Abstract

The emergence of The Internet as a new communication medium has been associated with conflicting claims about the rise of new pattern of social interaction. The idea of virtual communities advanced by the pioneers of social interaction on the Internet. High Internet usage can eventually lead to new social problems, the example problem is excessive use of electronic communication to personal that is reducing the forms of interaction between personal communication, even very unusual we find out personal information to someone published in general use social media status even tough that is very personal problems. Conclusion from the research are: First, the use of Internet-based media in excess will cause a lot of problems ranging from addiction, behavioral changes to crimes cyber world. Second, the Internet culture developed at this time because there is a synergy created from four cultures in it, namely, Technocratic, Hacker, Virtual Communitarians, and Entrepreneurial. Third, Media Education or training in using the media becomes very important to foster media literacy.

Abstract

This study raises the marketing communication strategy carried out by the Demandailing management in building the Demandailing Cafe brand image. This study describes the digital marketing strategy carried out by Demandailing Café in building a brand image on Instagram social media to the public, especially Demandailing Cafe consumers located in Surabaya. The benefits obtained from this research are as an academic reference on digital marketing in building a practical brand image on Instagram social media. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with an analysis of Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) and digital marketing. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies. This study concludes that in carrying out the Demandailing digital marketing strategy to build a brand image on Instagram social media, it is determined by how the products offered are highlighted in terms of the promotional content of the Demandailing Café product itself. Submission of the brand image itself indirectly becomes an interpersonal communication from Demandailing with customers who see Instagram. Demandailing always makes innovations in building a brand image that is not done by other cafe entrepreneurs, both in terms of soft selling and hard selling.

Abstract

This research analyses and describes in detail how the digital biennale activities that are a part of the Indonesian Digital art community has become a form of criticism and silent resistance to the social hegemony. It refers to the ideology, norms, rules, and myths that exist in modern society in Indonesia, especially the reproduction of hoax content. Hoax refers to the logic people who live in a world of cyber media with all of its social implications. This phenomenon is a problem, and it is at the heart of the exploration of the art community in East Java Biennale. The critical social theory perspective of Gramsci’s theory forms the basis of this research analysis. The qualitative research approach used a digital ethnomethodology research method focused on the online and offline social movements in the Biennale Art Community. The data collection techniques used were observation and non-active participation in the process of reproduction-related to the exhibition of Indonesian Biennale digital artworks. It was then analyzed using Gramsci’s hegemony theory. The purpose of this study was to describe the process of social movements in a digital format conducted by the Indonesian Biennale when reproducing works of art to counteract the dominance and hegemony of the Hoax phenomenon in Indonesia. The benefit of this research was that it obtained a preposition of Gramsci’s hegemony theory in the world of digital art as created by contemporary Indonesian Biennale artists. Digital technology has had a tremendous effect on the media industry, government, trade, informal industry sector, human resources, urban planning, services, disaster relief, health, education, religion, artistic and cultural expression, in addition to various other fields. The conclusion obtained from this research is that there is a formation of a new hegemony, a digital hegemony. This new hegemony is of particular concern for the digital artists in East Java Biennale. Through the digital format works, the artists also try to communicate their art as a form of silent resistance, protest, and criticism of the hegemony that occurs in society, referring to the ideology, norms, and myths. It can be called a digital counter-hegemony.s

