksperimental analysis and drying characteristic of the milkfish in the drying process by using drying equipment with gas fuel. The drying equipment used is the shelf type which is located in Thermal Engineering Laboratory, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. The equipment consists of burning room, drying room and chimney. The weight of  milkfish model is 200 grams, 250 grams, and 300 grams. Based on the test result on the milkfish weighted 200 grams after the drying process, it can be seen that the content of protein 18,97 %,fat 3,75%, water 19,20% with the total drying process of six hour.

Abstract

Nugget is one of food ready to served which raw material was a chicken meat. The aimed this research is to get a limited or how long time to save nugget that defended the temperature 0oC, with need time 2 – 4 days only,which made from a wood and styrofoam. From the result of research that the wood box able to defended the temperature in 0oC at the fiftieht hours,styrofoam box at sixty fourth hours and mixture box in seventy one hours. The temperature on nugget (T1) wood box from the first hour until thirty ninth hours experienced rise of temperature lower than mixture box and styrofoam. The temperature on the box (T2)   wood box from the first hours  until fourty sixth huors experienced rise of the temperature lower than mixture box and styrofoam box.

Abstract

Using the thermal machines in the production process or overdone heat power operation require unit of Heat Exchanger (HE) having high level heat transfer coefficient (hc) for transferring to the thermal reservoir. Experimental studies have been done for heat transfer characteristics of forced convection on the round duct with method use that compare three of heat exchanger with a variety of pipe bends and a long pass after a turn that is different.  HE pipes have length of tube 500 mm with a 12 bends, HE pipes length of tube 250 mm with 24 bends and HE pipes length of tube 125 mm with 48 bends. The heat fluid flowed into the tube, and the tube is immersed in the cold water tank. For each of test equipments can be done three times experiment with different variations in inlet temperature that is at 600C, 700C and 800C, with a duration of 5 minute intervals for 50 minutes. Many pipe bends and short passes after a HE will increase turbulence flow pattern. The high of turbulence will increase the value of heat transfer coefficient, but it can hold on fluid flow rate.
