Abstract

Workplace noise is one of the physical factors that is often overlooked, although long-term exposure can have serious impacts on cardiovascular health. In workers exposed to noise, blood pressure and heart rate often increase as the body's response to physical stress. This physiological mechanism triggered by prolonged noise can result in an increased risk of cardiovascular disorders, including hypertension and heart rhythm disorders. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of noise on increasing blood pressure and heart rate in workers in the workshop area, especially the dynotest room. This type of research is observational with a cross-sectional research design. Conducted in December - May 2024 with the object of research on workers exposed to noise in the workshop area, especially the dynotest room. Data were analyzed using the Logistic Regression test. The total sample was 40 workers in the workshop area and dynotest room. Data were collected from observations, room noise measurements, blood pressure, and heart rate. Based on the results of the study, the average results for the dynotest area were 83.5 dBA, while for the dynotest room, the average results were 117.8 dBA. The results of statistical tests of blood pressure and pulse rate in workers obtained a sig value = 0.001. These results indicate an increase in blood pressure and pulse rate due to noise. Abstract

Religious tourism is one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors in Indonesia. However, the increasing number of visitors each year, combined with inadequate maintenance of sanitation facilities at religious sites, may elevate the risk of disease transmission. This study aimed to evaluate the condition of sanitation facilities at the Syaikhona Kholil Religious Tourism Site in Bangkalan. A descriptive survey design was employed to assess several key sanitation indicators, including the provision of clean water, wastewater disposal, waste management, toilet facilities, healthcare facilities, fire extinguishing equipment, and educational signage. The findings indicated that the overall sanitation facility score was categorized as "moderate" (63%). Specifically, waste management (75%) and toilet facilities (77%) were rated as moderate, while healthcare facilities (20%) and fire extinguishers (20%) were deemed inadequate. Educational signage achieved a moderate score (50%). The study concludes that several sanitation components at the site fail to meet required standards. Improvements in facility maintenance, waste management, healthcare provision, fire safety measures, and public health education are recommended to enhance sanitation standards, promote visitor safety, and reduce the risk of disease transmission.

Abstract

The noise intensity in the workshop area, specifically in the dynotest room at PT. X, records an average of 103 dB(A). This noise originates from assembly, maintenance, and equipment testing activities. The high noise levels and sustained intensity can significantly increase blood pressure and pulse rates in workers who do not use hearing protection devices (HPDs) while working. This study aims to evaluate the impact of noise on the blood pressure and pulse rates of workers in the workshop area, particularly in the dynotest room at PT. X. The research, which employed an observational approach with a cross-sectional study design, was conducted from December to May 2024, involving 40 workers exposed to noise in the dynotest room at PT. X. Data collected included noise measurements, blood pressure, and pulse rates, which were then analyzed using logistic regression tests. The results showed that the average noise level in the dynotest room was 83.5 dBA, while the peak noise level reached 117.8 dBA. Statistical analysis indicated a significant value (p = 0.001) for the relationship between noise exposure and the blood pressure and pulse rates of workers at PT. X, suggesting a significant increase in these parameters due to noise exposure. Recommendations were made for the company to monitor the health of workers to identify potential health issues arising from noise exposure.

Abstract

Purabaya Terminal is characterized by high vehicle density, making it a potential source of air pollution, particularly from fossil fuel-powered vehicles, such as diesel, which emit sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas. Exposure to SO2 poses health risks to traders nearby, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, watery eyes, and dizziness. This study aimed to analyze the health risk levels associated with SO₂ exposure to traders at Purabaya Terminal. The research utilized an Environmental Health Risk Analysis (EHRA) approach with a quantitative descriptive design and a cross-sectional method. A sample of 32 traders was selected using purposive sampling techniques. Air sampling was conducted at four locations within the terminal, and data analysis assessed exposure levels and potential health risks to traders. The average SO2 concentration was found to be 0.018 mg/m3, which is below the threshold limit set in the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 5 of 2018. The average air temperature was 29.9 oC, with humidity at 78.7% and wind speed at 1.14 m/s from the west. Intake exposure values ranged from 0.0007 to 0.0033 mg/kg/day, while the reference dose (RfC) was 0.026 mg/kg/day. Risk characterization calculations (RQ) indicated that all respondents had RQ values ≤ 1. The study concludes that SO2 exposure levels for traders remain within acceptable health risk range and do not pose a non-carcinogenic health risk. However, it is recommended that traders use personal protective equipment such as masks and that terminal management conducts regular air quality monitoring.

Abstract

Noise in classrooms can disrupt communication between teachers and students, potentially affecting learning outcomes. Previous research indicates that noise exceeding environmental health standards may contribute to communication difficulties during lessons. This study aimed to analyze the effect of classroom noise and communication disruptions on students’ learning achievement. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 4th and 6th grade students at one of the elementary schools in South Surabaya. Noise levels were measured in the classrooms, and students were assessed for communication disruptions and learning achievement. Logistic regression was used for data analysis. All classrooms exceeded the environmental health noise threshold of 55 dB(A), with an average level of 67.45 dB(A). Noise was significantly associated with communication disruptions (OR = 5.118; p = 0.012). Classroom noise increased the risk of communication disruptions but did not directly affect students’ learning achievement. It is recommended to install soundproof partitions and double-glazed windows to reduce noise. Future studies should investigate the interaction between teaching methods and student achievement.

Abstract

Sawahan Village, Watulimo Subdistrict, Trenggalek Regency, is renowned as a durian forest tourism area. However, residents living near the river basin often complain about the odor due to the frequent presence of garbage along the river. The methods employed include introducing a chlorine diffuser device, supporting the development of the tourism village, promoting self-sufficiency, providing education on waste management through the Takakura method, and establishing a Waste Bank, healthy settlements, and a Clean and Healthy Behavior (CHB) program through Family Action Plans (FAP). The results of the community service in 2022 showed that the physical and chemical parameters of water in Sawahan Village met the required standards. However, the total coliform microbiological parameter at the source did not meet the standards as it exceeded 65 CFU/100 ml, and the Escherichia coli parameter at the source was 3 CFU/100 ml. Therefore, in the 2023 community service project, an Appropriate Technology (AT) called the chlorine diffuser. Assistance was provided for the operation and maintenance of the Clean Water Facility (CWF) by teaching the use of calcium hypochlorite through a chlorine diffuser. Through educational activities, the highest increase in knowledge among the community was related to waste sorting through the Waste Bank, with 10 individuals (20%) initially understanding waste separation, which then increased to 48 individuals (96%). The greatest improvement in community behavior regarding CHB in the FAP was observed in handwashing facilities, with 18 individuals (36%) having access to proper handwashing facilities far from pollutants, which later increased to 50 individuals (100%).
