Abstract

This study examines the impact of rationality and experience on users' decision to reapply for a digital peer-to-peer (P2P) loan, with behavioral intention as an intermediary factor, in the context of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. As the popularity of digital lending platforms increases, understanding the behavioral factors behind loan reapplication decisions is crucial. This study uses quantitative methods with Structural Equation Models (SEM), with data collected from active P2P users who have previously reapplied for a loan. Findings show that both rationality and experience significantly affect behavioral intention rates, which in turn affect reapplication behavior. Behavioral intention plays a crucial mediating role, linking cognitive and experiential factors to the decision to reapply for a loan. These results highlight the importance of cognitive evaluation and experiential memory in shaping financial behavior in the digital context, providing insights for financial technology providers, regulators, and educators.

Abstract

Abstract

The increasing complexity of global social and environmental challenges has intensified the need for innovative models of social entrepreneurship that move beyond conventional profit-oriented and philanthropic approaches. Game-based systems have emerged as interactive digital mechanisms capable of fostering sustained engagement, behavioral change, and collective action, yet their strategic role in social entrepreneurship remains underexplored. This study aims to examine how game-based social entrepreneurship functions as a catalyst for sustainable impact by integrating interactive design with social value creation. A qualitative multiple-case research design was employed, involving eight social enterprises that systematically utilize game-based mechanisms to address social and environmental challenges. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and platform engagement metrics, and analyzed using thematic and comparative techniques. The results indicate that social enterprises embedding narrative-driven gameplay, cooperative mechanics, and mission-linked feedback systems achieve higher levels of sustained user engagement, mission alignment, and impact scalability. Game-based systems were found to operate as structural infrastructures rather than supplementary engagement tools. The study concludes that game-based social entrepreneurship represents a transformative model that bridges digital innovation and sustainability, enabling social enterprises to translate participatory play into durable social impact and long-term value creation.

Abstract

Abstract

The environmental “attitude-action gap” persists, as most “green apps” fail to motivate users or achieve long-term financial sustainability. This study aims to design, develop, and test a mobile game framework that bridges this gap by integrating behavioral psychology with a sustainable social entrepreneurship model. Design-Based Research (DBR) approach was used, culminating in a 6-week, mixed-methods pilot study (n=500). Data was collected via in-game analytics, pre/post-test surveys (Pro-Environmental Behavior Scale, PEBS; Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, IMI), and qualitative interviews. The intervention yielded strong engagement (28.1% Wk6 retention) and a statistically significant increase in self-reported Pro-Environmental Behaviors (PEBS) (p < .001, Cohen’s d = 0.82). High intrinsic motivation (4.4/5.0 IMI) was observed, with ‘Social Relatedness’ (? = .45) being the strongest predictor of retention. The B2C social enterprise model was validated., when co-designed as a social enterprise, is empirically validated as an effective and sustainable framework for motivating PEBs. The model successfully bridges the attitude-action gap by prioritizing social connection.

Abstract

The increasing complexity of social and environmental challenges has exposed the limitations of conventional, top-down innovation models in achieving sustainable societal change. Social innovation therefore requires participatory, adaptive, and engaging approaches capable of mobilizing collective creativity and long-term commitment. This study aims to examine how gamification can be strategically integrated into entrepreneurial design thinking to strengthen social innovation processes for sustainable societies. A qualitative and exploratory research design was employed, drawing on secondary data from peer-reviewed literature, policy reports, and documented social innovation initiatives that apply design thinking and gamified mechanisms. Data were analyzed through thematic interpretation to identify patterns of engagement, collaboration, and learning. The results indicate that gamification functions as a structural enabler rather than a superficial motivational tool, enhancing stakeholder engagement, sustaining participation, and supporting collaborative problem-solving throughout iterative design thinking stages. Gamified design thinking was found to foster experiential learning, shared ownership, and adaptability, which are critical for addressing complex sustainability challenges. The study concludes that effective social innovation depends not only on innovative solutions but also on well-designed participatory processes. Integrating gamification within entrepreneurial design thinking offers a promising framework for aligning innovation practices with sustainability goals across diverse social contexts and long-term societal impact.

Abstract

The growing demand for transparency and accountability in Islamic social finance has intensified attention on waqf management systems, which continue to face challenges related to governance inefficiencies, limited public trust, and restricted global participation. Rapid advancements in digital technology, particularly blockchain, offer new opportunities to address these issues through decentralized, secure, and verifiable systems. This study aims to examine the potential of blockchain technology in enhancing transparency and promoting global social inclusion within waqf management. A qualitative research design combining doctrinal analysis and comparative evaluation is employed, utilizing secondary data from regulatory documents, institutional reports, and blockchain-based case implementations. Data are analyzed through thematic coding and comparative matrices to identify patterns and assess the effectiveness of technological integration. The findings reveal that blockchain significantly improves transparency, accountability, and donor participation by enabling immutable record-keeping and real-time tracking of waqf assets. Evidence also indicates that digital accessibility facilitated by blockchain expands cross-border engagement, strengthening the inclusivity of waqf systems. The study concludes that integrating blockchain into waqf management provides a viable pathway for modernizing Islamic philanthropic institutions, ensuring sustainable governance while enhancing global social impact.

Abstract

Background. Geographically isolated communities face persistent structural constraints that limit access to resources, markets, and institutional support. However, these challenging conditions also act as a generative environment, fostering unique forms of innovation deeply embedded within local contexts. Purpose. This study aims to examine the development and sustainability of social entrepreneurship models under resource constraints. It specifically focuses on adaptive strategies, governance structures, and the processes of resource mobilization within these isolated settings. Method. The study employed a qualitative multiple-case study design, analyzing twelve social enterprises across the agriculture, education, and healthcare sectors. The research combined descriptive and inferential analysis to identify recurring patterns of innovation and organizational sustainability. Results. Findings indicate that innovation in these communities emerges through hybrid resource configurations, robust community engagement, and the integration of local knowledge systems. Furthermore, the evidence shows that participatory governance significantly strengthens organizational resilience, proving that constraints can drive sustainable entrepreneurial practices rather than just limiting them. Conclusion. The study concludes that social entrepreneurship in isolated areas requires a shift in innovation frameworks prioritizing relational dynamics, adaptability, and local agency over traditional metrics like scalability and resource abundance. These insights offer a foundation for designing development interventions that are contextually grounded and sensitive to local realities.