Abstract

AbstrakArtikel ini mengeksplorasi secara terperinci bagaimana studi etnografi digunakan sebagai metode penelitian untuk media dan penelitian komunikasi dalam masyarakat informasi di era digital. Artikel ini menjelaskan tentang sebuah metode riset yaitu digital etnometodologi, sebuah metode yang menganalisis dan menggambarkan data observasi dari hasil penelitian etnografi pada komunitas seni digital. Peneliti etnografi yang berpartisipasi tidak aktif dalam masyarakat informasi sebagai subyek penelitiannya. Pendekatan etnografi bertujuan untuk menghasilkan keragaman dan kompleksitas budaya. Penjelasan deskriptif berupa kegiatan dan interaksi sosial budaya yang terjadi dalam masyarakat informasi ini dapat ditampilkan secara rinci menggunakan metode etnografi. Artikel ini menggunakan pendekatan studi kualitatif deskriptif dengan studi literatur dan studi kasus penelitian aktivitas digital di komunitas seniman digital Indonesia. Hasilnya adalah metode etnografi cenderung mengarah pada studi yang tenang tentang kehidupan sehari-hari anggota masyarakat atau kelompok sosial (komunitas). Metode etnografi digital atau dapat disebut Digital Ethnomethodology menggambarkan pendekatan untuk melakukan studi etnografi di dunia kontemporer. Metode ini mengajak para peneliti untuk mempertimbangkan bagaimana hidup dan meneliti dalam lingkungan digital, materi, dan sensorik. Digital Ethnomethodology juga mengeksplorasi konsekuensi dari keberadaan media digital dalam membentuk teknik dan proses di mana para peneliti melakukan studi etnografi. Metode ini mempelajari dan mengeksplorasi masyarakat informasi di dimensi dunianya kemudian secara metodologis diceritakan kembali melalui laporan penelitian atau penelitian akademis teoretis.Digital Ethnomethodology: Media Culture Studies Of The Information Society In The Digital Age AbstractThis article explores in detail how ethnographic studies use as research methods of the Information Society in the digital age. Explains the method of analyzing and describing observation data generated and the researcher becomes inactive participation in the information society. Research methods that use an ethnographic approach have the aim to produce diversity and complexity of culture. The description of activities and social interactions that occur in this information society can be shown in detail using ethnographic methods. This article method is a descriptive qualitative study approach with literature study and case studies of digital activity in the Indonesian digital artist community. The results are the ethnographic method tends to lead to the quiet study of the daily lives of community members or social groups (communities). Digital Ethnomethodology describes approaches to conducting ethnographic studies in the contemporary world. This method invites researchers to consider how to live and research in a digital, material and sensory environment also explores the consequences of the presence of digital media in shaping the techniques and processes in which researchers conduct ethnographic studies. This Method by studying and exploring the information society in its world is dimensionally then academically methodologically retold through theoretical academic research.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis praktik seni melalui karya seni rupa digital yang dilakukan oleh seniman digital yang tergabung pada komunitas seni Biennale Jatim. Karya seni yang dianalisis ini untuk melihat secara mendalam dan eksploratif bagaimana ekspresi perlawanan dominasi dan hegemoni budaya, dominasi mitos yang melembaga pada masyarakat. Dengan pendekatan studi kualitatif melalui metode etnografi digital, peneliti melakukan eksplorasi secara medalam dengan observasi partisipasi proses penciptaan karya dan instalasi karya seni pada pameran Biennale Jatim 7. Dua karya seni yang dianalisis pada penelitian ini menunjukkan sebuah temuan penelitian yaitu gambaran nyata tentang perlawanan atas hegemoni (counter hegemony) lewat karya-karya seni. Perlawanan terhadap kondisi sosial masyarakat dan perlawanan terhadap budaya dan mitos pada masyarakat. Para seniman muda yang tergabung di komunitas seni digital Biennale Jawa Timur ini mengganggap praktik seni pada budaya Barat telah melakukan alienisasi terhadap masyarakat di Indonesia terutama masyarakat seni. Sebagai dampaknya, masyarakat Indonesia yang memiliki kultur sosial sangat berbeda dengan Barat, menjadi kaum yang inferior.

Abstract

Biennale merupakan pameran dan diskusi karya seni yang rutin diadakan setiap dua tahun. Tahun 2019 merupakan kegiatan Biennale Jawa Timur (Jatim) ke-8 dengan tema “GAS TOK! Lebur Sakjeroning Jawa Timur” melibatkan 500 seniman dan 40 kurator, terdiri 65 kegiatan yang tersebar di 16 kota dan kabupaten di Jawa Timur. Berbeda dengan kegiatan Biennale Jatim sebelumnya, tahun ini lokasi pameran tersebar di berbagai daerah Jawa Timur. Seluruh arsip data dan dokumentasi rangkaian Biennale Jatim 8 dikumpulkan dan dipublikasikan melalui akun Instagram @jatimbiennale8 sebagai bentuk identitas gerakan komunitas Biennale Jawa Timur. Gelaran Biennale Jatim 8 merupakan sebuah perayaan dan imajinasi bersama yang bersifat inklusif. Penelitian ini mengangkat permasalahan tentang konstruksi identitas komunitas Biennale Jatim.  Metode analisa wacana digital dalam penelitian ini menganalisa kontruksi identitas yang diciptakan oleh Biennale Jatim 8 melalui media komunikasi digital media sosial Instagram. Akun Instagram @jatimbienale8 dan @biennalejatim menjadi obyek penelitan analisa wacana kontruksi identitas, dan praktik seni yang terjadi pada Biennale Jatim. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan sebuah wacana perubahan dan perlawanan terhadap kegiatan Biennale Jatim sebelumnnya. Perubahan ditunjukkan dari segi penyelanggara, pendanaan, format acara, lokasi berlangsungnya kegiatan, dan kerja kuratorial. Biennale Jatim 8 mendobrak dan melawan stigma tersebut. Diskursus kontruksi identitas baru tersebut ditunjukkan dengan jelas dan tegas pada proses produksi karya seni, pameran Biennale hingga pasca pameran melalui media sosial Instagram @biennalejatim8 yaitu identitas digital Biennale Jatim.     Biennale, an art event (visual) both exhibition and discussion of artworks, comes on regularly every two years. 2019 is the 8th East Java (Jatim) Biennale with the theme “GAS TOK! Lebur Sakjeroning Jawa Timur” involves 500 artists and 40 curators, consisting of 65 activities spread across 16 cities and regencies in East Java. Unlike the previous East Java Biennale, the exhibition locations are spreading across various regions of East Java. All data archives and documentation of the East Java 8 Biennale series are collected and published through the @jatimbiennale8 Instagram account as a form of identity for the East Java Biennale community movement. The 8th East Java Biennale is a celebration and shared inclusive imagination. This research raises the issue of the identity construction of the East Java Biennale community. The digital discourse analysis method in this study analyzes the identity construction created by the East Java 8th Biennale through the digital communication media of Instagram social media. Instagram accounts @jatimbienale8 and @biennalejatim became the object of research on the discourse analysis of identity construction and art practices at the East Java Biennale. The results of this study indicate a discourse of change and resistance to the previous East Java Biennale activities. The changes show organization, funding, event format, location of activities, and curatorial work. The 8th East Java Biennale breaks and fights the stigma. The discourse on constructing a new identity is clearly and unequivocally demonstrated in the art production process, the Biennale exhibition, and post-exhibition through social media Instagram @biennalejatim8, the digital identity of the East Java Biennale.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to find out how factual and digital reality are depicted in film.Castells’ theory on new media is taken for the base theory, subjectivity-identity and power and knowledge by Foucault. Narrative analysis by Lacey is applied to seek answer for the research problem. The advancement of Communication Technology has enabled human beings to have freedom in imagination and make it real. Digital technology and virtual realm are enriched with emerging faked realities and identities. Film, becomes a platform for practising this kind of freedom, making fantasy feels like reality. Film Ready Player One? directed by Steven Spielberg depicts real and virtual world. This study aims to elaborate how real life and digital life are narrated and described in this film. A new identity created in The OASIS,the digital world that a place where mankind escape from reality. Units to be analysed in eight structures of analysis are story, plot, and character. Concludesis factual reality and digital reality are described well in this film, it even tends to hyper-reality. Film ini menunjukkan kehidupan masyarakat moderen pada tahun 2045, dengan adanya perkembangan teknologi yang luar biasa. Suatu piranti yang mengubah manusia menjadi sangat tergantung dengan teknologi. Teknologi informasi dan komunikasi yang menciptakan dunia baru yaitu dunia digital. OASIS, dunia tempat pelarian manusia modern dan menciptakan identitas baru yaitu identitas virtual. Masyarakat informasi yang menciptakan realitas digital. Unit analisis story, plot, dan karakter dianalisis secara naratif dengan delapan struktur. Hasil analisis memberikan jawaban bahwa realitas nyata dan realitas digital digambarkan secara baik dalam film ini, bahkan cenderung berlebihan (hyper-reality). Selain itu, konflik di dunia digital di tahun 2045 tetap sama dengan konflik dalam sejarah manusia.Kata Kunci; Film; Digital Reality; Identitas; Naratif.

Abstract

AbstractThis study analyzes the process of acculturation of hybrid culture in the performing arts of Mount Bromo Jazz with the local culture of the Tengger tribe. The acculturation of hybrid culture as a global identity in increasing local tourism potential is the culture of the Tengger tribe, Bromo. By using a discourse analysis research methodology, researchers analyze and describe the dialectics to the discourse that occurs in the process of acculturation of hybrid culture at the Bromo mountain jazz performance. The development of Jazz music spread throughout the world, including in Indonesia. Jazz music is quite popular and is loved by many people, especially young people. At present, there are enough jazz shows that are often held in Indonesia. It is interesting to study and analyze that in this Bromo Jazz music performance the concept of performance and music is a combination of local culture and western culture. Performances by local Indonesian musicians together with global musicians around the world. Some new music works were created through a collaborative process between local musicians and foreign (global) musicians. The results of this study are the local culture of the Tengger tribe with global culture, namely the performance of jazz music into the potential of hybrid culture acculturation in the Sukapura Probolinggo East Java region. This study also illustrates how the process of creating a hybrid culture in Bromo Jazz music performance. The conclusions obtained from this study are the development of the hybrid music culture of Mount Bromo Jass as a potential world-class tourist destination.Keywords: Hybrid Culture, Bromo Mountain Jazz, Acculturation, IdentityAbstraksiPenelitian ini menganalisa proses akulturasi budaya hibrid pada seni pertunjukan Jazz Gunung Bromo dengan budaya lokal suku Tengger. Akulturasi budaya hybrid sebagai identitas global dalam meningkatkan potensi wisata lokal yaitu budaya suku Tengger, Bromo. Dengan menggunakan metodologi penelitian analisa wacana, peneliti menganalisa dan mendeskripsikan dialektika hingga diskursus yang terjadi dalam proses akulturasi budaya hybrid pada pagelaran musik jazz gunung Bromo. Perkembangan musik Jazz menjalar ke seluruh dunia, termasuk di Indonesia. Musik jazz tergolong musik yang cukup populer dan disenangi oleh banyak kalangan, terutama anak muda. Menarik dikaji dan dianalisa bahwa pada pagelaran musik Jazz Gunung Bromo ini konsep pertunjukan dan karya musiknya merupakan gabungan antara budaya lokal dan budaya barat. Pertunjukan para musisi lokal Indonesia bersama dengan para musisi global dunia. Beberapa karya musik baru diciptakan dengan proses kolaborasi bersama antara musisi lokal dengan musisi luar (global). Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah Budaya lokal suku Tengger dengan budaya global yaitu seni pertunjukan musik jazz menjadi potensi akulturasi budaya hybrid di kawasan Sukapura Probolinggo Jawa Timur. Penelitian ini juga menggambarkan bagaimana proses terciptanya budaya hybrid pada pagelaran music Jazz Gunung Bromo. Abstract

Dissemination of information related to the issues of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Instagram account @humasprovjatim is interesting to study because of understanding the meaning and motives behind educational messages conveyed through the Instagram account @humasprovjatim. It can form awareness regarding health protocols during the pandemic and post-COVID-19 pandemic to realize changes in attitudes, behavior, and healthy lifestyles that reduce the spread of COVID-19. This study aims to analyze educational messages aware of health protocols on the Instagram account of Public Relations (PR) of East Java Province (@humasprovjatim). This study used content analysis methods with Pentad’s Dramatic Analysis. The object studied was educational messages from the PR Instagram feed in March-December 2020. Result of this research is the dramatic rhetoric in the content of the Instagram feed by the PR of the province of East Java. The Instagram media is a rhetorical stage in conveying the message of community life in dealing with COVID-19. Conclusion of this research is that there is an important role for packaging content on their Instagram. The results of this study explain that the PR Instagram account is a stage where a "show" occurs which is considered capable of bridging the government to build educational messages regarding the health protocols presented in such a way to the public.

Abstract

The internet makes it easier for people to access information anytime and anywhere. Likewise with marketing trends, currently marketing has penetrated into digital marketing, where marketing can be done easily using social media or digital media. Through social media, business people can attract consumers with creative content. one of them is the beauty endorser or influencer method, these influencers create endorsement content for certain products to attract consumer buying interest. This study aims to see how the effect of endorsement of the Instagram account @tasyafarasya on interest in buying beauty products. This data collection technique is distributing questionnaires using google form to 100 respondents, namely followers and the method used is descriptive quantitative. The result of this study is that there is a significant effect of endorsement of the Instagram account @TasyaFarasya on the buying interest of followers, as evidenced by the linear regression results, the value of sig 0.00 < 0.05, which means that the variable X endorsement of the Instagram account @TasyaFarasya has a significant influence on the Y variable, the buying interest of followers. with a tendency of influence of 34.7%, both have a strong correlation of 0.645 and a coefficient of determination of 54.8%. These results mean that endorsements on Instagram play an important role in business through the communication process with followers or followers so that followers have an interest in buying beauty products.
